  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 27 Subbed - Finalized

The One With the Grave Situation (Part 1)

Through an invite from Professor Daitokuji, Judai and the others head to ancient ruins for an extra-credit class.  There, they go on a trip to an ancient world, where they become suspected of graverobbing.  With Daitokuji and co. on the line, Judai begins a duel against the Gravekeeper Chief.  It’s a Game of Darkness, and Judai feels real pain out of it.  Gravekeeper Assassin and Gravekeeper Shaman are just some of what’s summoned from the Gravekeeper Deck, and the Field Magic “Ravine of the Royal Family - Necrovalley” also prevents interference with the Cemetery.

This took a little longer than I’d planned, lol.  But finally, it’s GX 27! This is a neat little episode that gives us some lore behind the Academia with the “kinda ruined” ruins, and it also becomes Judai’s second Duel of Darkness to set the stage for what’s to come in the next arc.  The world they’re sent to is also interesting, and I’d keep it in mind when we jump back into Season 3…

Part of what took so long with this one were the edits, which weren’t too difficult, but the main issue was squeezing them in with my work schedule; I tried to get many of them done during my hour lunch at work, lol.  There were about 8 edits altogether, 8 being card fixes; I’ll let you guess what one of the remaining two were.  List below the cut as usual, for the curious.

I also decided to use the textless version of the OP that was originally used on the actual episodes, now that it made its way onto the webs; it’s different from the version that was released textless previously/used for 4Kids’s openings, as it has the different sky, the pause with Manjoume before it zooms out to show Judai during the “Get on the deck!” parts (as opposed to just the slow zoom), and the different background during Asuka’s Cyber Angels bit and Judai with Sparkman and Bubbleman.  It also kept the original animation error with Water Dragon and the unused [unfortunately] Fire Dragon having red and blue behind them, respectively, so I snipped the fixed one from the “V2″ to include it.  I also fixed Burstlady at the end to fix her lack of a strap (for some reason they colored her shoulder the strap color…).  I’ll be going back to 1-26 to add this version, along with updating the EDs after 18 while I’m at it to fix a staff credit error I’ve been meaning to fix.

Enjoy! 28 should take less time, hopefully!

    EDITS/FIXES!

    1. One I did as I worked on 26 for the 27 preview; as Judai expresses his surprise at seeing Asuka with them as an Obelisk Blue, Judai’s eyes are miscolored to be Asuka’s eye color.  I recolored them in a few frames in Photoshop, then inserted them in Vegas to throw them into the video, panning the last frame to cover the rest of the shot.
    2. As Judai draws Bubbleman to start his first turn (as Winged Kuriboh shows up with him), the Bubbleman card is visible (as a blank Normal Monster), even though the way he’s holding it should make it so it’s not visible.  A few frames later, Bubbleman’s visible as a blank Effect Monster.  In the former, I took a card back off the Wikia and fixed it into place, while in the latter, I just slapped my Bubbleman proxy since I was in Rome and all.
    3. As the Chief ends his turn after wiping Judai’s field, it pans down to our friends in the sarcophagi, but what should be Judai’s set Evolutionary Wings is really just an outline of a card filled in by the sky around it; slapped my proxy in place and adjusted it to the pan.
    4. As Judai preps to fuse Featherman and Burstlady, Burstlady is–of course–missing her outfit’s right shoulder strap, in favor of her shoulder being colored the color of her strap.  Fixed it in Photoshop, then inserted the fixed frame into Vegas, adjusting the brightness accordingly as she appears and leaves.
    5. After Judai gets the Chief down to 1900 LP, he’s summoning Friendog, but the blank Fusion Monster that should be Flame Wingman is reversed, and the card in his hand is just a blank Effect Monster.  I slapped my Flame Wingman proxy on and adjusted it to the pan, then slapped my Friendog proxy into his hand as he slaps it onto his Disk and adjusted it to the pan.
    6. Repeat of edit #3 right after #5.
    7. Don’t you love reused shots? Repeat of #3 and #6, only in reverse, as it pans up from Asuka to fade into Judai.
    8. Once the Chief switches his Guard into Defense Mode and he sets Shaman face-down, he’s missing both cards on his Disk and in his hand, respectively; slapped a proxy and a card back on, despite it being a faraway shot.
    9. As Judai cockily attacks Guard with Flame Wingman, he’s missing Friendog on his Disk; slapped it on, masking the part of the Disk above it back on.
    10. Once Necrovalley’s activated, we have a pan shot of the field; in it, Judai’s face-down Evolutionary Wings is reversed and brightened when it should be darkened due to being face-down.  I slapped my proxy on properly and dimmed the brightness on it, masking Judai’s leg in front of it, then keyframed it to the pan.
