Expect a mix of YGO stuff (and a little ZeXal and SEVENS [which I'm slowly watching]), with some occasional randomness.Duel Links ID: 537-542-930 | Master Duel ID: 999-767-712

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 34 Subbed (Finalized)

The One Where Fans Pretty Much Get Their Judai VS Kaiba Duel. And The Steam Puns Waft Away From My Head

With the last string of serious duels causing Judai to be in a funk, Winged Kuriboh guides him to set foot into the Spirit World lying beyond the Hot Springs.  There, he meets the spirit of Kaibaman, who says that his Blue-Eyes card would like to battle him.  Judai and Kaibaman begin their duel, and against his Blue-Eyes and Knight of White Dragon, Judai soon finds himself dueling seriously.  And when his Ultimate is finally summoned…

It’s episode 34! Kind of a neat one, given that this is one of the first episodes that helps Judai reconcile the idea of dueling for keeps with his idea of dueling being all for fun.  Kind of curious to know where this development went in hindsight looking at Season 3… But that scene just before Kaibaman’s last turn with Impossible Victory playing, and then his beating Judai with his three BURRRRST STREAAAAMs, were great.

Also, it’s Judai VS basically Kaiba, which is neat.  And the animation gets surprisingly good, too.

This one didn’t take too long to handle since I’d already revised the script a few months back, so I just had to set up my timing video and retime the lines, but I did pick up on a few things I wanted to fix, as well as one thing I wanted to translate for the hardsub, which I’ll mention.  List below the cut, as usual~

Enjoy, all, and happy Friday! Stay tuned for the NAC post, which’ll also have 33 since lol, I totally forgot to post it before working on 34.  I’ll be working on 35 soon; we seem to be hitting the part of GX where they’re really good about not goofing with cards, so we’ll see if that helps trim down any delays.  Looking at about a 1-2-week window to finish it, hopefully.

    Fixes!

    1. Translated the  湯 /yu/“Hot Springs” kanji for the hardsub, with a side-note subtitle in the eventual released script.
    2. As Kaibaman summons… Kaibaman, the card he’s holding from a distance is just a yellow rectangle; I slapped a Kaibaman proxy on, then moved it with the panning of the shot, masking in Kaibaman’s coat over it as he’s summoned and fades in.
    3. As Kaibaman sacrifices… Kaibaman to summon Blue-Eyes, the card he’s holding from a distance is… just a yellow rectangle.  I just slapped a BEWD proxy on, reducing the opacity to zero for the frames where the card’s covered by the wind the sacrifice is making.
    4. As Kaibaman plays Manju God on his Disk, it seems someone in the staff jumped the gun a little; he has Blue-Eyes Ultimate on there! But only for a few frames, as it switches to show Blue-Eyes White Dragon once he swings his Disk over a little.  So, I slapped a BEWD proxy on top of it in AE and moved it with his Disk for the initial first few frames that BEUD is in.
    5. As Kaibaman draws after his rousing speech to Judai, the card he draws–which we later see is Fusion–is just a green rectangle in his hand as he slips it under his palm.  I placed a Fusion proxy, then masked his hand and fingers over it, moving it along with the zooming of the shot before he moves his hand so we get the card’s back instead.
