99% - GX Season 2 Opening (Names Translated/Textless)
mfw i finally finished editing this thing
(Note: video is like this because I originally planned to just show off the name shots, but YT and copyright i swear to– I even had to mirror some of the shots to try and skirt that lol, so I switched which side gets flipped and mainly only on the recap shots)
So, as I mentioned in these two posts, I’ve been at work the past 3-5 weeks revisiting 99%’s Season 2 opening video to finalize my Season 2 subs, and editing it such that not only could I fully translate the character names, but I could make a textless version of the different variations we never officially got textless versions of.
And here, you see some of that in action: after I took time to recreate the name boxes throughout the opening (text and a transparent box on a transparent background to overlay), I first worked on those two Chronos/Pharaoh shots near the end; since there are two versions, I worked on both back-to-back to take care of them, then moved on to try and mask out each character in front of their decks to translate their names (including Shou in his Osiris Red outfit from the 53-56 version and Ed’s deck from the 60-104 version, which I needed to create proxies for to cover up the lyrics on the bottom) and then keyframing the end shot to zoom in on Shou in his Red look for 53-56.
As I did all this, I thought it’d be neat to see what the OP looks like without the names, so I featured that on the righthand side (as edited for episode 91, though because it’s impossible to remove Pharaoh’s name near the end with the Japanese placard [well, I could redo the Japanese text, but I’m not sure what font I’d use lol], I had to include it translated). The lefthand side shows the Ep. 53 version of the OP (the Kenzan clip changes as of 55). H/t to Mark de Groot for his 99% English Cover, which I thought I’d just use here, edited for a TV-size version.
Overall, I thought things came out great; now, to revise the subs I used for this OP the last go-round. When I do, I may do another video like this to show the look off, though likely with this same dual-screen format or mirroring in spots (as noted, the YT/copyright struggle is real…). Once that’s done and I get Wake Up Your Heart V2 ready, I’ll likely take a quick break and briefly re-do 5D’s Dub-Uncut 25 and 26 (both already came out great, but new Duel Links lines to add!) before getting to work on finalizing 53.
As I work through Season 2, I’ll be releasing some of these different versions over on NAC as some extras!
