After decades of developing in parallel with English-language comic books, manga have a rather different vocabulary for expressing themselves (and no, I don’t mean the obvious one). Visually, the angry vein and the sweatdrop are examples that may be familiar to English speakers (visual differences between manga and comic books are better explained by Scott McCloud in the iconography chapter of Understanding Comics). Sound effects are used differently, too.
