    alicethedragonvalkyrie:

You know, I never thought much about Ed’s life and what this duel really meant for him. Of course it’s about avenging his father and all, but it goes even deeper for that.

I’m not the type of person who’s able to see symbolism easily (which this series is really full of) but over the course of this liveblog I now realize that Ed’s deck symbolizes his entire life after his father’s death. His Clock Tower of Seclusion is dependent on time passing for its effect, his Destiny Heroes are all about one’s own future and being able to defy fate. But Ed, who has been so focused on hunting down his father’s murderer and the belief that destiny cannot be changed, has caused him to not change either. He’s the same six year old boy stuck in a sixteen year old body, frozen in time. Only by avenging his father and believing that destiny can change can he himself also change, move on, and make time move for him.

There was the obvious symbolism on how the D-HEROs represent the British and their literature, but that’s also a very interesting way to look at it.

To think about it, one of the most powerful D-HEROs, Dreadmaster, is set free by destroying the Clock Tower and unleashes his power. Edo Phoenix’s true potential can be reached as he breaks free from his own personal Clock Tower hindering him.

I’m pretty sure there’s also symbolism on Bloo-D and how Edo’s fate seems to be around tragedies and grim events, but I’m too sleepy for that.
