I am so confused. Judai sent Neos to the cemetery to activate Aqua Dolphin’s effect and only destroyed Ruby Carbuncle. But before, Judai would have one other monster out on the field alongside Aqua Dolphin and activate its effect that way.

I figured it out! The OCG/anime effect does need a discard, but you have to control any monster that has more ATK than what gets destroyed, not one other than Aqua Dolphin.  So, since he controls Dolphin (600 ATK), he’s able to get rid of Ruby (300 ATK).  I was going to say they convoluted it for the situation, but it makes sense haha.

Except Aqua Dolphin was the only monster on his field in this play. xD

Well yeah, but his effect lets Judai choose any monster on his field for it, including Aqua Dolphin! So he targeted Dolphin to base the ATK thing on, searched Johan’s hand, and destroyed Ruby. :P
