    GX Finalized-Subs!71 (WIP) - “The Former Shooter Game Champion”

    Getting work on my finalized subs for episode 71 underway, and as part of it, something I wanted to do was translate the file Asuka–now with the Society of Light–pulls out about Ryusei (Lorenzo in the dub) here.  Took me almost a week to do with a few hours after work here/there, a few hours yesterday, and then mostly finishing touches today.  And this was kind of interesting, since I had to brush up a bit about older shooter/shooting games for context; 71 has some gaming references peppered in, between Ryusei using the BES cards based on the Gradius game in his duel with Judai and even little things here like the references to Space Invaders with the Nagoya Shot/Attack (”名古屋打ち/nagoya uchi;” a bug in the 1978 game, so named because it was discovered in Nagoya, Japan, lol).  So all told, Ryusei here has some credibility to back up the claim in the episode that he’s a game champ.  (I’m assuming he won a shooter tournament Kaiba might’ve hosted at some point.) [Shoutout to [a Japanese site I’d link to if it weren’t for Tumblr hiding this post from the tags if I linked to anything here] for transcribing Ryusei’s profile]

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episodes 69 and 70 Subbed (Finalized)

    kaiowut99:

    (Previously: Episodes 67 and 68 Subbed [Finalized])

    (Check out my Subbed!GX Stream Masterpost!)

    Chronos VS Napoleon! March of the Toy Soldiers

    Interim Principal Chronos and Vice-Principal Napoleon quarrel over the abolition of the Red dorm, and the two Instructors soon decide to duel.  Three Toy Soldiers appear from Napoleon’s Army deck, and through the Forced March and Fife and Drum Corps Magic Cards, they inflict a lot of damage to Chronos.  In that moment, a power shovel* strikes the Red dorm, starting its demolition–but as Chronos uses his Antique Gear Monsters to retaliate, his carpenters begin to rebuild it.

    (*The original Japanese summary refers to a wrecking ball here, but the entire episode it’s just Napoleon’s power shovel tearing at the Red dorm.)

    Asuka VS Manjoume White Thunder!

    Manjoume defeats the Blue students one by one, bleaching the Blue dorm white in a baffling course of action.  He goes on to say that the Society of Light, led by Saiou, will finish the academy, and Asuka duels him hoping to put a stop to that.  Manjoume’s “Hell’s White” Permanent Magic inflicts 600 damage to his opponent, in exchange for forcing him to play while displaying his hand–a strategy that throws Asuka off her game, as Manjoume wastes no time in using his Armed Dragons to corner her.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving! (Or your regular Thursday if you’re not in the US.) I’ve got finalized!69 and 70 here coming in like a wrecking ball~ (Which… is actually a bit of an accurate reference, given how things change with the Society of Light plot starting here, lol.) These two episodes are fun and interesting to watch, as 69 treats us to Chronos’s first duel of Season 2 and Napoleon’s first ever, as best professor Chronos shows us more character development while standing between Napoleon and tearing down the Red dorm, and takes some… damage for it.  70 kicks the Society of Light plot we’ve been lowkey building up since 61 into gear, as Manjoume White Thunder suddenly becomes a threat and single-handedly bleaches his former Blue dorm white while everyone else was focused on the Red mess;  Asuka steps in to try and snap him out of it, her “we forge our own fates” philosophy clashing with Manjoume’s “we can’t stop fate” one, but Manjoume’s able to get Asuka overthinking her strategies (causing her to break YGO’s “don’t think about your endgame” rule) and that ultimately leads to her fated defeat as she joins Manjoume in the SoL.  She does share a good character moment with Fubuki, though, as he tells her how proud of her he is for being so determined to find him–a message that he luckily doesn’t feel a need to sing–while the moment where Judai and the others question Manjoume’s sanity is great.
    Animation-fix-wise, there were several card-related fixes I worked on, mostly in 69 as 70 was pretty good about that; both also got one or two quality-of-watching fixes.  Details below the cut, as usual, along with a quick Translation Note for one of Napoleon’s lines in 69.  I also chose to remove quite a bit of the extra Italian/French words I put into Chronos’s and Napoleon’s dialogue in my original run-through of 69, since I thought it might’ve been… a bit overkill. 😅 And since at this point I’ve been consistently handling Chronos’s “[na] no ne”s with “[now,] won’t [I/it/etc]?/no?” and Napoleon’s “de aru” through having him speak more elegantly/pompously, so it’s their general speaking styles that they take issue with about each other here.
    Enjoy, folks; these are now up on NAC~ Our next double-release’ll cover 71 and 72, as Judai faces the Academia’s resident game champ and a deck-destruction strategy–both are interesting episodes (and ones I haven’t revisited in a while).  Stay tuned!
    All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy Videa, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function to organize everything like on Dailymotion.  Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates.  Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
    If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents; does not include my finalized Season 1 stuff, which you can find on NAC’s download forum): [removed because Kickass has been sent to the stars]
    Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch to show support for the official release.  You can also just have their video playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!
    To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
    UPDATE (11/26/21): Finalized!Episodes 1-70 now on the list, with 69 [nice] and 70 newly finalized; finalizing Season 2′s now underway, so stay tuned as we revisit these~ (Removed the torrent link because the site’s now dead; may upload a new one at some point) I’ve also re-finalized episodes 1-64 so that they’re actually final now; details here if you’re curious. (Also slowed down the gif below since I’ve seen folks tag it due to the flashing; thanks again to ynminor for providing it a while back!)
    If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
    VS Ed (Part 1) - A New Power! Aqua Neos
    After so long, Judai returns and battles Ed with the Red dorm’s demise on the line.  Ed’s D-Heroes are still powerful, while Judai has made a complete recovery from his previous loss, in high spirits as he battles with the Neos deck he says evolved by catching space waves.  He has Aqua Dolphin and E-Hero Neos evolve into Aqua Neos to destroy Dreadguy, but as he does, he goes back to his deck?! Will Judai be able to master his Neos deck?
    VS Ed (Part 2) - The Fiery Flare Neos
    Judai’s duel versus Ed continues.  With his Neos deck still unmastered, Judai is exposed to the D-Heroes’ direct attacks, dropping him into a 200-LP pinch.  But his Neos deck comes through with Air Hummingbird, who recovers a lot of his Life, and Flare Scarab, whose ATK increases as he’s summoned.  Later, within the new zone his Neo Space Field Magic forms, the latter makes contact with E-Hero Neos (ATK/ 2500) to call out Flare Neos…
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    So who else was looking forward to Asuka VS Ed

    Episodes 67 and 68 have been finalized! One of a bunch of double-releases I want to work on to make up for some delays, this is an interesting duel all things considered, as Judai challenges Ed fresh off his jump into space (Misawa, I feel your “nitpicky” pain) and rediscovering his inner kid–which he uses to try and break through to Ed on how he shouldn’t use his dad’s D-Heroes for revenge, and he realizes that he was the one burdening his D-Heroes with fate.  A neat exchange that dissolves the antagonism that was going on between Judai and Ed there.  Our resident cult member Manjoume also starts turning some gears in Ed’s head about Saiou and the Society of Light in 67, and after seeing Judai’s new power for himself, he decides to stick around hoping to clear things up with Saiou.

    Fun note: the GX manga started being serialized in Japan as these episodes originally aired, as the credits are updated to include that. (Though Yugipedia puts the original run starting on December 5th, 2005, while 67 aired on January 11th 2006, but 🤷🏽‍♂️) Also, the Flare Neos scene is a favorite, as I first saw it when I first watched the flashback in 105 (since I started watching GX in Japanese around the mid-70s on Nebs.TV back in the day lol), so it was nice getting to it in 68 proper when I first subbed 68 some years ago.  (Also, Gil Bo Noh did some Key Animation work in 68, though the episode as a whole has really good art; I’m inclined to think the one shot as Ed has the Doubleguy Token hit Judai directly pre-eyecatch was his doing, though I’m not sure if it’s confirmed somewhere, lol.)

    In terms of animation fixes, I did work on a fair amount of them for each episode, though moreso in 68; mainly card-related fixes (including one that was just fixed in 59 as well), but I did do a few quick footage fixes, and in 67 I also translated the signpost Napoleon leaves at the Red dorm (as shown in 66′s preview for it); list below the cut, as usual, if you’re curious.

    Enjoy; getting some work started on 69 and 70 for the next double-release for Chronos VS Napoleon (and more development for best professor) and Asuka VS Manjoume White Thunder, which should be fun.

  • 5D’s “Dub-Uncut” Mini-Series - A Lance99 Project

    kaiowut99:

    image

    Everybody, listen!

    So, this was something I started a few weeks ago–the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (21-29)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t totally salvage what they changed for no raisin).  Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.  And Duel Links giving us 5D’s World also helped a lot, as it gave us the English VAs performing lines right from the Japanese version, which I did my best to squeeze in, along with some summon chants from later on.  It was fun working on this!

    Along with the more accurately-paced dialogue, I’ve also translated the OP/EN, the title cards, and previews (where I also threw in the corresponding lines to the Japanese preview from the next episode, if able) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel.  Episode 29 also features the awesome English cover of Last Train - A New Morning that Mark de Groot did to that end, but the release I’ll post on NAC will have it as an optional audio track.  I go into more of the specifics with each episode’s own release post, so check out the tag here to see what I’ve done with them! If you’re curious about how they look/sound as I edit everything, check out the work-in-progress videos I’ve done here.

    Anywho, check ‘em out below! And always check this post in case any of the links break!

    Current Update (2/22/21): I went back to all but episode 22 and finalized these episodes to make some things consistent across all of them and reduce some of the hardsubs I included in some episodes that I may have gone a bit overboard with–but this mini-project is officially done!

    Previous Update (2/18/21): After starting with 23-26, going back to do 21-22 and redo 23-26, after over 2.5 years (somehow), episodes 21-29 are all done! 🎉 Unless 4K/Konami Cross Media decide to flub up more episodes somehow, I won’t be doing more full episodes, but you can keep an eye on my WIP-video tag or my YouTube channel for the occasional clips I might do~

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 4Kids Uncut Dub Masterpost!

    kaiowut99:

    image

    Update (10/2/18): ALL THE LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED! I was told the links to my subbed!GX masterpost might’ve been down when Videa.hu just refreshed the video IDs, so I thought I should update the links on this list, just in case! Please let me know if you find that the links are down, and always check the original post in case they were already fixed!

    So I had these lying around and, after some discussion earlier, decided to upload them.  This is the uncut dub 4Kids produced with FUNimation way back in… *google-fu* 2004 WHOA WHAT HOLD ON TEN+ YEARS AGO?! WHAT–I MEAN HOW?! :O

    *ahem* Anywho, yeah, produced back in 2004.  This dub kept the original music and OP/EN, card designs, as well as the original dialogue.  How well it was adapted is now up to you to judge. :P Some original names were also kept in spots (like Sugoroku over Solomon), while one instance sounds good in theory, but not so much in practice lol.  It only went on for nine episodes before the plug was pulled, with a fourth DVD going up to 12 already planned.  The main excuse tossed around was that 4Kids didn’t want them to compete with sales of the dub DVDs (while, while stupid, given it was 4Kids at the time…), but after looking it up on the Wikia and seeing a possible legal rights issue listed there, that seems a lot more plausible.  Especially given the contract issues with Yugi’s Seiyuu, Shunsuke Kazama, that were only recently cleared up IIRC for the Crunchyroll subs.  And since the Japanese-audio versions were on the DVDs too, it does make sense.  But who knows, maybe with the DM remaster going on, they’ll reconsider resparking the project.

    And back in March 2016, I spent a few days resyncing the uncut dub’s audio to the Japanese DVD rips (Zero-Raws for 1-4, then Astral_Union’s for 5-9 since ZR had some weird frame rate issue going there).  I also tweaked the audio a bit; for one, I added back the more human-like monster sounds (Cyclops/Hitotsu-Me Giant, Crocodilus, etc) that were cut for some reason where no one was speaking over them.  And I also made the prologue about the History of Gaming consistent through all nine episodes (originally, it’d either be scripted slightly differently or had different inflections) by using the prologue as used in episode 8, which was much closer to the original’s style.  I’ll post these up for download on NAC sometime soon, so stay tuned.

    But anywho, enough backstory.  Here you go, guys; enjoy!

    For more uncut episodes, you can look into watching the Singapore dub; also keeps the original music and dialogue, but they use the dub names and the voices/acting (but mostly the voices) can be a bit wacky at times, DUDE! Still, they made it up to Mai VS Marik at last check, so they have that working for them.  It was up on Dailymotion, but currently only two episodes from it are up.

    Also, while we’re on the topic, while Googling for the Singapore dub, I dug up this petition asking 4K and Konami to consider an uncut redub.  It was made last summer; why not try and boost it? :D (Also, we should all mention the DM remaster going on in Japan as a good excuse to do it lol)

    Keep reading

    So, just saw someone drop reminder tags that DM’s original English dub first premiered waaay back on 9/29/01, so… happy 20th [slightly belated] birthday to it, I suppose haha.  Issues as I have with it, I wouldn’t be here involved with this franchise if not for 4Kids’s English dub popping onto my TV when I was 11-12, so it does get points for that.  (Wonder where we’d be had these premiered instead… 🤔)

    Worth mentioning, it looks like the uncut dub’s birthday is only a few weeks away, too–the first DVD was released on October 19th, 2004. i’m not old you are

  • My Subbed!GX Stream Link Masterpost!

    kaiowut99:

    All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy Videa, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function to organize everything like on Dailymotion.  Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates.  Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!

    If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents; does not include my finalized Season 1 stuff, which you can find on NAC’s download forum): [removed because Kickass has been sent to the stars]

    Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch to show support for the official release.  You can also just have their video playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!

    To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.

    UPDATE (9/16/21): Finalized!Episodes 1-66 now on the list (9/24 EDIT: Made a minor fix to 65 and updated the link); finalizing Season 2′s now underway, so stay tuned as we revisit these~ (Removed the torrent link because the site’s now dead; may upload a new one at some point) I’ve also re-finalized episodes 1-64 so that they’re actually final now; details here if you’re curious. (Also slowed down the gif below since I’ve seen folks tag it due to the flashing; I forget who originally created it now but always loved it, lol.)

    If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P

    Hell Kaiser Ryou! Chimeratech Overdragon

    Since his defeat to Ed in the Pro Leagues, the life in Kaiser Ryou has faded.  But at the invitation of a suspicious promoter, he participates in an underground duel–duels in which, crucially, one risks their life to treat their savage audience to a show.  As Acidic Last Machine Virus causes his Machine-Types like Cyber Dragon to rust, the Kaiser is not only cut off from summoning any Monsters, but it causes him to take damage.  With each drop in his LP, an electric current flows through his body, exciting the spectators…

    Judai’s First Dream Duel!

    Lost in the forest, Judai’s consciousness starts to fade from hunger, causing him to reminisce about his duels thus far–taking down Instructor Chronos’s Ancient Gear Golem with Flame Wingman during his Entrance Exam, battling the then-Blue elite Manjoume and his V-to-Z Dragon Catapult Cannon shortly after his enrollment, battling Misawa’s seventh deck with the right to represent the Academia on the line, and his first loss in the face of Kaiser Ryou’s Cyber End Dragon…

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *crashes onto your TL months late with non-corporate coffee*
    And these two are finally up and finalized! Sorry for the wait, if you were looking forward to ‘em–as I mentioned in my post on Sunday, they were pushed back a bit while I did one final lookover on 1-64′s scripts and hardsubs so I could actually call them “finalized.” I’d started to get them out of the way while waiting for some potential editing help, then just decided to finish it after scrapping the last little thing I hoped to work on (I planned to break briefly after 66 to do these re-finalizations anyway, but the timing happened to work out).  More details there.
    But leaving that aside, here we have a pretty popular episode in Hell Kaiser Ryou’s debut, as he’s pushed to the brink by Mad Dog Inukai after Monkey Monkey Mountain Saruyama invites him to his first underground duel. They do a really good job of portraying Ryou as having lost his mojo post-Ed, showing a realistic view of what the big leagues in sports are like when that happens to you and you lose out on sponsorships/etc, and so when he gets cornered and Saruyama drills into him how he never once thought of winning since that duel, wanting to just stick with his respectful dueling, a spark lights up in him and… well, RIP Mad Dog. (Also, s/o to Takeshi Maeda for really selling Ryou’s shift in mindset by the end, and to his dub VA for sounding similarly good, imo.)
    66 is probably less popular in comparison, treating us to our first clipshow of the series, though 66 episodes in isn’t a bad time (could be worse, VRAINS jk).  It’s endearing enough, though–kinda nice seeing SAL again; Judai’s hunger-induced visions give us Chronos, Misawa, and Manjoume making monkey noises; and the duels featured were important for Judai early on.  I also like the bit of new animation as vision!Ryou follows up with Judai about respecting his opponents; goes with what I’d noticed before about Judai adding his Fusion Undone/De-Fusion strategy to his own dueling after losing to him. (also Judai making a signpost sweatdrop from his aloofness pls)
    Part of the initial delay with these were the footage fixes I wanted to work on, as well as a couple visual translations here/there which were fun to work on.  Really want to thank @paradoxi-kay for their great work as always in helping to translate the cover of the copy of Duel Magazine that Judai comes across early in 65, and starting the one on Shou’s copy that I finished up.  List of everything worked on below the cut, as usual, if you’re curious.
    Enjoy, folks! I’ve gotten some work started on 67 already, and my plan is to try and work on some double releases to make up a bit of time, lol.  I’ll be posting these two on NAC in the next couple of days along with the re-finalized hardsubs and scripts/DVDRips; while I work on getting 67 and 68 done, I’ll also start some work on prepping softsub MKVs (also to go up on NAC) for everything I’ve fully finalized, since it’s been a while on that front.
    Slight link overhaul! Along with adding newly-finalized episodes 65 and 66 (Hell Kaiser Ryou’s debut and our first clipshow), the links for 1-64 have been updated for their newly-actually-finalized-for-real-this-time versions (which will be up on NAC in the next couple of days).  As always, check the original post or my reblogs in the notes in case of any link updates!
    GX 65 - Video Frame Editing Help?
    Looking for a little help on an animation edit I’d like to work on for my finalized episode 65 subs–I’m trying to correct an error where they showed Mad Dog Inukai’s Multiple Slime in Defense Mode despite it being in Attack Mode, entailing a few frames’ worth of editing to remove the Slime (as I’ve already masked it out to slap onto the fixed frames), so you’d just need to replicate the floor and cage bars over it.
    image
    I was in talks with someone who I hoped would be able to help, but unfortunately between their work schedule and maintaining their YouTube channel, that’s fallen through.
    Details here; if you’re good at Photoshop/etc and might be able to help with this, it would be much appreciated–I’d credit you in the episode’s end credits, but can also commission the help if need be.  Shoot me a DM if interested; would be great to make this fix happen if possible.  There wouldn’t be a huge rush, though if you’d be able to work on it within the month or sooner, that’d be great, as the wait trying to work with my contact has delayed this episode for over three months now, lol. (The wait hasn’t been too bad, since I’ve been able to get a jump on giving my finalized episodes thus far a final revision [and I’m up to the Seven Stars episodes now], but yeah)
    Thanks in advance! 🙏🏽
    (Reblogs for visibility would be appreciated~)
