Took long enough to finish up and polish (partly because of work and activism life actually picking up a bit), but here’s a brand-new “dub-uncut” episode! With my first few takes in episodes 23-26 newly revised, I was looking forward to working on 27 and starting fresh again, lol. In case this is the first you’re hearing about my mini-project here, let’s get you up to speed:
So, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (21-29)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage much of what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here. To this end, I’ve also used dialogue from Duel Links where applicable, or even borrowed audio from other episodes with the vocals isolated to lend to that effect.
Check out the masterpost of episodes I’ve done here!
So, this one was fun to do particularly because overall, save for the, er… butchering that happened on explaining the Dark Synchro mechanic (4Kids wut) and the rewrite of Carly’s interaction with her Editor-in-Chief (and making Carly a “blogger” lol), the dialogue was already more or less in line with the Japanese version, which meant that I was more or less just removing a lot of the fluff as I added back the OST. As I did in 22, 24, and 26, I added subs for the scenes where 4Kids rewrote things a bit too much for my taste (so, the scenes I mentioned above, but also the occasional line or a few), but of course these subs will be optional in the MKV I release on NAC for this. I also added back some SFX and tried to remove the dub’s replacement SFX in most cases, though I had to swap out the SFX as Speed Warrior was tuning with Junk Synchron since 4Kids had a tendency to add some new one over the original SFX and made it too loud to work with the Yusei chant I put there. And I translated the OP/ED credits in Last Train and CROSS GAME, revamping my singable lyrics a bit for Last Train while drafting new ones for CROSS GAME which I’ll post soon; you can see my Last Train translation in the second WIP video and CROSS GAME’s here. Full process breakdown below the cut.
Also, major thanks to yugidmx5 for providing A+ rips of the “The Day Begins/Tenpei” theme in the Carly/Angela scene, the “Vision of Tragedy” theme as Yusei and Ruka talk about the Satellite’s future, and the alternate “Dark Signers” tune which plays as we first see them and then again between the Dark Signer drones recruiting and Yusei chasing Dark-Signer!Dick down (before it transitions to the OST-released version once Yusei gets to the building under construction); I know that since these came out well, he’s working on better rips for some or most of the unreleased OST, so stay tuned there (I also drafted up a full version of the alternate DS theme, but had to get creative since they didn’t play all of it in this alternate style; will post soon). And thanks to Tiny Spider Productions, who provided the “shock” SFX playing as Carly sees Yusei’s arm actually glowing in her car, some inspo here/there for dialogue fixes, and provided CurtisH from CastingCallClub’s recording he did voicing a line from Tanner translating the original line about the four Signers they know which 4Kids cut short.
I hope folks enjoy! Just breezing through 28 often for lines to use here, I can tell it’s going to be a headache because they did throw in a lot more jankiness in the dialogue… So, fun. 🙃 Once I handle finalizing my subs for GX 56 (and possibly 57 due to how long this took), I’ll start drafting it out; stay tuned~
(And if you’re able to reblog for visibility, it’d be appreciated given Tumblr’s suckage with links 🙏🏽)
So, this was something I started a few weeks ago–the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed, like Yusei asking about Goodwin talking to Akiza instead of JP!Yusei’s asking about his friends). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here. I’ll be working on this alongside my finalized GX subs, so this should be fun.
Along with the more accurately-paced dialogue, I’ve also translated the OP/EN, the title cards, and previews (where I also throw in the corresponding lines to the Japanese preview from the next episode, if I’m able) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel. I go into more of the specifics with each episode’s own release post, so check out the tag here to see what I’ve done with them! If you’re curious about how they look as I edit everything, check out the work-in-progress videos I’ve done here.
And with Duel Links having given us 5D’s, we also have the English VAs performing lines right from the Japanese version, so I’ll be doing my best to squeeze them in! Especially since the Latin American dub stopped after 4Kids gave them “Season 1″ of episodes 1-52, so no chants from 65+ unfortunately~ [But we get “The hopes coalesce into a single star!” so I’ll be happy]
Anywho, check ‘em out below, and stay tuned as I get them done! Italics denote an episode I haven’t gotten to uncutify yet.
Current Update (10/6/20): Episodes 21-22, revised!23-26, and newly-finished 27 are here! 5D’s World’s release in Duel Links helped me fix up my original takes on 23-26 (and I forgot to update this with 26 when I finished it…), and now I’m finally trying out the first few Dark Signer episodes that I’ll be able to edit. Stay tuned for 28 and 29!

5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 27 WIP #4: The Dark Signers Appear
(Don’t mind the extra effects, YouTube being YouTube and all they were needed to get past the Content ID match)
Been a bit eager to show this one off, haha. So, in the last WIP, we left off with Carly’s intro; here, I show off the near-final product of the scenes with the Dark Signers making their first appearance, along with Yusei and co discussing their birthmarks (including my attempt to fix the dub’s dumb mistake calling Yusei’s the “Head” mark, but since I didn’t have a clip of him saying “tail” handy, I combined a clip of him saying “T[ake]” with another one to give me the “ail” sound, along with tweaking Leo’s line after; if someone knows an episode in which dub!Yusei might have said “tail,” lemme know lol), and then possessed Dick showing up to duel Yusei.
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 27 WIP #3 - A Foreboding/Carly on the Scene
New WIP video! Would’ve uploaded one sooner, but I was working on a footage fix for finalized!GX 56 (fixed the backwards store signs as Ryou’s walking in 57!). (Fourth upload now, and thought I’d just go back to the effect I used in my second WIP video… dangit YouTube)
Anywho, showing off the scene with Yusei and Ruka discussing the vision they saw, and then Carly’s interrupting Angela to ask Godwin a question to lead into her driving scene. First, major thanks again to yugidmx5 for the great-quality rip they were able to provide for the “Vision” theme playing in the former scene; I tweaked the dialogue a bit near the end to remove Yusei’s commercial-break-inducing monologue by looping footsteps and recycling an earlier gasp along with a “Hmm” sound he makes. For the first Carly/Angela scene, I was able to shorten Carly’s dialogue over her fortune card to match the JP lines a bit more by slightly slowing the relevant parts and using those, while I removed Goodwin’s “sheen/sunshine” line by getting “still” from episode 23 and keeping the line at “I’m afraid I didn’t see that.”
As Carly’s driving scene comes up, I had to shorten her line to remove “that means I’m onto something” (for recycling later) and keep it at “Goodwin dodged my question! Better not let it slip…”, then as she’s driving, the Editor’s last line to her was shortened a bit given it was fluffed up in the dub, while I let Carly’s line play on a different audio track so that as his line finished Carly’s line starts as she starts lip-flapping (unfortunately, with the limited audio, I couldn’t do away with the Editor’s junk lines about what interns are supposed to do). Then, as she sees Yusei’s arm glowing, I had to shorten her line a bit because the dub held it on Yusei to give her extra dialogue; I grabbed “wait” and “there it is” from somewhere, shortened her line about Goodwin to just “Goodwin tried to feed me that bit,” and borrowed “The whole world will know…” from later on (as it’ll go unused; thanks to Tiny Spider Productions for the inspiration with his take on a Dub-Uncut #27). Also, Veronica Taylor does make a great Carly, which is nice to hear with the original OST.
(BTW, don’t suppose anyone has that one SFX handy that plays when Carly sees Yusei’s birthmark? I’d like to have it to play in full instead of having it cut off the way it is now because of how I spliced the line, lol.)
Lemme know what you think! This should be how these scenes sound in the final product, which I’m still going over, but I’ll likely be able to wrap up by the end of the week; I’ll likely have another WIP or two coming!
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode 27 WIP #2 - Enter Stutter-Stammer Carly
Wow, this new arc looks brilliantly flashy!
nah, it’s just me making sure YouTube doesn’t block, don’t mind it lol
Getting into episode 27 proper after the first WIP weeks ago, here’s another preview of what I’ve been working on! Work’s been gradually coming along on this; I’ve drafted the music and dialogue for much of the episode, so now I’m tweaking things and adding SFX where needed. I wanted to show off this clip, but wanted to also retranslate the Last Train OP and actually translate the ED, which I just finished up (I’d already translated Last Train for myself a while back, while I’d never done CROSS GAME, which also had me write up some singable translated lyrics for it that I’ll flesh out and post sometime).
Here, for Carly’s debut scene, first off: major thanks to yugidmx5; they provided a cleaner rip of the in-hindsight-poorly-named “Tenpei” theme for me to work with, along with some other help later in the episode. Dialogue-wise, I cut out some of Angela’s offscreen fluff dialogue by throwing in the Japanese audio as Carly got herself ready, then cut Carly’s “from one journalist to another” bit as she walks over after Angela shoves her and gets Yusei’s name wrong (which I’d have edited out, but not much to work with lol;
I also edited Angela’s line a bit to remove her last name since, well, she never had one originally). Wish they kept Angela calling her “Stutter-Stammer Carly…” Then, I looped some of the crowd chanting “Yusei!” at the end to edit out Yusei’s unneeded internal monologue. And then, we get into the fully translated OP, which speaks for itself, lol.
All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion. Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates. Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents; does not include my finalized Season 1 stuff, which you can find on NAC’s download forum): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2
(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them. Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)
Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release! You can also just have their upload playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!
To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
UPDATE (8/23/20): Finalized!Episodes 1-55 now on the list! Finalizing Season 2′s now underway, so stay tuned as we revisit these~
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
Tyranno Kenzan, the best of the Yellow freshman class, challenges Judai to a duel. Originally heading a group of delinquents, Kenzan hopes to defeat Judai and prove himself as an icon at the Academia. Out of a love of dinosaurs, Kenzan uses a Dinosaur deck. With his Jurassic World Field Magic, he powers up his Dinosaur-Types and Winged-Beast-Types as Trap effects bounce off of them. In addition, his Revised Ultra Evolution Pill evolves his Archaopteryx Archeonys into Dark Tyranno (ATK/ 2900), startling Judai…
Heya, took a bit longer than I was planning to once I finished 54 since some things came up, but here’s a finalized 55 for you! This was a fun one to go back to and revisit Kenzan’s backstory as a guy who didn’t know how to captivate the people he’d be a leader to; he sees Judai’s command of an audience and enthusiasm knowing he still has potential to turn things around in the bleakest times, and decides to learn from him and evolve–to Shou’s chagrin. (A bit of foreshadowing there too, as Johan in Season 3 makes a note of this trait of Judai’s during his duel with O’Brien.)
There were some card fixes I worked on and I re-translated a sign I did in 54 for consistency, but overall the workload was much lower than in 54 after working on that poster, haha. Breakdown below the cut, as usual. And since the duel’s finale showed up in 156 which I’ve already revised, it was a bit less work on the script there, too.
Enjoy, folks! With 55 done, I think I’ll be working on both getting 56 ready but also working more on my 5D’s “Dub-Uncut” take on 27, which I’ve already gotten some work done on; I’ve drafted most of the dialogue and recreated the music up to Yusei’s duel with possessed!Dick starting. The alternate “Dark Signers” track that’s played is interesting to listen to, too… Stay tuned!

Manjoume duels Gokaido, an elite new student who claimed the highest grades of his class at the Academia’s middle school. The new student calls Manjoume a “slacker,” noting how he once sat at the top of the middle school but has since fallen, now using Ojama Monsters in the Red dorm. Manjoume uses his XYZ combo for a cool preemptive strike, but finds himself counterattacked by his Warrior-Type deck and his Gilford the Legend. However, an unperturbed Manjoume, in a show of what he’s learned the past year, uses his Mecha Ojama King…
Two episodes into Season 2, and we have a duel with Manjoume essentially looking at his early-Season 1 self in the mirror! It’s a pretty neat episode, given that–even if there are strong ad vibes for the Warrior Structure Deck that had been about to be released back in 2006, lol. Though it was neat seeing Ben Kei and the Equip Magic combo in use with Gokaido (that scene as he brings out Gilford is a favorite since it uses “The Rival’s Onslaught” really well), as was Manjoume’s interesting Ojama combo evolution with the Mecha… mechanic, which sadly has yet to be released. Maybe Duel Links’ll throw us a Mecha Ojama King bone at some point…
So, I’d actually finished editing the script for this episode maybe two weeks ago, but part of the delay in releasing it is that I also wanted to translate the Gokaido/Manjoume poster in Chronos’s flashback–and on that note, I really can’t thank @paradoxi-kay (formerly thepalebride) enough for their time and effort over a few days in wiping the text so that I could slap my translation onto it. 🙏🏽 I’ll elaborate a bit more on that below the cut, as I go into the edits. There were also two card fixes I applied, Ben Kei related, and I also translated the “Currently Under Construction” sign Manjoume stands in front of at the end. More details below.
Enjoy, folks! To make up for a little lost time, I think I’ll actually jump onto 55 next and get that out of the way before I go handle 5D’s Dub-Uncut #27 a little more (I’m also trying to see what can be done on that front with the two unreleased OST pieces that I’d like to keep, but we’ll see); keep an eye out~

To make up for a little lost time, I think I’ll actually jump onto 55 next and get that out of the way before I go handle 5D’s Dub-Uncut #27 a little more (I’m also trying to see what can be done on that front with the two unreleased OST pieces that I’d like to keep, but we’ll see); keep an eye out~
All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion.
UPDATE (8/9/20): Finalized!Episodes 1-54 now on the list! Finalizing Season 2′s now underway, so stay tuned as we revisit these~
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
