Manjoume duels Gokaido, an elite new student who claimed the highest grades of his class at the Academia’s middle school. The new student calls Manjoume a “slacker,” noting how he once sat at the top of the middle school but has since fallen, now using Ojama Monsters in the Red dorm. Manjoume uses his XYZ combo for a cool preemptive strike, but finds himself counterattacked by his Warrior-Type deck and his Gilford the Legend. However, an unperturbed Manjoume, in a show of what he’s learned the past year, uses his Mecha Ojama King…
Two episodes into Season 2, and we have a duel with Manjoume essentially looking at his early-Season 1 self in the mirror! It’s a pretty neat episode, given that–even if there are strong ad vibes for the Warrior Structure Deck that had been about to be released back in 2006, lol. Though it was neat seeing Ben Kei and the Equip Magic combo in use with Gokaido (that scene as he brings out Gilford is a favorite since it uses “The Rival’s Onslaught” really well), as was Manjoume’s interesting Ojama combo evolution with the Mecha… mechanic, which sadly has yet to be released. Maybe Duel Links’ll throw us a Mecha Ojama King bone at some point…
So, I’d actually finished editing the script for this episode maybe two weeks ago, but part of the delay in releasing it is that I also wanted to translate the Gokaido/Manjoume poster in Chronos’s flashback–and on that note, I really can’t thank @paradoxi-kay (formerly thepalebride) enough for their time and effort over a few days in wiping the text so that I could slap my translation onto it. 🙏🏽 I’ll elaborate a bit more on that below the cut, as I go into the edits. There were also two card fixes I applied, Ben Kei related, and I also translated the “Currently Under Construction” sign Manjoume stands in front of at the end. More details below.
Enjoy, folks! To make up for a little lost time, I think I’ll actually jump onto 55 next and get that out of the way before I go handle 5D’s Dub-Uncut #27 a little more (I’m also trying to see what can be done on that front with the two unreleased OST pieces that I’d like to keep, but we’ll see); keep an eye out~
5D’s Dub-Uncut Episode #27 WIP #1: What Will Today’s Card Be?
Just about getting started with dub-uncut episode 27! Though I’m doing it in bits and pieces while I finish up finalizing GX episode 54’s subs, but I have been looking forward to this one. And part of it involved figuring out what to do with this clip, since of course 4Kids left these segments undubbed.
Luckily, Duel Links has these Duel Carnival events with the twins where they use their lines here, so it makes it easier to work with! The only trouble is that it’s Eileen Stevens playing the twins in Duel Links, as opposed to their earlier VA pre-65, so there’ll be an inconsistency there with the episode proper, but not much I can do, lol.
I also made use of more of their Duel Links lines to fill out the clip; since Rua and Ruka question the card before encouraging viewers to stay tuned, I combined an “Oh!” and “No way!” for Leo, followed by a “what’s” and “this?” from two different lines for Luna, then “You’re lucky!”/“You get to”/“see!” (though it sounds like a question since he’s saying “See?” in the original DL line), and finishing up is a “Here goes!” from Luna. I kept the beginning SFX before the twins pop up, then redid the SFX for the cards flipping and the showcased card moving forward.
Think it came out well, given the limits! Just have to see if the Duel Links audio is enough to tweak for 28 and 29’s clips… Also, I had the subbed video with the English over the sign’s Japanese there handy since I’d edited this episode for myself a while back for a personal DVD; I’ll likely try to actually translate the sign at some point while I work on this.
Stay tuned for some more WIPs!
So, much as I’ve stocked up on my Photoshop skills to this point, I’m having a bit of trouble trying to blank out this poster; content-aware doesn’t seem to be doing the job, at least through the low-skilled way I’m attempting to use it haha. I’d selected much of the Star Duel text area, but it’d still somehow throw in Manjoume and Gokaido… Also, the dub’s edit of this poster had their replacement blanking too blurred for some reason lol.
Would someone be willing to assist in getting this blanked? I’d really just need the whole Star Duel text area blanked along with the exclamation point on the right and kanji on the left caught up in the blur; if you’re able to replicate the background well, that’d be great. But if you’re able to blank out Manjoume’s and Gokaido’s names and fully color in their name boxes to redo them over where I stitched the frames together, that’d be much appreciated too! (I was thinking mirroring the non-blurred part of the boxes and moving them into place along the edge…)
I can handle the text translation after that’s taken care of. The best thing to do would be to edit it such that any of the blur’s not there wherever the text is (the blur on Manjoume and Gokaido can stay); when the thing’s done and I’m redoing the pan along the poster, I should be able to add the blur back in in Sony Vegas. Thanks in advance!
Once this poster’s finished, I think I can probably try to slap it into the other shots it comes up in during Chronos’s flashback via perspective Vanishing Point or other manipulation, but we’ll see when I get there, lol.
So, bit of an update, but I’ve pretty much managed to get the names blanked out and the boxes touched up to remove the blur going on there:
The issue remains cleaning off the Star Duel text nicely (I did kind of try repainting the background a little on the exclamation point, but I’m still not sure how to do the rest given the varying colors); would someone more Photoshop-savvy still be able to help there? Or even some tips on how to do it well if you’ve done something similar. 🙏🏽

This episode’s all revised and looking nice! In case this is the first you’re hearing about my mini-project here, let’s get you up to speed:
So, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (21-29)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage much of what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.
Check out the masterpost of episodes I’ve done here!
Revising this one didn’t take too long, since I was already pretty happy with how things came out originally; check out the original breakdown post here for more details on how what edits went into that. As I looked through it this time, all I really did was tweak audio levels and add SFX here/there and crossfade some lines of dialogue better, as well as make the reverb effects on the MC and thought lines consistent with how I’ve done them in prior episodes. I did also manage to stitch together an explanation from Yusei for Meteor Stream (I’d left Japanese Yusei’s explanation intact with subs before since I didn’t think I could, but I tried to stitch something together this time); I think I combined audio from episodes 24 and earlier in 26 with some Duel Links lines. I tried to make it crossfade well and sound as best as I could, so hopefully it’s not too jarring; you can hear it in the REDO WIP #1 video. yugidmx5 over on NAC also helped get a better-sounding “Absolute Powerforce!!” shout from Jack in episode 5 so I can mix it up with the Duel Links line and make it have a bit more umph.
Also, as I did with 22 and 24, I added subs in some parts where the dub went too far into right field and deviated from the Japanese script–for things like card effect explanations, Godwin’s plot thoughts, and that ending scene as Yusei tells Jack why he lost. As before, when I release it on NAC, these subs will be optional.
Enjoy folks! Now that 21-26 are all done and finalized, I’ll get to try dub-uncutting the early Dark Signer episodes! Should be neat. I’ll work on 27 after I finalize my GX 54 subs and deal with Manjoume taking on his mini-me. rip nani ka na nani ka naaa maybe
Judai and the others are now in their second year when a quiet freshman comes to duel Judai. While the freshman’s deck wasn’t all too powerful, it was also an improvised 40-card deck hastily made beforehand out of eight packs in the store. But even then, Archangel Zerato gets Judai’s LP down to 1200. Mid-duel, he speaks with a mysterious man on his cell phone, feeling a lack of interest in this duel due to his prediction. Shou and the others realize this is the well-known Star Duelist Ed Phoenix…
And after a bit too long, here’s finalized!53! It’s fun to finally be getting back into Season 2, since, later plot pacing issues and… questionable moments aside, there’s quite a bit to like about it. One such thing being the dynamic between Ed and Saiou that we’re introduced to here (one of my favorites), as the concept of fate/destiny starts to become an ever-present theme. Also, hearing Takehito Koyasu again for a while will be great now that I’ve actually seen JJBA and heard him as DIO. 😂 The animation/artstyle in this episode is also a nice touch-up from what we’ve been used to, and there were some great shots of Judai and Ed there.
So, part of the delay in getting this going since finishing 52 was getting my usual bells and whistles worked on for the translated hardsub; you’ll notice that the OP is fully translated, and not just with the credits–I wanted to do a thing I originally wanted to do way back when my first go-around but lacked the skills for and translate the character names that slide in! If you check out my “subbing-rambling” tag, you can see some of the work-in-progress posts I made showing it off as I worked on it. As part of this, I also prepared textless versions of the OP’s V2 shots of Chronos and Ed, as well as made Shou in his Red jacket textless for use here; I’ll be sharing these new textless openings as I go through the season over on NAC. (It’s really a shame that we never got those versions officially released…) The ED credits were pretty much copy/paste from Season 1, with a change in karaoke coloring, since thankfully that stays the same, and I’ll also be translating the “Best Card” shots at the end of each episode (which for some reason I noticed Crunchyroll doesn’t include, despite them being on the DVDs?), though on a static screen with the card spinning into view since that moving background’s hard to get blank, lol.
But once those were all done, there were some 53-specific edits and fixes to work on! For the hardsub, I translated the article we see about Ed so that we can read what was visible in Japanese (ie, Ed making waves in August just before Season 2 at an event Kaiba Corp. sponsored!), while I also made a few card fixes. Breakdown below the cut, as usual.
(UPDATE [7/9/20]: I reuploaded the episode because I realized I didn’t account for the different cards Shou has in his deck shot in the Opening in 53-56 vs 57-104; Gyroid, Cyclone, and Trap Hole in the former become Submarineroid, Vehicroid Connection Zone, and No Entry in the latter (all used in 56), which is what was used in the textless video I was working with while working on translating his name there. That’s been corrected, and will be accounted for as I share the textless OPs on NAC. I’m nothing if not consistency-minded. 💁🏽♂️)
Enjoy, folks! With 53 finalized, I’ll be giving my 5D’s Dub-UncutEp. 26 a quick lookover to see if I have to tweak anything before I work on making the Dark Signer arc episodes’ dubs more bearable, and then I’ll start working on 54. It’s been a bit since Manjoume last dueled, and him dueling his mini-me in Gokaido should be fun, haha.
All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion. Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates. Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents; does not include my finalized Season 1 stuff, which you can find on NAC’s download forum): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2
(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them. Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)
Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release! You can also just have their upload playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!
To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
UPDATE (7/5/20): Finalized!Episodes 1-53 now on the list! Finalizing Season 2′s now underway, so stay tuned as we revisit these~
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P

“The Fortune Cup Finale! The Lone King, JACK ATLAS”/”The Fortune Cup Finale (Part 1)″
Everybody, listen!
Here’s the newest installment of this short Dub-Uncut series! (Check out a quick preview here of the final thing~)
So, to catch people up, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.
This one was actually kind of pleasant to go through; 4Kids gave it a decent dub, at least if you remove all the fluff like I did! Jack/Yusei’s backstory being mostly faithfully translated helped, and the lack of any overdone trash-talk during the duel was nice. Applying the normalizing effect to the audio that I realized I could do as I finished editing 24 did help the quality overall, too.
So, to give a quick rundown, I removed the MC’s unneeded lines over Aki leaving with Divine (I left in the Japanese audio for a second later, so there’s a hint of Japanese Yusei, but he sounds almost like dub!Yusei in that scene, so it’s hardly noticeable if you haven’t rewatched this episode hundreds of time like me lmao), Rex gets to sound a bit less cheesy (”and UNITE YOU ALL” is gone before the OP, for example), I added a dub!Jack grunt from one of the BGM-less episodes so I’d get to keep in the COCKROACH STOMP, Lazar’s a bit less snotty as he makes his debut, JACK loses his unneeded monologue as he rides away with Yusei’s D-Wheel, I timed dialogue overall to sort of overlap more with the Japanese audio (like for Yusei’s thoughts pre-duel), I recycled a line or two from dub!24′s BGM-less audio to undo some of the trash-talking (like “It’s my turn!” from Yusei; likewise, we’re still undoing Let’s Rev It Up as I use my now-stock “I Synchro-Summon/Junk Warrior” clips), and… yeah, I think that covers it all. Oh, for the preview, since JP!Yusei is using his Stardust chant and I can’t use the dub equivalent from Season 3, I used the clip of Yusei near the end of 26 as he’s about to attack with Stardust. And I used an MC line from 26′s start that I’ll be editing out anyway over where Yusei reads the title.
(UPDATE [6/28/20]: As I’ve been revising my older releases after working on 21-24, I just briefly revised my crack at 25 to match how I’ve been handling those and updated the above link accordingly. Luckily, I was already pretty satisfied with how it came out originally, but I still did a few minor tweaks, like in line timing to make sure some of the dialogue didn’t look too out of sync with the lip-flaps, as well as splicing in/tweaking Duel Links lines so I could add in JACK’s chant for Red Daemon’s [which for some reason still doesn’t match the translation Yusei has for it in DL…], as well as Yusei’s Junk Warrior chant from later on which I previously added to 21 [you can see these in action here]. I also added his Stardust chant back into the preview and spliced a “Let’s go, Stardust!” to match the Japanese script. Sounds very nice.)
I ended up vocal-removing the DVD audio clip of the Speed World remix that’s played here to work with, which helped since it retained the background D-Wheel whirring to help the dub track, but I did that since the rip GoldenUmi on NAC had worked on skipped a bit or two so it was sort of unusable. It’s a real shame it wasn’t released or used more often. 😭😭😭
Lemme know what you think, folks! Going back to work on GX 41 soon, so stay tuned!
Heya, folks, I had some time this weekend after doing my GX Season 2 prepwork to look over my dub-uncut episode 25 and polish it up to how I’ve been handling these since 21-24! Check out the new link above, and see the Update section to see what’s changed since V1 (which I might keep up at NAC); basically, some Synchro chants are back in, which you can check out in action in the link there. I don’t think I’ll have too much to look over with 26 since it was the first one I’d added the Duel Links chants into and I think things had come out well, but I’ll still give it another onceover after I’m done timing GX 53′s script; hopefully soon, I’ll get to take a crack at 27 and get into the Dark Signer part of this mini-project, lol.
So, this was something I started a few weeks ago–the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed, like Yusei asking about Goodwin talking to Akiza instead of JP!Yusei’s asking about his friends). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here. I’ll be working on this alongside my finalized GX subs, so this should be fun.
Along with the more accurately-paced dialogue, I’ve also translated the OP/EN, the title cards, and previews (where I also throw in the corresponding lines to the Japanese preview from the next episode, if I’m able) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel. I go into more of the specifics with each episode’s own release post, so check out the tag here to see what I’ve done with them! If you’re curious about how they look as I edit everything, check out the work-in-progress videos I’ve done here.
And with Duel Links having given us 5D’s, we also have the English VAs performing lines right from the Japanese version, so I’ll be doing my best to squeeze them in! Especially since the Latin American dub stopped after 4Kids gave them “Season 1″ of episodes 1-52, so no chants from 65+ unfortunately~ [But we get “The hopes coalesce into a single star!” so I’ll be happy]
Anywho, check ‘em out below, and stay tuned as I get them done! Italics denote an episode I haven’t gotten to uncutify yet.
Current Update (6/28/20): Episodes 21-22, revised!23-25, and 26 are here! With the release of 5D’s!Duel Links, stay tuned for revisions to 23-26
(they were the first I did a while back) before I take a crack at 27-29.
