“The Fate of the Signers! A Future Shown By the Crimson Dragon!”/“The Fortune Cup Finale, Part 2”
Everybody, listen!
Just in time for Thanksgiving dinner, here’s the newest installment of this short Dub-Uncut series! (Check out a quick preview here of the final thing~)
So, to catch people up, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.
This one was… interesting. There was a lot of added fluff between Jack and Yusei that 4Kids added, and I did my best to get a lot of it out; having the new 5D’s Duel Links voice lines and the other BGM-less episodes were a great help to that end, as they were when it came to adding back some lines that were removed in the dub (like card explanations being replaced by the Showcase Interruption), including a “dub” of the cut beginning of the episode showing Jack destroy Junk Warrior. There was nothing I could do about Jack’s “settle for second” bit as he plays The End of Storm since the BGM-less episodes and Duel Links don’t feature Jack properly explaining it. Likewise, when Yusei plays Meteor Stream, I kept Japanese Yusei there with subs explaining it since a Showcase Interruption cut it out. And the MC having his “Yusei WON” scene at the end cut down a bit in the dub meant I had to get creative; I used part of his line at the end of 21 as the Bommer duel ends and one from the start of 23 or end of 24 to fill the empty space, then combined it with what was actually kept in the dub, adding back some SFX as needed for the fireworks.
The plot-relevant stuff was dubbed well, except for the gaffe with calling Godwin the fifth Signer; I made that line “with the power of the fifth Signer” instead of “with the power I possess as the fifth Signer.” Akiza also calling Satellite “New Domino City” was weird but “fixed” with a side-note subtitle. And the dialogue pacing is pretty on-par with the Japanese version now, though it didn’t make sense to switch Lazar and Rex’s lines at the beginning to match, and I added back Trudge’s lines from 25 over his flashback despite the original silence since I couldn’t move Lazar’s “Maybe he had a point” to where Yaeger says something similar because of the SFX there.
The music recreation wasn’t too bad, but aside from the version of “Fierce Battle” used at the beginning being at a lower pitch, the uses of “Dragon” and “Legend of the People of the Stars” in this episode were a tiny bit sped-up compared to their album versions. I saved the full versions in this speed before I cut them around to match their use here, and I’ll post them on NAC when I release this.
Overall, quite happy with how this came out, but lemme know what you think, folks! Going back to work on GX 42 soon by translating that COSPLAY DUEL TOURNAMENT poster in the 4-5 other clips I need it for then getting started on it, then I’ll be going back to work on 5D’s 21-22 and revise 23-25 with the new Duel Links audio if there are spots for it before I get to start 27. Stay tuned, and happy Turkey Day!

5D’s “Dub-Uncut” #26 - WIP #4: The People of the Stars
It’s been a week or two! I actually just finished the episode up [I kept going back so much to revisit things lol], so now I’ll be working on the bells & whistles and giving things a good quality check. Also had to cut out quite a chunk of this scene to make it under the copyright check threshold and not have this blocked~
For a change of pace, just showing off a non-duel scene for this episode. This scene should be finalized, but do let me know if the audio doesn’t feel as clear as it should or anything! I tried to fix the dumb “With the power I possess as the fifth Signer” line the dub threw in by making it “of the fifth Signer” so it’s not totally retcon’d later; I mixed in an “of” from a line in a different episode. I also switched around two of Jack’s lines near the end here (“the Crimson Dragon won’t let us back until one of us wins” and “whoever wins will show the Crimson Dragon they deserve to save the world”) to match the Japanese dialogue more. Sounds so much nicer with this track, too. :’)
(Also, fun fact: they slightly sped-up the OST track for its use in the show here; I had to slightly speed it up and then cut it into the version used; same for “Dragon” just after this.)

5D’s “Dub-Uncut” Episode 26 WIP #3: The King Strikes Back
Here’s another peek! I think I may have finalized how the sound here will be, but I’m sure I might end up tweaking it more as I look it over at the end. Really doesn’t help that Jack’s VA doesn’t sound as strong in certain parts in the original episode’s audio, which kinda makes his levels go all over the place… Had a few more Duel Links lines mixed in to get rid of the dumb trash-talk lines about Jack’s and Yusei’s time in the Satellite which was a bit improv’d; let me know if it sounds okay? Also got rid of Yusei’s “That was then and this is now!” line for a Duel Links “I activate my Continuous Trap” line; Duel Links’s really going to be a blessing~
Do let me know how you feel about the overall levels, too; I tried to match the volume of the BGM with how it seemed to be in the original, but sometimes the vocals ended up sounding lower so some had to be tweaked more in spots… It’s kind of annoying, actually. 😅
I’ve timed the music and lines up to about the People of the Stars bit, so once I finalize the mix pre-commercial break, I’ll draft things up some more.
This is Japanese!BBT after tons of audio editing and a rescored soundtrack to include more tunes from GX and DM that the official version didn’t include, opting instead for more 5D’s music than anything (which, while I love the 5D’s tunes, considering it’s a crossover/anniversary movie, sharing the love would’ve been cool). Sparked by the disappointment most fans felt over at Janime/NeoArkCradle over that, suggestions were brought up, GoldenUmi from GX_ST gave me audio tracks to work with, I worked some editing magic to get rid of most of the leftover music, timed the new songs, leveled them out volume-wise and added some SFX where needed, and BOOM goes the dynamite. It’s not entirely perfect, though, given said editing and having lost the original tracks to try and fix it with, but it’s at least watchable.
(I did tweak the dialogue a bit to match the original more, moreso in the beginning by switching some lines around or muting others (and just realized I missed a good chance with Jaden’s “about to get closer!” line in the first scene), and I added back monster sounds for the most part. Some parts might sound like they’re missing SFX; I really just put more effort into making the Japanese version sound good, lol.)
So, I’ve slowly been working on this project in between my fansubbing YGO GX; Dragon Ball is sorta my secondary fandom–though I’m less active in it, I’ll occasionally reblog a thing or two here–and the Kai dub has been insanely fun to watch. However, a lot of fans likely know how Kai’s composer, Kenji Yamamoto, was canned over a music scandal where a lot of his tracks were plagiarized–three episodes away from ending after Cell. Toei rushed to replace his tracks with Z Kikuchi stuff, then went back to the rest of the series, which wouldn’t be a bad thing–if they used more tracks to work with. I loved the Yamamoto score despite that, and while I like the Kikuchi score, I felt the music gets repetitive too easily given the limited tracklist. (Also, a Cell arc theme playing in the Saiyan arc wut)
Now, I love consistency (as anyone who knows how I go about subbing knows), and I’m also a big YGO fan. Way back, I got the idea to time the vocal tracks for clips with 5D’s’ soundtrack (Wall 5 Project/Yutaka Minobe; YGOseriesgenerallyhavegreatmusic, and5D’sisupthere); one of my favorites was Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation to “Light & Dark.” And then, I decided I’d try to make a consistent soundtrack for Kai using that soundtrack. It’s amazing how well it works in spots, haha.
So, enter this. As I’m only up to episode 4 (which I just finished and am adding here!), I’ll update this post as I get more done and reblog it/post the new ones separately and linking to this, so keep an eye out! Feel free to send me feedback, as I’d love to hear what people think of these, haha. I’m going by the soundtracks’ release order, spacing things out to fit the arcs, unless I feel a track in a later release fits better (saving most of SD3 Disc 1 for likely the Buu arc now that the dub’s finally a thing), and also trying to use some unreleased tracks if able. I’ll figure out a way to release the audio files; either I’ll post them here/NAC, or maybe on Kanzenshuu now that my account’s active there. Stay tuned, lol; enjoy!
(Also, the vocal audio for the Narrator on episode 3′s recap is wonky because the way I extracted the center vocal channel still kept the Yamamoto recap track there; I recreated it from the soundtrack and used some noise reduction to get as much out as I could out; hopefully I’ll get to fix that with better audio.)
“The Fortune Cup Finale! The Lone King, JACK ATLAS”/”The Fortune Cup Finale (Part 1)″
Everybody, listen!
Here’s the newest installment of this short Dub-Uncut series!
This one was actually kind of pleasant to go through; 4Kids gave it a decent dub, at least if you remove all the fluff like I did! Jack/Yusei’s backstory being mostly faithfully translated helped, and the lack of any overdone trash-talk during the duel was nice. Applying the normalizing effect to the audio that I realized I could do as I finished editing 24 did help the quality overall, too.
So, to give a quick rundown, I removed the MC’s unneeded lines over Aki leaving with Divine (I left in the Japanese audio for a second later, so there’s a hint of Japanese Yusei, but he sounds almost like dub!Yusei in that scene, so it’s hardly noticeable if you haven’t rewatched this episode hundreds of time like me lmao), Rex gets to sound a bit less cheesy (”and UNITE YOU ALL” is gone before the OP, for example), I added a dub!Jack grunt from one of the BGM-less episodes so I’d get to keep in the COCKROACH STOMP, Lazar’s a bit less snotty as he makes his debut, JACK loses his unneeded monologue as he rides away with Yusei’s D-Wheel, I timed dialogue overall to sort of overlap more with the Japanese audio (like for Yusei’s thoughts pre-duel), I recycled a line or two from dub!24′s BGM-less audio to undo some of the trash-talking (like “It’s my turn!” from Yusei; likewise, we’re still undoing Let’s Rev It Up as I use my now-stock “I Synchro-Summon/Junk Warrior” clips), and… yeah, I think that covers it all. Oh, for the preview, since JP!Yusei is using his Stardust chant and I can’t use the dub equivalent from Season 3, I used the clip of Yusei near the end of 26 as he’s about to attack with Stardust. And I used an MC line from 26′s start that I’ll be editing out anyway over where Yusei reads the title.
I ended up vocal-removing the DVD audio clip of the Speed World remix that’s played here to work with, which helped since it retained the background D-Wheel whirring to help the dub track, but I did that since the rip GoldenUmi on NAC had worked on skipped a bit or two so it was sort of unusable. It’s a real shame it wasn’t released or used more often. 😭😭😭
Lemme know what you think, folks! Going back to work on GX 41 soon (have some last bits of campaigning to help with [if you’re in New York State, PLEASE GO VOTE ON THURSDAY 9/13!]), so stay tuned!
So, I’ve been slowly working more on this! Just hit the commercial break, and as I said before, I managed to edit out the dub’s music to add on the original OST, while also editing the dialogue to play more in line with the original a bit more (meaning some lines were shortened (like with Henrietta scolding Dipper) or muted (and with scoffs/whatnot, I might recycle them in spots)) Notably, I also made Julia’s lines as Yuzu’s reaching for the Action Card fuzzy like they should’ve been. I also added other SFX as needed to make it sound a bit more natural; luckily, using a vocal remover on the DVD audio let me hold onto most of the original SFX pretty much perfectly (ambient and all, which meant I was also able to get good rips of the alternate tracks in this half/abrupt cuts to work with). Compare it with the first WIP vid I made, and you’ll see the difference, lol.
I started here since episode 10’s a personal favorite, and the dub was also surprisingly good for its first half. And this actually came out sounding pretty good! If only they could’ve officially stuck with the original music… Also, not entirely sure what I’m going for with the footage haha. I started out trying to make it an alternate dub track, then decided to keep some shots they cut (like Yuzu flying after Diamond first hits her directly) but then cut others since they were undubbed (like Sora explaining Hand Fusion, which I had no fluffed-up dialogue to add there) and fixed the music accordingly. Maybe I’ll just make it another track for the raw and just leave in the original audio… Hmm.
Lemme know what you think, haha.
(Check out my dub/sub comparison for episode 10 here!)
5D’s “Dub-Uncut” Episode 26 WIP #2: Take Flight, Stardust Dragon!
Got a bit more done! This is one of my favorite scenes, so it’s fun timing the Duel Links/no-BGM 5D’s audio to the episode under this BGM. Hoping it’s not too noticeable when the audio switches to the Japanese audio track for the SFX, but this isn’t the final mix yet; I have some more background SFX to add back, and I’ll probably tweak the levels a bit more as I look it all over once I’m done.
You’ll notice the extra bit from Yusei during the pan up Lost Star. 4Kids cut that pan out in favor of their stupid Card Interruptions, so I had to get creative; I took some audio from when he explains it in 28, then added back “Synchro Monster” from a Duel Links line, and fluffed it a bit with his line for Junk Warrior in Duel Links. Likewise, with the MC’s line at the end, since that was a commercial break in the dub and they had him break the fourth wall, I snipped in a repeat line from 24 and mashed it with his “Dragon vs Dragon” line when the commercial break’s over. I redid the line as he summons Hyper Synchron a bit because I wanted to move it a bit but the SFX originally there would have its timing be off.
Asuka continues to nurse her brother, whose memories haven’t returned. With his memories on the line, Asuka duels Titan. Titan isn’t the cheating duelist he was before–he’s become a true Dark Duelist. Titan uses a series of “Daemon Matador” Monsters and Dark Arena, a bullring of darkness, to lead Asuka into the dark and gain the upper hand. Unable to choose her attack targets, Asuka’s Cyber Blader is destroyed by his Matadors…
Here’s episode 41, folks! This is a great Asuka-focused episode, and one of the few wins for our protagonist team that weren’t earned by Judai. Asuka’s motivation to regain Fubuki’s memories for him is a good driving force for her, and that reunion at the end hits the feels~ Well, until one fateful callout… We do also get to see Cyber Blader’s other two effects in action here, which is neat.
Just one card-related fix involved with this episode, but the main time-grabber was translating the Cosplay Duel poster that shows up in episode 42 but is included in its preview during episode 41. Details below the cut. #KeyframingIsFunKids
Enjoy! If you haven’t checked it out yet, I’m also working on some “dub-uncut” episodes of 5D’s where I tweak dialogue and add back the Japanese OST for some fun; I’ll be getting started on episode 26 soon, which I’m excited for thanks to all the new 5D’s Duel Links audio I get to work with–we finally have legit translations of the summoning chants! Well, mostly. Sorry, Crow. Once 26 is done, I’ll get started on GX 42 and the fun poster-translating antics that will ensue. 😅

All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion. Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates. Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2
(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them. Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)
Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release! You can also just have their upload playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!
To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
UPDATE (10/7/18): Finalized!Episodes 1-41 now on the list! Also, it came to my attention that the links were refreshed recently, so I went through the whole list the other day to update the links here; nothing was taken down, they just updated the video IDs.
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
