  • go forward - My Singable Translation

    kaiowut99:

Oh, go forward, why didn’t you get a PV to help with some context?? D:

So, my first VRAINS translation post! I did a TV-size singable translation for this song a month or two after… 47? 48? …whatever episode they switched the OP to go forward was aired, but held off on posting it–mainly because I’d been so busy with other stuff, but also since it was getting close to the single’s release, I wanted to wait for the full lyrics.  And for someone to post the instrumental, except no one ever did, so I went and bought it myself after having Kinokuniya ship it over.  I revised my initial lyrics and then tried to adapt the rest of it, and… yeah, some parts could’ve used a PV to give me a visual idea of how to translate it, lol.

I’m pretty happy with how this turned out though, but if any super-skilled adapters are out there, feel free to use these as a base, since I know there aren’t many translations out there.  If these are good enough for some fandubbers to sing, even better! (I’ve also posted the full single–[most] scans and all–onto NeoArkCradle!).

(I’ve also adapted full With the Wind lyrics inspired by Mark de Groot’s lyrics, as well as Believe in Magic, which I’ll get around to posting sometime soon.)

    (VRAINS Translations: go forward)

(ARC-V Translations: BelieveXBelieve BURN! Future Fighters! Unleash/Hanate ARC of Smiles! Trump Card/Kirifuda Speaking Light of Hope Vision)

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 4Kids Uncut Dub Masterpost!

    kaiowut99:

    image

Update (10/2/18): ALL THE LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED! I was told the links to my subbed!GX masterpost might’ve been down when Videa.hu just refreshed the video IDs, so I thought I should update the links on this list, just in case! Please let me know if you find that the links are down, and always check the original post in case they were already fixed!

So I had these lying around and, after some discussion earlier, decided to upload them.  This is the uncut dub 4Kids produced with FUNimation way back in… *google-fu* 2004 WHOA WHAT HOLD ON TEN+ YEARS AGO?! WHAT–I MEAN HOW?! :O

*ahem* Anywho, yeah, produced back in 2004.  This dub kept the original music and OP/EN, card designs, as well as the original dialogue.  How well it was adapted is now up to you to judge. :P Some original names were also kept in spots (like Sugoroku over Solomon), while one instance sounds good in theory, but not so much in practice lol.  It only went on for nine episodes before the plug was pulled, with a fourth DVD going up to 12 already planned.  The main excuse tossed around was that 4Kids didn’t want them to compete with sales of the dub DVDs (while, while stupid, given it was 4Kids at the time…), but after looking it up on the Wikia and seeing a possible legal rights issue listed there, that seems a lot more plausible.  Especially given the contract issues with Yugi’s Seiyuu, Shunsuke Kazama, that were only recently cleared up IIRC for the Crunchyroll subs.  And since the Japanese-audio versions were on the DVDs too, it does make sense.  But who knows, maybe with the DM remaster going on, they’ll reconsider resparking the project.

And back in March 2016, I spent a few days resyncing the uncut dub’s audio to the Japanese DVD rips (Zero-Raws for 1-4, then Astral_Union’s for 5-9 since ZR had some weird frame rate issue going there).  I also tweaked the audio a bit; for one, I added back the more human-like monster sounds (Cyclops/Hitotsu-Me Giant, Crocodilus, etc) that were cut for some reason where no one was speaking over them.  And I also made the prologue about the History of Gaming consistent through all nine episodes (originally, it’d either be scripted slightly differently or had different inflections) by using the prologue as used in episode 8, which was much closer to the original’s style.  I’ll post these up for download on NAC sometime soon, so stay tuned.

But anywho, enough backstory.  Here you go, guys; enjoy!

For more uncut episodes, you can look into watching the Singapore dub; also keeps the original music and dialogue, but they use the dub names and the voices/acting (but mostly the voices) can be a bit wacky at times, DUDE! Still, they made it up to Mai VS Marik at last check, so they have that working for them.  It was up on Dailymotion, but currently only two episodes from it are up.

Also, while we’re on the topic, while Googling for the Singapore dub, I dug up this petition asking 4K and Konami to consider an uncut redub.  It was made last summer; why not try and boost it? :D (Also, we should all mention the DM remaster going on in Japan as a good excuse to do it lol)

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Episode 25 Uncut?! (Re-edited 4Kids Dub/JP OST)

    kaiowut99:

“The Fortune Cup Finale! The Lone King, JACK ATLAS”/”The Fortune Cup Finale (Part 1)″

    Everybody, listen!

Here’s the newest installment of this short Dub-Uncut series! (Check out a quick preview here of the final thing~)

So, to catch people up, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed).  Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.

This one was actually kind of pleasant to go through; 4Kids gave it a decent dub, at least if you remove all the fluff like I did! Jack/Yusei’s backstory being mostly faithfully translated helped, and the lack of any overdone trash-talk during the duel was nice.  Applying the normalizing effect to the audio that I realized I could do as I finished editing 24 did help the quality overall, too.

So, to give a quick rundown, I removed the MC’s unneeded lines over Aki leaving with Divine (I left in the Japanese audio for a second later, so there’s a hint of Japanese Yusei, but he sounds almost like dub!Yusei in that scene, so it’s hardly noticeable if you haven’t rewatched this episode hundreds of time like me lmao), Rex gets to sound a bit less cheesy (”and UNITE YOU ALL” is gone before the OP, for example), I added a dub!Jack grunt from one of the BGM-less episodes so I’d get to keep in the COCKROACH STOMP, Lazar’s a bit less snotty as he makes his debut, JACK loses his unneeded monologue as he rides away with Yusei’s D-Wheel, I timed dialogue overall to sort of overlap more with the Japanese audio (like for Yusei’s thoughts pre-duel), I recycled a line or two from dub!24′s BGM-less audio to undo some of the trash-talking (like “It’s my turn!” from Yusei; likewise, we’re still undoing Let’s Rev It Up as I use my now-stock “I Synchro-Summon/Junk Warrior” clips), and… yeah, I think that covers it all.  Oh, for the preview, since JP!Yusei is using his Stardust chant and I can’t use the dub equivalent from Season 3, I used the clip of Yusei near the end of 26 as he’s about to attack with Stardust.  And I used an MC line from 26′s start that I’ll be editing out anyway over where Yusei reads the title.

I ended up vocal-removing the DVD audio clip of the Speed World remix that’s played here to work with, which helped since it retained the background D-Wheel whirring to help the dub track, but I did that since the rip GoldenUmi on NAC had worked on skipped a bit or two so it was sort of unusable.  It’s a real shame it wasn’t released or used more often. 😭😭😭

Lemme know what you think, folks! Going back to work on GX 41 soon (have some last bits of campaigning to help with [if you’re in New York State, PLEASE GO VOTE ON THURSDAY 9/13!]), so stay tuned!

    5D’s “Dub-Uncut” Episode 25 WIP #3: A Decision Made…

Another preview! This time, it’s some of the flashback scene where Jack decides to leave Satellite with Stardust Dragon; I snipped a few bits here to cut down the video enough to avoid a copyright issue on YouTube.  Notable edit for this scene is that I’ve removed Jack’s inner monologue as he grabbed Stardust and as he sped down the tube (because why did he even have to). Having the original OST really does work wonders, though.

The whole thing’s actually done now (I just finished adding back SFX to the duel stuff and making the preview, and I’ve leveled all the audio), so I just have to work on the credits and I can get this out.  Stay tuned!

    5D’s “Dub-Uncut” Episode 25 WIP #1: THAT SCENE

Just a little preview, as I’m getting things started with uncutting dubbed!5D’s episode 25, and I couldn’t resist showing it off a bit with this clip.  I’d have tried editing Yusei’s line out, but it’s too good to leave out. [and also how would I replace the grunts’… grunts 😅] Stay tuned!

(If you’re new, the “Dub-Uncut” project is where I take the accidentally BGM-less uploads for 5D’s on the Spanish YGO channel and restore the Japanese OST, while also editing the dialogue to match the Japanese script a bit better in terms of where it happens, not so much what’s said in most cases given the rewrites.  It’s been pretty fun to work on!)

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 40 Subbed (Finalized)

    kaiowut99:

    The One With the Proposal

The Seven Stars’ next assassin is Abidos III, a boy king known as the “God of Dueling” who boasted a no-loss record in Ancient Egypt.  Judai duels with Abidos III, and Judai keeps up well in their match, asking Abidos, “You’re really bad at this, right?” Abidos experiences his first sense of resistance in a duel, as he gathers three sarcophagi on his field to summon Spirit of the Pharaoh, with four servants to fortify his defense.  But Judai also lays out the groundwork for his counterattack…

It’s episode 40! This episode’s not too bad, and we have another nod to Ancient Egypt with Abidos.  His deck is a bit underwhelming, though, as Judai and co. note, but it does help to set the stage for Judai’s first use of the HERO cards, and while they do go on to get some spread-out use through the rest of the show, I believe this is one of only two times HERO Flash!! gets used with them.  Also, where’s my post-series one-shot with Judai and Abidos guys

Not too much in the way of card fixes, though I did go and fix two card-related animation errors in some quick shots.  Details are in this little preview post I did a few days ago~

Enjoy, folks! Off to work on the next episode for my 5D’s dub-uncut project with episode 25, and then I’ll come back to work on GX 41, which gives us some much-needed Asuka/Fubuki time!

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's #24 - Uncut?! (Re-Edited 4kids Dub/JP OST)

    kaiowut99:

“Victim Sanctuary - Be the Star Engulfing Destruction! Stardust Dragon”/“Duel of the Dragons, Part 2″

Quite a bit of dialogue revision I tried to do, mainly to help smooth the errors 4Kids made in the gameplay descriptions (like borrowing from the later 28 upload to fix Yusei’s Junk Synchron goof, reducing the “under Rose Tentacles’ control” thing, and added a side-note sub to note that Akiza draws two cards, not places two cards face-down, from Magic Planter–oh, and I fixed Akiza calling Wicked Reborn the name of a mechanic that appears in the next story arc), but also to reduce the snark going between Akiza and Yusei.  I kept playing with the music to reach a good audio level, and I think I got it overall; I realized a bit too late in the game when I’d cut up all the audio that I could normalize the Official uploads’ audio to level things out better, so I applied it retroactively here–25′s rescoring should sound much better.

For the “Hopeless Battle” scene later on, I used one of the [many] fan recreations that closely matched the original, except I had to speed it up from the part just when the guitar starts to the end to match the original song.  Throughout, I also restored some SFX that were a bit too quiet in the Official upload.

In terms of timing to cut/extended footage, it wasn’t too rough, though I had to get creative when Yanagi had these added lines over a cut reaction shot from Rua and Tenpei, and recycled some crowd jeers to cut out Sayer’s extra lines near the end.  Tried to borrow SFX from the Japanese audio where I could, too–since there was no talking originally in the beginning, it was a cinch to cut out the extra-fluffy MC lines there.

Oh, also translated the OP/EN, the title card, and preview (where I also threw in the dub lines from 25 that correspond to what the Japanese lines were in it [mostly; dub!Jack (and JP Jack) doesn’t have the two years/differing paths line in the episode proper, so I had to improvise with another line there], using the MC where Yusei would’ve read the title) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel, nbd

    Crowdsourcing lyric ideas!

    This line in “Go Forward…”

永遠のAI(あい)求めて, 瞳が蠢(うごめ)く/“eien no ai motomete, hitomi ga ugomeku”/”our eyes squirm as we look for our eternal AI”

…is a nod to Ai/his squirmy eye in Yusaku’s Disk, haha.  I translated the earlier “motomete” line as “We don’t know what we have keeping us here …the search has us in a stir” (“ikiru imi wo motomete samayoi tsuzukeru”/”we keep wandering looking for our purpose to live;” I may revise “in a stir” to get the “wandering” idea across a bit better) so I want to translate this similarly.

I have “the search has our eyes distort” to rhyme-match “cut our view short” in the previous line, matching the rhyme scheme in the earlier verse, but how do I get across the “eternal AI” line in a good way lmao.  Though if I get the AI part well, I’ll revise the “short/distort” rhyme so it’s not as clunky/weird, lol.

(I was going to post up the CD tonight, but I thought it’d be better, since I’m sure it’ll get spread around, to get this singable translation done to go with it and throw in the kana/romaji lyrics lol)

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's #24 - Uncut?! (Re-Edited 4kids Dub/JP OST)

    kaiowut99:

“Victim Sanctuary - Be the Star Engulfing Destruction! Stardust Dragon”/“Duel of the Dragons, Part 2″

Let me know what you think!
