“Victim Sanctuary - Be the Star Engulfing Destruction! Stardust Dragon”/“Duel of the Dragons, Part 2″
Everybody, listen!
Here’s the newest installment of this short Dub-Uncut series! (Check out a quick preview here of the final thing~)
So, to catch people up, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (22-27)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here.
Quite a bit of dialogue revision I tried to do, mainly to help smooth the errors 4Kids made in the gameplay descriptions (like borrowing from the later 28 upload to fix Yusei’s Junk Synchron goof, reducing the “under Rose Tentacles’ control” thing, and added a side-note sub to note that Akiza draws two cards, not places two cards face-down, from Magic Planter–oh, and I fixed Akiza calling Wicked Reborn the name of a mechanic that appears in the next story arc), but also to reduce the snark going between Akiza and Yusei. I kept playing with the music to reach a good audio level, and I think I got it overall; I realized a bit too late in the game when I’d cut up all the audio that I could normalize the Official uploads’ audio to level things out better, so I applied it retroactively here–25′s rescoring should sound much better.
For the “Hopeless Battle” scene later on, I used one of the [many] fan recreations that closely matched the original, except I had to speed it up from the part just when the guitar starts to the end to match the original song. Throughout, I also restored some SFX that were a bit too quiet in the Official upload.
In terms of timing to cut/extended footage, it wasn’t too rough, though I had to get creative when Yanagi had these added lines over a cut reaction shot from Rua and Tenpei, and recycled some crowd jeers to cut out Sayer’s extra lines near the end. Tried to borrow SFX from the Japanese audio where I could, too–since there was no talking originally in the beginning, it was a cinch to cut out the extra-fluffy MC lines there.
Oh, also translated the OP/EN, the title card, and preview (where I also threw in the dub lines from 25 that correspond to what the Japanese lines were in it [mostly; dub!Jack (and JP Jack) doesn’t have the two years/differing paths line in the episode proper, so I had to improvise with another line there], using the MC where Yusei would’ve read the title) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel, nbd
All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion. Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates. Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2
(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them. Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)
Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release! You can also just have their upload playing on a muted tab while you watch my version!
To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
UPDATE (7/14/18): Finalized!Episodes 1-39 now belatedly on the list! For episodes 29-33: for a twist, given the tone shift here and the visuals of the next batch of OP/EN, I decided to use 99% and Wake Up Your Heart in only my hardsubs a bit earlier than they were used originally (episode 34) for the match in tone; I know not everyone will see it as a nice change, so I’ve also included links to the versions I did with OP/EN 1 as originally done. Both versions, as well as the DVDRips which still use OP/EN 1, are up on NAC. As of episode 34, we’re back to just 99% and WUYH.
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
5D’s #24 - Dub-Uncut Edition (Ft. Japanese OST?! WIP #1)
(I would’ve preferred to preview what I did with the Black Rose-to-Stardust summoning scenes, but these can only be so long before they’re blocked so :|)
A sneak peek at my dub-uncut edition of episode 24, currently underway; I’ve already drafted what I want the dialogue to be like and I’m recreating the OST, already past Izayoi Battle’s scene. Grabbed some dialogue from no-BGM!21 to cut out the “Let’s Rev it UP!” bit and make it closer to the Japanese script, including the “Scrap Fist!!” line from 21. I think this scene is final now, but I’ll be leveling the tracks out and reworking things a bit if I get any ideas. I’ll try to post another preview closer to completion!
(Because Don Zaloog’s Walken impression was arguably the best thing the dub did)
Judai and the others have their keys to the seven Spirit Gates stolen–and it was the doing of the five Black Scorpion Graverobbers, who’ve hidden themselves at the academy. Solving the case, Manjoume begins a duel with the Black Scorpions’ leader, Zaloog. Manjoume closes in by leveling up his Armed Dragon, but the five Black Scorpions seal it away from him. With the five’s combined attacks stripping him of 2000 LP in one turn–and putting him one attack closer to defeat–Manjoume rides it all on the Ojama Trio.
lol remember when I said I’d have this done three weekends ago
Here’s episode 39! Apologies for the delay on this one; I’d been door-knocking with a crazy congressional campaign every weekend the last few weeks and especially on Primary Day last Tuesday (you may have heard of it by now~especially if you follow me on Twitter), and between that, working my 8:30-5:30, gym/commute time, and still being terrible with sleep… Had a rougher time squeezing in the work here than I expected… 😅
But we made it! 39′s a fun episode that plays on Detective Conan a little bit in Manjoume’s detective antics (with… questionable methods), and it’s neat to see the Black Scorpions get a little airtime. Manjoume also gets a welcome duel, and we get the debut of Ojama King aka best Monster you’re just mean Yuri. Tune in next time when our protagonist battles an ancient Egyptian pharaoh with an unbeatable streak and… not-too-ridiculous hair? Do those exist??
Nothing in the way of card fixes this episode–yay!–so I just did two quick Quality of Life fixes to the footage; list below the cut.
Enjoy, folks; starting some more work on my 5D’s dub-uncut project with episode 24! Stay tuned for a little peek there. I’ll start prepping some stuff for GX 40 here/there; will shoot to have it done by mid-to-late next week, hopefully. That’s enough wiggle room right

“The Final Match - A Heart Hidden Under the Mask”/“Duel of the Dragons, Part 1”
Everybody, listen!
It’s finally done! Hence, the “dubbed uncut” version here.
To cover the audio in the recap, since Akiza’s line there in 22 was ridiculous, I recycled a line from later in 23 to start it, then went to Japanese Kodo screaming before circling back to dub!Koda screaming (I really didn’t like her line there), inserted the right 22 lines and moved the MC’s extra line as Yusei and Aki walk towards each other to be over the new “Aki won!” shot; used a Jack grunt from somewhere and recycled his “She’s a Signer!” and Lazar’s “Three down” line from 22; and used a scoff from Rex from 27. In the episode itself, I did recycle a few grunts here and there to quiet a scene that 4Kids had unnecessarily fluffed, and added back some SFX I thought were quieted a bit in this version of the audio. You’ll probably get a different feel from this version than the actual 4Kids version of the episode!
Oh, also translated the OP/EN, the title card, and preview (where I also threw in the dub lines from 24 that correspond to what the Japanese lines were in it, using the MC where Yusei would’ve read the title) to give this an actual “What if they actually did this uncut” feel, nbd
I’ll be trying to do this with the rest of the BGM-less batch, but hopefully they flub on the Season 3+ uploads so I have some Synchro chants to work with… Enjoy!

Making some good headway here!
For this one, I thought I’d show off Yusei’s Aki monologue (for a show of how I’m rearranging some dialogue over cut scenes/leaving out weird lines like “like a team or something” and whatever dub!Divine called Aki’s hairclip) and the duel starting; had to add back the reverb effect on the MC’s voice because microphone, though since the voices are mixed with the SFX, it affects the SFX too, but I don’t think it’s too noticeable (I still want to tweak it a bit so it’s not final yet).
It’s coming along nicely; currently up to Yusei summoning Turret Warrior!

A multi-millionaire named Anacis arrives at the island for a Duel of Darkness with the three Phantasm cards at stake. When they declare “Duel!” at the bottom of the sea, Anacis realizes there was a “Duel of Darkness”/”Duel in the Seas” mixup. Judai and Anacis now have a Duel in the Seas, and with the “Legendary City of Atlantis” Field Magic, Anacis’s Water-Attribute Monsters gain an edge–while Judai suffers as he stares down powerful monsters like “Orca Mega-Fortress of Water” and “Levia Dragon – Daedalus.”
Not as much of a delay with this one, is it? Here’s episode 38! Judai thinks he’s in for a painful duel, until it turns out there was a misunderstanding, so we end up with a duel in the deep blue sea! A fun episode for what it is, even if that’s probably a clever commercial for the Structure Deck that came out around its airdate. (Also, why did the dub change Shou’s argument from Judai eating his fried shrimp to sell his bed or something again)
Couple of card fixes here, as well; list below the cut. Some were a bit tougher given the watery background thing going on, and I scrapped one because of it (Judai’s Mirror Gate being sideways heading into the break), but overall, nothing too complex.
Enjoy, folks! Going to start work on 39 by this weekend; I’ll have 38 up on NAC by then, too.

5D’s 23 - Dub-Uncut Edition (Ft. Japanese OST?! WIP #1)
So… a neat little find happened where one of the official YGO channels–the Latin America one?–had uploaded the 4Kids-dubbed episodes, except that there were a few without the dub’s music–and in GX’s case, some without sound effects, too! (which led to this bit of gold by @yamimario fsejfklsdfjksdl)
5D’s 22-26 were part of it, and since I love #23, I thought I’d give restoring the Japanese OST a try first, like my project with ARC-V #10 but much cleaner. And like it, it’s becoming a dub-uncut deal where I’m tweaking the dialogue some to make it match the Japanese script more–not so much in accuracy (though in 23′s case, it helps it’s already somewhat accurately dubbed) as in timing, so people aren’t talking when they shouldn’t be.
For this part, I spliced in the respective audio from 22 to go over the quick recap (save for some of Koda’s whimpering, for which I just resorted to the Japanese version for a bit because I hate Akiza’s line there she’s so insufferable this early in the dub; also recycled a later line for “This might hurt!”), and recycled some lines from 22 over the new footage that the dub cut out here. And I’m tweaking the OST as released on the Sound Duels to recreate the soundtrack; you might hear a weird thing around where Yaeger walks out, and that’s from how they pitched-down the track there, which I tried to recreate but Vegas couldn’t make it so fine-tunedly. So far, it’s turning out great (I’m up to after the Aki/Divine scene), and this part isn’t final yet (want to see if I can get a Jack grunt or Godwin “heh” somewhere), but let me know what you think!
Can someone use their mastery of internet searching to link me the original version of this video? Just without the FFX music, but not the shorter 15s version that’s out there? Asking for a friend…
