    kaiowut99:

The One With the Yukey/Tanya Fisticuffs

    (My Subbed GX Masterpost)

tfw you finally finish finalizing an episode you wanted to finalize a month ago

Apologies for taking so long on this one, guys! It’s been a hectic month, lol.  In case you need a refresher with 36, check it out here as we continue with the aftermath of Misawa’s loss, where Tanya decides she needs another strong man–enter Judai.  It’s a neat episode thanks to Tanya’s use of Amazoness Death Arena, a Field Magic which lets them scuffle in spirit form and answer the question, “What if a fight broke out in the middle of the duel??” Poor Misawa, though. :’(

Part of the delay was squeezing in some time to work on the few fixes I had for this episode, including yet another strapping issue for our poor Burstlady.  Full list below the cut, per usual.

Enjoy, folks! I’ll finally be posting 36 with 37 on NAC tomorrow–I have to revisit 36 to reencode the preview per renaming the Death Ring to “Death Arena”–and then moving to get started with 38 as we face a freaky fishy guy.  Should be fun!

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 36 Subbed - Finalized

    kaiowut99:

The One Where Carnal Rays Are a Thing

The third assassin is an Amazoness named Tanya, and she goes for Misawa, saying that losing will turn him into her husband.  Misawa and Tanya the Amazoness duel, and Misawa uses his thoroughly calculated Science Deck and Plus and Minus-magnetized Monsters to seize the initiative in their battle.  However, Tanya’s Amazoness Deck was a surprisingly well-calculated deck, and Misawa finds himself shaken emotionally by Tanya as she asserts her interest.

Sorry for the slight delay! It would’ve been nice to finish this two Wednesdays ago given what episode this is, but oh well… 😫 Also, I meant to post this on Sunday but got distracted thanks Duel Links! So, we get our third Seven Star in Tanya, who faces a determined Misawa, and it’s not a bad duel; his Science Deck is interesting against Tanya.  I liked him calling out Tanya for being superficial, but then he ends up falling for her later, which is… well.

Only one card fix was done this time! I fixed the scene where Amazoness Holy Warrior/Paladin was summoned while Tanya had a Normal Monster card to show for her and Amazoness Swordswoman on her Disk; I Photoshop’d their proxies and threw them into her hand and her Disk, respectively, in AfterEffects, then keyframed Swordswoman so it pans out with the shot.

Enjoy, folks; working on 37 soon, where we’ll have Judai going mano-a-mano with Tanya and her carnal rays! …uh, what are those, again? 🤔

    kaiowut99:

The One Where They Go Down a Well

Manjoume’s brothers try to buy Duel Academia, and as a condition of their purchase, a duel between Manjoume Thunder and Manjoume’s brother Chousaku begins.  Manjoume has a handicap imposed on him, making it so he can’t use Monsters with 500 or more ATK, and he somehow scrapes together wimpy Monsters to make a deck.  All he can do is stall with his summoned Monsters in Defense Mode, while Chousaku wages an offensive with dragons in the 2500-ATK range.  But when the Ojama Trio are all out together, it marks the beginning of Manjoume Thunder’s counterattack…

i feel like that’s an appropriate screengrab for this episode

Here’s episode 35! Gives us an interesting premise, forcing Manjoume–someone who’s relied on a power deck thus far–to battle with weak Monsters, as his brothers decide to cut the middle man and go right to a certain cocky rich guy to buy the Academia and rule the “card game world” (yes, that is an actual line; neat cameo tho).  Also, the Ojama Trio is finally complete, and that helps Manjoume develop some more through this episode, trying to show his Brothers that he actually has grown.

Had a few card fixes and one typo fix to work in here, and I also recycled the translated “Go, Trio of Avid Bravery” shot of the three Manjoumes from episode 12 for the hardsub (thanks to @enbynoctis again for initially working the text in!); full list below the cut, as usual.

Enjoy, folks! Expect it on NAC by tomorrow.  36′ll get us into the third of our Seven Star encounters, and it’ll be an… interesting one.

All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion.  Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates.  Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!

If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2

(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them.  Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)

Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release!

To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.

UPDATE (2/11/18): Finalized!Episodes 1-35 now on the list! For episodes 29-33: for a twist, given the tone shift here and the visuals of the next batch of OP/EN, I decided to use 99% and Wake Up Your Heart in only my hardsubs a bit earlier than they were used originally (episode 34) for the match in tone; I know not everyone will see it as a nice change, so I’ve also included links to the versions I did with OP/EN 1 as originally done.  Both versions, as well as the DVDRips  which still use OP/EN 1, are up on NAC.  As of episode 34, we’re back to just 99% and WUYH.

If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P

GX 35: A Triple Threat (WIP)

aka ojamas quit making my life more of a mess but jk i love you

So, question, folks: which subbing method looks nicer to you here? I’d prefer #2, since I like to avoid having three sub lines in one scene, but then since I’d add the extra “!” to indicate there’s an extra speaker, having “… …” or “……” would look awkward in a line like:

    –Big Bro Manjoume…
    –Big Bro Manjoume… …

    vs

    –Big Bro Manjoume…
    –Big Bro Manjoume……

I’d have to use #2 here because Manjoume then speaks over them as he activates Thunder Crash, but… 😑

  • kaiowut99:

So, a while back, I’d helped Mark de Groot/JorporXx out with lyrics for a few of his upcoming covers [one of which I thought would already be out… lol], and I asked if he happened to have his vocals for Teardrop lying around.  As I’d been bored, I’ve been wanting to mash his cover with an instrumental to the TV version of the song and not the full released version, but it’d been hard to get a decent-sounding vocal rip of said TV version because of the echoes.  But since working with the DVD rips for my subbing, having access to the vob files meant I could work with cleaner audio, so I was able to work a better instrumental out.  He provided his vocals as thanks for my help, and I finally got around to trying to put it together!

The reverb from the main vocals is still mostly around, but it still works well enough with Mark’s vocals there to obscure them a little bit (though some of the instruments in the first verse were slightly removed).  I had to speed up some of his singing to match the quicker tempo in the TV-size version of the song (and when I snuck in the official instrumental, I had to speed that up too to match the pacing of the opening), so I played it alongside the original version to pick out where to do so.

I was going to just slap the video on, but to make it look a little better I’m a perfectionist, I also thought I’d do it with a cleanly translated version of this opening based on how I translate my OP/ENs (crediting Mark and Hiltonium for singing and lyrics, respectively, in the OP Theme credits; I wanted to add a little link there but lol YouTube stopped doing annotations and there’s all this newfangled end card junk I haven’t uploaded to my YouTube in a while).  The result does look nice, and ugh, Mark’s singing is phenomenal for this.

Enjoy! And go subscribe to Mark for some more of his awesome covers!

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 4Kids Uncut Dub Masterpost!

    kaiowut99:

    image

Update (7/16/17): ALL THE LINKS HAVE BEEN UPDATED! It seems Cloudy had issues with most of the MKV files I originally uploaded for this, so back in March 2016, I spent a few days resyncing the uncut dub’s audio to the Japanese DVD rips (Zero-Raws for 1-4, then Astral_Union’s for 5-9 since ZR had some weird frame rate issue going there).  I also tweaked the audio a bit; for one, I added back the more human-like monster sounds (Cyclops/Hitotsu-Me Giant, Crocodilus, etc) that were cut for some reason where no one was speaking over them.  And I also made the prologue about the History of Gaming consistent through all nine episodes (originally, it’d either be scripted slightly differently or had different inflections) by using the prologue as used in episode 8, which was much closer to the original’s style.  And today, I decided to reupload these to Videa.hu because Cloudy’s gotten a bit unreliable lately.  I’ll post these up for download on NAC sometime soon, so stay tuned.  Let me know if you find that the links are down, and always check the original post!

So I had these lying around and, after some discussion earlier, decided to upload them.  This is the uncut dub 4Kids produced with FUNimation way back in… *google-fu* 2004 WHOA WHAT HOLD ON TEN+ YEARS AGO?! WHAT–I MEAN HOW?! :O

*ahem* Anywho, yeah, produced back in 2004.  This dub kept the original music and OP/EN, card designs, as well as the original dialogue.  How well it was adapted is now up to you to judge. :P Some original names were also kept in spots (like Sugoroku over Solomon), while one instance sounds good in theory, but not so much in practice lol.  It only went on for nine episodes before the plug was pulled, with a fourth DVD going up to 12 already planned.  The main excuse tossed around was that 4Kids didn’t want them to compete with sales of the dub DVDs (while, while stupid, given it was 4Kids at the time…), but after looking it up on the Wikia and seeing a possible legal rights issue listed there, that seems a lot more plausible.  Especially given the contract issues with Yugi’s Seiyuu, Shunsuke Kazama, that were only recently cleared up IIRC for the Crunchyroll subs.  And since the Japanese-audio versions were on the DVDs too, it does make sense.  But who knows, maybe with the DM remaster going on, they’ll reconsider resparking the project.

But anywho, enough backstory.  Here you go, guys; enjoy!

For more uncut episodes, you can look into watching the Singapore dub; also keeps the original music and dialogue, but they use the dub names and the voices/acting (but mostly the voices) can be a bit wacky at times, DUDE! Still, they made it up to Mai VS Marik at last check, so they have that working for them.  It was up on Dailymotion, but currently only two episodes from it are up.

Also, while we’re on the topic, while Googling for the Singapore dub, I dug up this petition asking 4K and Konami to consider an uncut redub.  It was made last summer; why not try and boost it? :D (Also, we should all mention the DM remaster going on in Japan as a good excuse to do it lol)

    kaiowut99:

The One Where Fans Pretty Much Get Their Judai VS Kaiba Duel. And The Steam Puns Waft Away From My Head

With the last string of serious duels causing Judai to be in a funk, Winged Kuriboh guides him to set foot into the Spirit World lying beyond the Hot Springs.  There, he meets the spirit of Kaibaman, who says that his Blue-Eyes card would like to battle him.  Judai and Kaibaman begin their duel, and against his Blue-Eyes and Knight of White Dragon, Judai soon finds himself dueling seriously.  And when his Ultimate is finally summoned…

It’s episode 34! Kind of a neat one, given that this is one of the first episodes that helps Judai reconcile the idea of dueling for keeps with his idea of dueling being all for fun.  Kind of curious to know where this development went in hindsight looking at Season 3… But that scene just before Kaibaman’s last turn with Impossible Victory playing, and then his beating Judai with his three BURRRRST STREAAAAMs, were great.

Also, it’s Judai VS basically Kaiba, which is neat.  And the animation gets surprisingly good, too.

This one didn’t take too long to handle since I’d already revised the script a few months back, so I just had to set up my timing video and retime the lines, but I did pick up on a few things I wanted to fix, as well as one thing I wanted to translate for the hardsub, which I’ll mention.  List below the cut, as usual~

Enjoy, all, and happy Friday! Stay tuned for the NAC post, which’ll also have 33 since lol, I totally forgot to post it before working on 34.  I’ll be working on 35 soon; we seem to be hitting the part of GX where they’re really good about not goofing with cards, so we’ll see if that helps trim down any delays.  Looking at about a 1-2-week window to finish it, hopefully.
