i really forgot to include asuka and yusei in my post about names, huh.Anways, Asuka’s name contains the word “tomorrow”, which is why Jim calls her Tomorrow Girl.
“Yusei” means planet, and it’s part of the irl word for “planetary gear”.
Also on the name topic: It’s weird how they swapped the Godwin brothers’ names in dub. Like, it’s easiest to explain with a visual.
why are they both called roman?? i hate it here.
Lastly: the duel monkey is called SAL in Japanese (acronym for Super Animal Learning), and it’s pronounced as Saru, which is just the word for monkey xD
Actually, Rex was always Rex in both versions; Rudger was the only one who was changed into Roman (I believe Rudger calls him “Rex” a few times, too)–though we did think it was “Godwin” and not “Goodwin” for the longest until the three-on-one at the end of the DS arc that had “Goodwin” for Rex on the Scoreboard, lol. The katakana for his last name is ゴドウィン , which would be “Godwin,” while it’d be more like グドウイン for “Goodwin,” it’s possible they listed it as “Goodwin” to help the dub team, because oddly, after spending all series blanking the Scoreboard names, they kept them for 62-64 (likely because the trio’s names were the same):

Yusei Summons Shooting Quasar Dragon - Custom English Dub

So, I want to shout out yugidmx5 over on YouTube/NAC because they’ve been pumping out some fantastic content and I want to pay it forward after they helped me before with the 5D’s “Dub-Uncut” episode edits. They went ahead and used a lot of different audio–maybe like 60/40 Duel Links lines/episode audio–to stitch together an English “dub” for the scene where Yusei summons Shooting Quasar against Z-ONE and did a phenomenal job with what was available, even ENG-ifying the cards while they were at it (I’ve asked for tips and kinda want to go back to some 5D’s clips to see if I could take a crack at it).
(My one sliiight critique was that Yusei has a Quasar chant line in Duel Links, so Shooting Star’s didn’t need to be recycled, but otherwise it’s fantastic.)
Some other highlights they’ve worked on, in no chronological order:

And a few others like Yugi beating the Exodia Ghoul in DM 56, Kaiba first using Fang of Critias in DM 150, Yusei’s first Shooting Star summon VS Placido in 5D’s 109, and Dark Yugi telepathically telling Pegasus to watch his back in DM 10. It’s impressive how they get better at isolating the vocals and music/SFX to make these happen!

So I finished 5Ds last week which was a, amazing and b, objectively the best YGO series like REGARDLESS of which one is your favourite it is just…the best.
So I’m gunna try and make of these pieces for as many 5Ds characters as possible, at least I gotta try and make Crow and Jack.
