Aki Izayoi
Possibly the Tritagonist of the Series, but her role largely diminished as the Series progressed. A troubled past and unstable powers had a major impact on her earlier years.
Again, certain events and people will be used again here, to highlight the main points.
Black Rose Dragon - Her signature card, with a devastating effect to Nuke the entire Field when summoned, including itself. Illustrative of her own self-destructive behaviour during the early portion of the Series when she frequently rampaged across Neo-Domino causing destruction and mayhem, while mentally damaging herself in the process.
Divine - A severe, and extremely unhealthy emotional dependency on Divine made it easy for him to manipulate her for his own ends, which he did to the extent of implanting a mind-control programme deep into her sub-conscience. Yet at the same time, Divine was the first one to openly accept Aki as she was, something she had been desperately craving for almost a decade by the time he entered her life. This is why Aki attached herself so completely to Divine, being dependent on his instructing her on what she was to do.
Her Past - Despite being loaded with the Cliché of ill-understanding parents who simply didn’t know what to do rather than the early indication of abandonment, it still had some merit to reveal how it shaped her into what she became. The unstable nature of her power to make the Duel Monster Hologram real, perhaps augmented by the Birthmark she gained worked to keep her emotionally, and often physically separated from others. And being so young, this impacted on her mental state in a very negative way. Reaching breaking point when she saw her parents happy while she wasn’t there. While being a very minor event, she was already so deep in her own suffering that even this tiny detail was sufficient to finally make her snap.
Yusei Fudo - One of the few who could see through her mask, and see her suffering, and the first to properly try and help her. Making him the one who allowed Aki to begin the process of healing herself, and make amends with her past. Yet perhaps more due to poor writing than anything else, all Aki truly managed was to replace one emotional crutch with another one. Divine for Yusei. While still not as bad as with Divine, this says that she still has a long way to go.
