Regarding that last reblog because surprise, I still have a lot of feelings about episode 120.
tbh I didn’t really care much for Shingo or his development (or lack thereof) until the Synchro Dimension arc. And even then, even after he got Crow-sama out of that jam in the Detention Centre, I didn’t feel strongly about him either way.
But, oddly enough, when that promotional poster was released - the one with Kaiba, Edo, Jack, and Shingo on it - and people started ragging on him because “WHY IS HE THERE? IT SHOULD BE REIJI.”, I was perturbed. Reaaal perturbed. Even though I previously couldn’t have cared less about him. Like, I understand wanting Reiji to have more of a presence in the franchise, but ragging on him is not the way to do it.
When you consider what Yuya’s trying to accomplish other than end the dimensional war, Reiji is in no way, shape, or form his rival. That’s Shingo.
That post I reblogged basically sums up why he, at least, shouldn’t be cast aside, even if the writers portray it that way sometimes. But, I just wanted to throw in how incredible 120 was, not only from the Shingo standpoint, but also the Crow-sama standpoint.
I mean, yeah, Crow-sama taking the bullet (ha) for someone else is nothing new. That’s just how he is. And yeah, the class system disappeared in the Synchro Dimension by the time he got to Fusion.
But, Crow-sama, who grew up in horrible, segregated conditions, taking the hit for Shingo, who grew up in presumably more than well-off conditions, speaks volumes.
Obviously, Crow-sama didn’t have to take the hit. I mentioned that Shingo did save his life back in the Detention Centre, but he didn’t have to risk his life like that to pay him back.
But he chose to pay him back that way. Not because Shingo’s a friend of Yuya’s or that his family would be worried sick, but simply because Shingo has a lot to live for. And he sure as hell wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he let Shingo get carded.
Crow-sama saw potential in Shingo that probably nobody else on the Lancers sees right now. And that’s why he preserved Shingo’s life by giving up his.
