Hunh, well this conversation is nothing whatsoever like the original. I mean, for the most part so far the dub dialogue has been similar to what was in the original if not exactly the same but for some reason they decided to just rewrite it here. And it doesn’t really make much sense for Aster to be saying something like this either at this point. In Syrus’ flashback to when Aster showed up at their dorm room he already said that he was challenging Jaden to a duel because he heard he was the best. Jaden is also already under the impression that he’s a student at the school because he’s been calling Aster ‘freshman’ and acting like a mentor towards him, so why on earth should he need to wonder why Aster is there? He’s a student, why wouldn’t he be there?
Also, Aster is kind of a lot more arrogant that Ed was here too. Ed pretends to be polite and respectful to Judai throughout the duel even though he privately thinks very little of him at this point. Aster kind of tries to go the polite route a bit but he’s really bad at it and just gives up in favor of being snarky instead. ^^;
Aster does finally get around to mentioning destiny at the end there before he plays his trap card, but it kind of comes out of nowhere with no lead in at all. In the original, Judai and Ed had been talking about how he would need luck in order to draw another light monster that would allow him to activate his monster’s effect again and destroy Judai’s defense monster. Ed draws a Magic card instead and goes on to say that “someone” once told him that destiny and luck are two different things and that who will win and who will lose are things that are already predetermined. Judai of course objects to this because he thinks not knowing what happens next is what makes dueling fun and exciting. Ed just tells him that what happens next has already been decided which leads perfectly into him activating the trap card that he placed on the field much earlier before he discarded his hand and activated the Field Spell. Basically it just serves to highlight Ed’s point that he already had a way to destroy Judai’s monster ready and waiting and so he didn’t need the luck of the draw at all.
So basically I dunno why 4Kids suddenly decided that this was a good time to start making stuff up instead of sticking to the original script, other than to just push the idea that Aster is up to no good I guess.
Remember the time Yuya just casually dropped this into a conversation? Ed sure does. XD
Hell Kaiser and Aster really introduced season 3 part 2 like witches in Macbeth
Yuki Judai:
Judai likes to give flowers to people a lot. ^^;;;
Saiou’s reaction is still my favorite one though.
I like how everyone in the audience is shocked except for those three girls in the bottom left of that second picture. They’re just like “Woohoo! Strip tease! Take it all off!” ^^;;;
Also that girl at the railing has questions about all this.
Poor Yellow, he was so excited to be summoned and then bummed out when Manjoume just wants to sacrifice him. ^^;;;
Also that’s Silent Magician on the card there!

I LOVE HOW THE BOOK HAS THE DESTINY SYMBOL ON THE COVER TOO
Honey, everyone already knows that you’re Batman. You don’t have to try and deny it. ^^;;;
I like how he just pauses his sentence to drink his tea though.
So is Ed just buying a lot of souvenirs everywhere he goes and that’s why the luggage load keeps increasing? ^^;;;
Also does he live in Ontario? Because that’s apparently where they start from. I never would have expected that. ^^;;; Then they go over to Hawaii, across to Florida, down to Bolivia maybe, then Australia, South Korea, Japan, out in the middle of Russia somewhere, China, India, and then back to Canada. That’s certainly one heck of a world tour there.
Watching this episode just makes me want so much more to know what his life was like before season 2 started though. Like, I’m sure his schedule was probably hectic back then as well but it’s probably changed and evolved as he became more established. I’d love to see the early days and what other duelists thought about his record breaking win streak and whether any of them were jealous or thought he was cheating somehow. I want to know if any of them thought it was strange that his manager was a teenager as well. I want to see Saiou working on making connections for him and them traveling together.
…I’ll never get any of that in any way, of course, but I still want it. ;____;
