Asuka: Oh? Jim: Oh! It’s Tomorrow Girl! Asuka: Jim! And Karen, too! Jim: Haha, it’s been a while, Tomorrow Girl! You seem well! Asuka: You too. That said…. It’s been a while since I’ve heard that name. You surprised me. Jim: Haha, <sorry>, <sorry>! But it’s a wonderful English translation, isn’t it? Asuka: Um, I do think it’s original, but… Asuka: Listen, I’ve always thought about saying this to you, but… Jim: <What>? Asuka: The way you always call me Tomorrow Girl… it’s kind of embarrassing, so please stop. Jim: OOOOH NOOOOOOOOOOO! Asuka: W…what? Jim: <Sorry>… I’m just going through a <big shock> right now… Jim: You’re as headstrong as ever, Tomorrow Girl…
I wondered what their original convo was like and poor Jim lol. he just wants to call her Tomorrow Girl… heartbroken
(For context, in case anyone doesn’t know, Jim calls Asuka “Tomorrow Girl” because the “asu” in her name can translate to “tomorrow” [or “morning”]; doesn’t quite work with “Alexis” lol)
In said episode, we see a list of Kaiba Corp’s employees. Among them is whom I believe to be Kisara’s reincarnation. I mean, the name speaks for itself:
Kisaragi (如月) is the archaic name of the second month of the Lunar calendar (February), but in the literal sense, it basically means “like the moon” and the the moon is usually presented as white.
Aoi can mean “blue” in Japanese, but the character used for a given name is usually 葵 (common hollyhock); the flower in Japan symbolizes ambition, aspiration, fruitfulness and dignity (in the face of hardship), things that Kaiba respects.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but since YGO GX takes place in the YGO Duel Monsters universe (where Pegasus is alive, and Kaiba met Kisara and DIDN’T go to the underworld to duel Atem), imagine the shock Kaiba would have if he saw a young woman working for his company looking exactly like Kisara.
Unfortunately, I think it’s more likely that this is just a subtle reference to a staff member of the show 😅 Aoi Kisaragi was a Key Animator on the OP/EN videos going back to 99% in Season 1:
They also have Junnpei Ogawa on the list just before this:
An earlier scene with names disappearing also features Miho from the original YGO manga (along with Ushio and Hanasaki [of Zombyra fame]), so I’ve always taken it to be little Easter eggs, lol.
