Not only as a student and someone who has even a hint of school pride, but his words are so very particular here.
“I have to protect this academy”
It’s so blatantly obvious that his brothers are abusive to him, and not only is he at stake anymore, but now everyone who attends this Academy is. Who knows what things will be like if/when his brothers get their hands on the Academy- but it won’t be good for Manjoume, and he knows firsthand what it’s like to be under pressure and control from his brothers
It may only get worse once they’re in control here, too; it’s just another aspect of his life that they’ll turn into a perpetual hell it seems.
This seems like it was one of the few safe places for Manjoume– in the comfort of friends, away from his brothers (after breaking away from the pressure and hardships they placed on his shoulders that were quite literally crushing him), in an Academy where he gets to do one of the things he excels in: dueling. It’s only 35 episodes in, and his character has grown immensely.
episodes 24-26, and 35 have always been my favorites for this reason; you get some real insight to his character and how he operates, they blatantly show you what’s going on with him (though there was a lot to infer with previous episodes, this is outright stating his problems, and shows him confronting them head on)
