Okay but is Tumblr EFFing up on anyone else on the dash or in the tags, or is it just me? Doesn’t load images no matter how long I keep it loading :S

So I was busy for most of the week, then when I finally have time to catch up on GX 12, my laptop decides to be a lil’ shit and basically freeze upon logging in and take forever to launch anything… Spent the weekend scanning in safe mode, using CCleaner, etc. Aaaand I think we’re back to normal now. HOPEFULLY it’ll be done by the end of the week, lol.

AAAAAaaannnnddd I’m back. And I get the strange feeling not a lot of people on my dash did the #updateboycott thing, lol. I’ve also pretty much finished re-finalizing my current S1 GX hardsubs; I’ll reblog the updated masterpost tomorrow morning once I have 11 fixed. Then I can finally get back to working on 12!

So I reblogged the post about it earlier, but to put it out there, I’ll be keeping my blog as dormant as the darkness inside Yuya between now and 12am tomorrow to help protest the new update Tumblr unfortunately decided to roll out last week; the queue I usually have going will be “paused” for the day. I mean, sure, this boycott might not amount to much, but hey, if it’d help and turns out to do the trick, may as well! I’ll be stuck at work most of the day anyway, so it shouldn’t be too out of place lol. (And I’m also still working on all my GX reencodes so I’ll have less distraction)

So, as I’ve said before, I’ve been meaning to look into accepting donations and translation commissions to help pay for my student loans (I pay $256/month from the federal side, ~$50/month for my campus loan), bills my parents are making me chip in for in exchange for NO RENT (just elec and cable, but it’s $360/month), and other miscellaneous costs that might crop up while I try to put more of my paychecks towards getting to move out (currently working a $15/hr temp job that’s set to wrap up in August; planning to ramp up my job search). I live in the Bronx here in NYC–have for the last three years since returning from my undergrad in Albany–and I’ve been itching to get myself into an apartment with people my age in a better area for a while. But having to use my paychecks mostly on those bills and to catch up on loan payments doesn’t really leave me much room to work with.
To that end, I’ve finally gotten around to adding a Paypal “Donate” button to my blog, so if I’ve helped you enjoy GX through my translations all these years, see what the differences are between Japanese and English 5D’s (still ongoing as I restore my comparisons lol), or you just enjoy seeing me on your dash, and you have some money to offer, it’d be a great help; if not, even a signal boost would be great! Like I said, I’m willing to work on some translation commissions too; I can translate some songs (examples here), some manga scans, maaaybe even an episode of a show you like? I’m also open to trying to mix for you if you have any audio projects you’re working on, like fandubs or the like (I’m currently working on rescoring DBZKai’s dub with YGO!5D’s music [currently on episode 3], and I also rescored Bonds Beyond Time with a more series-inclusive soundtrack). I could also try what-ifs (example: a DBZKai episode or clip with ARC-V music), depending lol. I don’t know what good rates are for all that, though, so if you happen to know what someone who’s offered the same charged, let me know and I could work off of that!
But yeah, having some side money to handle my loans/bills would definitely be a big help for the time being. :)

Situation update: last week, I started up a new job at a cool company, and it’s a salary job! $30,000/yr which should definitely be a huge boost; catch is, my first paycheck won’t come in until the 15th, and my brief stint of unemployment’s left me pretty broke to try and last ‘til then; I’ve already borrowed $80 from my dad that I’ll be paying back once I’m paid, mostly used to cover my phone bill and Metrocard, and make sure my bank account doesn’t get overdrawn. Luckily, I’ve got a forbearance on loans still going, so that front’s good for now, but I’ll still have our cable and elec bill to pay once I’m paid. And I don’t know if he’ll be able to keep spotting me, so while I’m sure it’ll balance out in 2-4 paychecks, having some extra cash would be an immense help for the immediate future, if you’re able to donate or just make me translate something haha.

Yo guys, just wanted to repost this link in a newer post (thanks to everyone who reblogged my original post and follow-up for it) so more people would be aware of this petition.
As most GX and 5D’s fans know, a lot of music from the Japanese versions of those shows went unreleased, despite two (for GX; 3 for 5D’s, two of which were 2-CD releases) Sound Duel soundtracks, and they were a lot of the good ones. In GX’s case, there was an incredibly huge delay with Sound Duel 2’s release, and in that time, we basically got two CDs’ worth of new music during the Seven Stars/Shadow Riders arc and Season 2 (notably A Powerful Threat, All-Out Duel, Reconciliation, Camula’s Theme, Saiou’s Theme, Standstill, Enjoying the Duel and a few here), as well as Season 3 (notably A Strong Force, Johan’s Theme and his Gem Beasts’ Theme); none of the new tracks during the former were released, and most of the Season 3 songs were released with tracks from Season 4 on Sound Duel 2 when it did come out. Also of note: Sound Duel 2’s only TV-Size OP/EN were Precious Time and Endless Dream (while 5D’s had all of its TV-size OP/ENs released). I’d say that leaves 60% or so of GX’s soundtrack unreleased.
With 5D’s, while maybe 80% of the soundtrack was released, there were 10-15 tracks during the Fortune Cup/Dark Signers arcs that weren’t released yet they were used during memorable moments (among them JACK Battle 2, Yusei’s original battle theme, Hopeless Battle, and Lamentation), and the WRGP/Ark Cradle arc saw another 15 or so go unreleased (like this remixed Speed World, Sherry Battle, and Tactics). A smaller pool of unreleased stuff compared to GX, but it still would be nice to have them in perfect quality.
Sure, ripping the tracks is a solution, but unfortunately, it can be hard to keep a lot of what defines the tracks intact, and it wouldn’t be the same as listening to it during an episode (example here).
Thing is, I started this petition back in October, and there are only 60-ish signatures! The goal’s set at the default 1000 on the site, but I suppose more realistically, getting 200 might be a good start (right?). Now, this is the YGO fandom, and I know there are a bunch of GX/5D’s fans who liked/loved the series and a lot of the music that didn’t get released. There were also a lot of ZeXal fans out there who were pleasantly surprised when an unexpected Sound Duel 5 was announced, made thanks to fan outcry:

“Many of you voiced your wishes for CDs of the soundtracks that went unreleased even after [ZeXal]’s broadcast concluded, and that led us to this next release.”
It came out a few weeks back and put a huge dent in ZeXal’s “unreleased music” list. Getting the same done for GX and 5D’s (but especially GX since it has a ton more) would be great, and is the general goal here. I mean, YGO series in general have awesome soundtracks, and it’d be nice to appreciate GX’s and 5D’s in full. GX especially has a great pitch going for it: this year was its 10th Anniversary!
If fans’ voices helped ZeXal, it can help GX and 5D’s. If you’ve already signed, thanks so much! If not, well, help us out, fandom! It only takes a minute or two to sign. We can do it!

Just watched Crunchyroll’s GX 2 subs, and again, decent translations mostly, just awkward wording in a few spots. Notably, “99% of duels are decided by intellect”>”A duel’s outcome is settled with 99%…” as I had it, and “In accordance with ante rules”

They also had Asuka use “hazing” re: Judai’s taste of Obelisk Blue, which kinda works in context, I guess. They don’t actually use “sir” with Manjoume-san every time, and aniki was “big bro” the first time it was said before it became “Bro”, so minor consistency issue there. Shou’s “Bro, that’s very unlikely” struck me as an odd line for Shou (that “words they probably wouldn’t use” thing I had with 5D’s’ subs strikes again).

I’ll try episode 3 at some point later.

Phew, finally finished working on 11′s script! Just need to finalize some visual edits from prismatic-bell and we’ll be good to go. Crunchy rolled out their 1-12 subs last night, and I do plan to keep my subs going since I want to update my translations and everything. I’ll make a post about the quality at some point soon.

Do wonder if they’ve worked with fansubbers before, though; I’d actually be willing to offer them my scripts to work from lol.
