Wanted to stop my usual scheduled bullshit to thank the MVP @kaiowut99 for all the subbing work he has put in on GX. Thanks for giving me and so many other beautiful memories with this series. You’ve touched a lot of lives, man!

You’re very welcome! I can’t believe how long it’s been but it’s been a labor of love, and it’s always nice hearing and seeing folks liveblog or share their thoughts on the show with my subs helping them (and shoutout to the folks kind enough to help with some editing here/there to make that smoother). If I’ve helped even one person get into GX ~~enough to start feeling the pain come Season 3 and the light of hope at the end~~ and start giving more spinoffs a chance, or–taking a page from Yusei–helping folks form bonds with others over it, it makes the time worth it. :)

Lol, yeah, I’ve heard that it’s supposed to be a darker and grittier atmosphere overall which is why I’m not feeling particularly enthusiastic about starting it right now. I’m rather tired of darkness. ^^;;;
I just, skipped right to Zexal and came back to 5D’s later (uhh, during the Synchro arc of A5 b/c I wanted to catch those sweet 5D’s references lol). Zexal is it’s own continuity so you don’t need to worry about watching any of the previous things to understand it (and heck since you watched a5 already you’re already a step ahead in understanding XYZ summoning).
Zexal is, for the most part, considerably more light hearted in tone.
Though a fair warning, if you want subs for Zexal you’re going to need to find somewhere with fansubs cause, official ones do not exist for whatever reason. Not even on Crunchyroll, which has subs for everything else from DM to VRAINS (so it has 5D’s subs). It only has the dub of Zexal.
Weirdly enough, I actually do have Zexal subs on my computer up to episode 73 at least. I have no idea how many episodes are in the series total but I’ll have to look. Someone contacted me years ago back when I was still doing DM and told me where to get them. ^^;;;
And even though I’ve obviously broken the order for shows before, I at least want to try to stay in order when I can even if it doesn’t matter all that much. I’ll just watch some Sevens episodes and I’ll be alright. XD
I’m not sure about the quality of the Zexal fansubs mainly because I remember multiple different fansub groups working on it during the series’ run. Some fangroups do a really solid job, while others have more questionable translations. I imagine that Crunchyroll will eventually sub the series, but it is strange that it hasn’t happened yet. As far as I know, there shouldn’t be any legal problems with subbing the series like there was with DM. Maybe they’re saving it for after they finally wrap up the DM subs before doing it. They’re up to episode two hundred the last time I checked and they’re probably not going to do anything with Sevens until it comes back from its hiatus, so they might as well get legal subs for all of the completed series available on their site.
Crunchyroll does have all of 5D’s subbed, but I don’t know if you want to rely on that or check out what fansubs are available.

Yeah, iirc GX_ST was the main group fansubbing ZeXal, and those might be the best out there. I’m actually surprised Crunchyroll hasn’t worked on ZeXal yet since iirc the first 29 episodes subbed by 4K are still up on their Hulu page or the YGO site… Maybe they’ll get to it once DM’s wrapped up in the next while, since Sevens is on hiatus for a bit lol.

With 5D’s, well… that turned into a bit of a clusterbomb. Horoko/TNKP’s fansubs are the best for 1-78, then GX_ST mainly took it from there, but there’s a huge stretch of Shin-Paku subs in there too which were, uh, pretty iffy in quality, before GX_ST ran away with it from about the 120s through the end of the series. Crunchyroll’s subs are serviceable, but they feel pretty bland and stiff to me. I think KissAnime has TnKP available for that stretch, and they may have GX_ST’s for the rest, but I’m not totally sure.

Let’s take a positivity break!

Life is scary right now, but there’s also still a lot to love, and we could use the reminder.
I’ll start the ball rolling with the weather. I’m in Phoenix and it’s that perfect not-too-hot-not-too-cold-gentle-breeze kind of day. I’m currently finding an excuse to stand outside my job for five minutes to enjoy it!
I sat outside too. It was a gorgeous day today, high of 65°F with actual sun for once! lol And I reworked the first chapter of In The Garden and I’m pretty pleased with it. I’ve really missed playing in the Ineffable Bastards Universe so it was good to be back there after a 3 week drought.
I wrote a five page e-mail to my boss with suggestions about how we could be better utilizing social media and other digital presence options to keep business going as much as possible during the plague. I have zero actual involvement with that side of the business, but my boss asked, so!
I found an Aloe Plant to take home and had the spoons to make bread, yogurt, and CLEAN! What a day! I’m with @prismatic-bell on the weather in Phoenix being lovely right now too!

I started doodling with an eagle as the subject first, looking at the picture/image of a golden eagle before doodling 2 butterflies.
I finished up making a batch of red bean buns! They’re sitting on the cooling rack atm so I’ll let you know later how they taste.
We had a bunch of red bean paste (b/c it is *very* easy to make a lot of) so I looked up a recipe to use up some of it (b/c mochi uses up surprisingly little).

The red bean buns. Soft and fluffy this time, unlike the first time I tried to make them (they came out very dense).
Tastes good.
I made a dress, and I also watched the first episode of an anime i’ve been waiting for for months now and it was everything i wanted!

I finally got the baking soda I needed to whip up some whole-wheat banana (and slightly protein-powder-packed) pancakes based off a friend’s cookbook recipe, which I hadn’t used in months

Paired it with some eggs and a cup of wine for a #BreakfastForDinner with an episode of Dragon Ball Kai Recut~ ~~since no streaming site apparently has the new YGO Sevens up welp~~

I love it when GX hits me with a piercing damage explanation that only mentions the attacking Monster’s ATK 🙃

Does anyone else happen to use Tumblr in Incognito Mode? I do because I’m logged into my main blog in my main Chrome window, but while I’m logged in here in IM, it now looks like New XKit only shows up in my Activity screen. None of my tweaks or New XKit itself show up on the dash, so I’m stuck using *gulp* regular Tumblr… And @new-xkit-extension hasn’t updated in months apparently 😭

Helps that they didn’t see fit to capitalize “Light of Destruction” since it’s the actual term for the entity in question (”hametsu no hikari”), while in screenshot #1, he’s talking about a more general evil light with a more one-off descriptor (”aku no hikari”) but 🙃

So, this error happened in the TV airing of the episode in Japan, but was fixed on the DVD. Crunchyroll (which I’m assuming is where this was capped?), which usually uses the fixed DVD masters, happened to use the aired-on-TV masters for some episodes, hence this ended up on their subbed video.

Meanwhile, the dub almost always works with the final DVD master, but for some reason they didn’t have it available here, and we know how infamous 4Kids staff were/are (some of them now working under 4KMedia) for not knowing their source material (in YGO’s case, with how bad they were at explaining card effects until about 5D’s Season 3…), so it wasn’t looked over and fixed:

(Incidentally, that dynamic was in play back in GX–for example, near the end of GX 139, Jim Cook knocks Supreme King Judai/Jaden [sitting at 3200 LP] down 1350 points–but if you only saw the TV airing in Japan, you’d be confused about why he landed at 1950 and not 1850! Judai was left at 1950 there, and then in 140, a Monster Jim summoned (Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo) was given 100 extra ATK to take that extra 100 out of the King’s LP and make things right. When these were put out on DVD, they fixed the error in 139, then Jim’s Monster had its regular ATK in 140; the dub then went on to use these masters for their dubs of the episodes. It is nice to think that 4Kids happened to fix these, but given their record, makes more sense they just used the DVD masters haha.)

Howdy, everyone! Wanted to take a quick second to wish you all a great Turkey Day, and hopefully it’s filled with a satisfying meal and a good night with friends and family and card games if they happen. :) If anyone out there is unfortunately not in the best of conditions to do so, I do hope things get better. And if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, hope you enjoy your Thursday!

Thankful to all of you who’ve stuck around on my blog for all these years, and recently have stuck around despite my occasional lack of activity while I’ve been distracted elsewhere ~~in the rabbit hole of [electoral] politics [#feelthebern]~~. I’ve still been working on my finalized GX subs, and figured I’ll take some time here to refresh folks on where things are~ (Also, friendly reminder of my GX Sub Stream Masterpost~)

So, in case you missed it, I finished GX 47 a few weeks ago and shared it here. I’ve since finished 48, but I’m working to make it a double-release with 49 since it’s the Judai VS Kagemaru duel to cap off the Seven Stars arc. The delay there has mainly been some of the animation fixes I wanted to do, which took a bit longer because of work or different events and volunteer canvasses I’ve been dabbling in taking up time. I did just finish up 49′s card fixes (I did a fix for Burstlady’s strap as I worked on 48), so hopefully I’ll have 49 done in the next week before I head up to NH next weekend~

Once I release 48 and 49, I’ll take a slight break to get back to the 5D’s Dub-Uncuts for a quick change of pace; revisiting episode 23 is next on the docket, and being able to add stuff from Duel Links should give it a good tune-up (*brick’d*) while being able to re-edit it to be consistent with how I did 21-22 now that I have a groove there. I’ll probably just work on it ‘til the commercial break to work on GX 50, and then try to finish it up after before trying another GX double-release with our Season 1 finale in Judai VS Ryou II. Hopefully I’ll have Season 1 fully finalized by January, but fingers crossed…

When I do finish Season 1, I’ll likely try to revise the rest of the 5D’s Dub-Uncuts first and “finalize” 21-26, then I’ll start prepping stuff for Season 2 and start tackling 5D’s 27-29. Once I get the Dub-Uncuts done, I’ll be trying to finally work on my 5D’s comparisons in between the GX episodes again; would sure be nice to find a permanent home for them…

Anyway, that should sum things up well, but we’ll see how much I hold to these plans as campaign season starts to pick up a bit lol. Enjoy your holiday, and stay tuned for updates!

But yes, “aide de camp” or whatever they used was way too obscure for no reason; “right-hand man” gets it across easily and makes Johan’s exasperated reaction make sense since, well, *everyone* should know what a right-hand man is, lol. I get if they were trying to be unique with Johan since EUROPEAN but then he wouldn’t be surprised when Judai’s in the dark.

I did slightly revise this line in my more recent translations, if only for a bit more comedic effect by splitting the line, lol:

So is anyone going to be getting the “Calling” single and showing off the instrumental soon or will I have to do the thing again like with Go Forward 😅
