Hey!
So, I’ve slowly been working on this project in between my fansubbing YGO GX; Dragon Ball is sorta my secondary fandom–though I’m less active in it, I’ll occasionally reblog a thing or two here–and the Kai dub has been insanely fun to watch. However, a lot of fans likely know how Kai’s composer, Kenji Yamamoto, was canned over a music scandal where a lot of his tracks were plagiarized–three episodes away from ending after Cell. Toei rushed to replace his tracks with Z Kikuchi stuff, then went back to the rest of the series, which wouldn’t be a bad thing–if they used more tracks to work with. I loved the Yamamoto score despite that, and while I like the Kikuchi score, I felt the music gets repetitive too easily given the limited tracklist. (Also, a Cell arc theme playing in the Saiyan arc wut)
Now, I love consistency (as anyone who knows how I go about subbing knows), and I’m also a big YGO fan. Way back, I got the idea to time the vocal tracks for clips with 5D’s’ soundtrack (Wall 5 Project/Yutaka Minobe; YGO series generally have great music, and 5D’s is up there); one of my favorites was Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation to “Light & Dark.” And then, I decided I’d try to make a consistent soundtrack for Kai using that soundtrack. It’s amazing how well it works in spots, haha.
So, enter this. As I’m only up to episode 4 (which I just finished and am adding here!), I’ll update this post as I get more done and reblog it/post the new ones separately and linking to this, so keep an eye out! Feel free to send me feedback, as I’d love to hear what people think of these, haha. I’m going by the soundtracks’ release order, spacing things out to fit the arcs, unless I feel a track in a later release fits better (saving most of SD3 Disc 1 for likely the Buu arc now that the dub’s finally a thing), and also trying to use some unreleased tracks if able. I’ll figure out a way to release the audio files; either I’ll post them here/NAC, or maybe on Kanzenshuu now that my account’s active there. Stay tuned, lol; enjoy!
(Also, the vocal audio for the Narrator on episode 3′s recap is wonky because the way I extracted the center vocal channel still kept the Yamamoto recap track there; I recreated it from the soundtrack and used some noise reduction to get as much out as I could out; hopefully I’ll get to fix that with better audio.)
Ayyyy, I finally got these reuploaded, and I just added episode 4! I’d love it if people checked this out and let me know their thoughts; I figure it using 5D’s music should appeal to my YGO followers, lol.
Second anime episode, eighth podcast episode and first vrains episode! I join with Cheesedude and @kaiowut99 to ramble about VRAINS.
coming back to Tumblr to see they gave the activity page a weird update like

Thanks to @yusei-fudo for my first bit of official YGO merch! and the drawing aww
(Well, technically the Chaos/Orichalcos Duel Disk is one, so second bit, I suppose)
Love the cute little Yusei keychain, but now I’m torn between using it and the shirtless Yusei one…
I really love the mat, though–I love the cast of 5D’s so much. But let’s take a sec to appreciate that they included the Ruka shot from the OZONE ED, but it’s from the good version that lasted only one episode and not nightmare!Ruka from the bad one that lasted for ~40 episodes. #mildlyinteresting
I was going to make that video but every JoJo was going to be “Playmaker” from whoever said it in episode 1 but lol effort
Took long enough, but there’s now a witty VRAINS link on my blog’s header links~
mfw work reminds me of a thing

???
I feel like this is a mistranslation or the subber missed a word(or two).
Like, I’m pretty sure it should be ‘longing for the suffering to end’(but I would need to double check).
On that note, since it looks like you’re on kissanime, they haven’t bothered to get lance’s (aka @kaiowut99) updated/accurate subs. If you want more accurate subs(and nicer looking videos), here you go.he followed up saying “because the end will be much worse” something something, but possibly
*crashes through the window with Starbucks*
So yeah, that was a result of clunky translation (which is funny because I based episode 5′s script originally on Horoko at Tatsu no Kiba’s script, and he’s pretty good), which I gave a good revision to in my finalized subs (linked to by @authoratmidnight)

But yes, I recommend viewing my subs through that masterpost because not only are my finalized subs going there, but there’s also my revised Season 3 subs that Kissanime has yet to add! They still have my ancient, just-starting-out-with-summaries subs, which my newer subs blow out of the water. :)
*started watching 146 at… 11:30 or so*
*it’s now 2:30*
I didn’t expect to take that long while liveblogging/tweeting haha
What kind of series name is VRAINS lol
Can someone clear this up for me?
The subs and translated scripts, translate Raging Dragon’s full name as:
‘The Supreme King Violent Dragon, Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon!’
But on the wiki they have it as:
‘Supreme King Blazing Dragon, Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon!’
‘Blazing’ and ‘violent’ are two different things.
Which one is right??
Technically, they both are! The kanji in question, 烈 (”retsu” here), has meanings for “violent, ardent, intense, furious, etc,” and is also part of the word 烈しい (”hageshii”, meaning the same). But it also gets used in words like 烈火 (”rekka”) and 烈日 (”retsujitsu”), which translate to “raging fire” and “blazing/scorching sun or hot day” respectively. *closes dictionary tab*
“Blazing” or “scorching” obviously have a “violent/intense” tone to them, so it’s likely a case of someone seeing OERagingD has flaming wings or attacks with flames and thinking “It’s ‘violent’ but it’s also ‘blazing’…” And in that light, I think I’d use “blazing” for it too.
of course Konami doesn’t help by completely gutting that part of the name and the connection to Zarc but
So yeah, got back from watching DSoD, and first and foremost, let me just tell you, the animation was stunning. Aside from a few lolquality shots, but more on that later haha. Spoilers below–I repeat, SPOILERS–(and given this is the dub, I’ll be using the dub names; expect an update with the originals whenever I get to see JP!DSod):

HEY YUGIOH FANDOM (ALL SERIES)
What do YOU want to see yugioh in the US do?I may be able to forward your responses to someone who can listen and take YOUR opinion into account and we could see changes faster as a result, but I need YOUR input! This person has said that 4K has tried to listen to fans over the last few years and now they are in a position to help expand the brand/ a.k.a WE CAN GET NEW STUFF
If you haven’t noticed 4K has made quite a few positive steps to address fandom needs such as:
1. having the whole/most yugioh series on netflix, crunchyroll, etc
2. More advertising (outside of TCG)
3. fully voicing Duel Links
4. Bringing the voice actors to premiere YGO TCG events
5. Bringing Takahashi to SDCC 2015/WCS 2016
6. Merch (i.e. ygo monopoly) etc
7. Bringing ygo series to DVD
So please reply/reblog with your response!!
examples:
- more interaction with the fan community (encourage cosplay?)
- new art assets for merch
- simulcast ARCV/Next yugioh series with Japan via streaming service (i.e. crunchyroll) and/or broadcast dub consistently on television
- “IRL (in real life) duel disks with actual VR when”
- Working with anime conventions to perhaps bring staff/crew/cast (JP or EN) more non-TCG presence (the ads at AnimeExpo were nice and booth at San Diego Comic Con)
Reblog/share with other fans/friends you know! There is no deadline but the faster i get responses the faster I can compile them to send them off!
- Please please PLEASE REVISIT DOING UNCUT DUBS! Of both series past and series going forward. I and many other people in the fandub enjoyed the uncut DM episodes that were made back in… *checks masterpost* 2004–OH MY GOD–and with the cast back in action thanks to the Dark Side of Dimensions movie, it’d be a perfect time to revisit and treat the classic series well. Same for GX and 5D’s, but those would arguably need redubs the most, especially given their last arcs were never dubbed. ZeXal and ARC-V as well, of course; the latter since the original music is one of the biggest draws to the show, and without it the English dub as-is feels stale. Bonus points if it can get simulredubbed, if that’s a thing. For future series, pulling a FUNimation and dubbing for an uncut release FIRST would be the way to go, because then not only can they edit/record extra lines for TV as needed, but we get the uncut DUAL-AUDIO product on DVD, they can put up both edited and unedited versions on their website or Crunchyroll, and everyone wins. This is probably my biggest want.
- Addendum to this, but assuming uncuts were a go, I think in many cases reprising the dub VAs would work excellently (I know I’d want Mark Thompson back as Kiryu in 5D’s or Matt Shipman back as Shun in ARC-V), but for the less stellar choices originally made, maybe consider someone who gets the spirit of the original character better? Thinking how Chris Sabat sought to handle casting/directing for Dragon Ball Kai to fix the bad choices they made in the original DBZ dub.
- Try to commission a better remaster of the DM series, if at all possible. Or better yet, A REDOING of DM that makes it FOLLOW THE MANGA. Otherwise, I’d take a co-commission for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Kai that streamlines things more without the filler and a more accurate dub. That’s what we expected the current remaster in Japan to be, but it’s been sorely disappointing to see that it’s nothing but a crop job.
- #1 kind of covers this, but please try to stick to the original dialogue, unless there are untranslatable puns (*cough*bananadork*cough*), ease up on the trash talking if it wasn’t originally there, and keep personalities intact. Admittedly ARC-V’s dub has overall done a better job of this, but then we get things like near the end of Synchro where Sora’s being snotty towards Moon Shadow for no reason. Also, MORE CONSISTENT TRANSLATIONS. My biggest irk with the ARC-V dub is how the Action Duel chant was handled, from getting 80% adapted to being completely rewritten each time. By doing that, you lose a lot of the charm the original gives the viewer.
- Work with TV Tokyo/NAS/Marvelous Entertainment/whoever to either use or distribute the show soundtracks here in the US. Bonus points for commissioning the unreleased music from the Japanese versions of the series for release.
- Try to put on more non-TCG advertising for the brand. I wish we had Japan-level advertising going on here, but of course the previous dubs gave YGO this stigma that uncut dubs would be helpful in tossing aside, and once that interest gets vested back in, who knows, it could hit Pokemon levels of popularity.
- More merch from the shows would be great, like Reiji’s glasses from ARC-V.
- It’d be nice if they could revisit the Tag Force games and actually provide voiceover for those, but I’d take Tag Force Special getting voiced if it’s at all possible. I do appreciate them finally giving us a voiced YGO product in Duel Links.
- Chiming in for simulcasting for the next YGO series to avoid the more questionable speedsubs. Bonus if we get ARC-V before it’s over.
- Always here for more fan interaction!
- Duel Disks with actual VR IRL when
I… think that’s all for me? Though I’m sure others have said some of the same. I’d also like to thank them for the strides they’ve taken to help the fandom by finally getting much of the [dub] franchise on DVD, finally giving us legal subs for most of the franchise, and all the other things like voicing for Duel Links, bringing Takahashi over, having the VAs do these events… With DSOD’s release, this is an interesting time for the fandom, and if they do take to heart what a lot of us have to say going forward, it could make for a very bright YGO future ahead.
Actually, I just thought of something:
12. Can any future DVD releases be in 5.1 audio along with the usual Stereo sound? If FUNi can do it with their DBZ Kai and other releases, surely 4K/Cinedigm can do it with the YGO releases.

TELL ME ABOUT IT 😧
Using Windows 7, bc 10 always still seemed a bit buggy coming off 8. I’ve tried LKGC a bunch of times and nothing, I get to the “lol you shut off windows manually” screen and either Start Windows Normally hangs on the logo, or the Safe Modes eventually get to the black screen with the cursor.
My guess is the boot sector’s corrupted, which this EasyRE Recovery thing confirmed, but at the very least I can read my files through it! Going to try moving everything, then formatting. Oh boy.
Yeah, that sounds like a boot sector to me too. D= OUCH. You have all my sympathy, Kaio! Reformatting always takes forever, ugh. Wonder what did it or if it was just an act of tech god…
(ALSO CAN CONFIRM 8-TO-10 FOR BUG RIDDLED MESS OH MY GOD I DID IT ON MY WORK PC AND IT HAS BEEN LAGGY AF. Granted that pc is also so low end it could be a butthole but still…)
Either way I wish you luck and hope the move+format goes successfully!
EDIT: I FORGOT WIN7 ACTUALLY HAS A TOOL FOR FIXING CORRUPTED BOOT SECTORS. If you have a WIN7 disc you might be able to use it, here’s the MS article. Good luck! (If you can back up your stuff, do so, just for safety!)
@kaiowut99 <- tagging to be sure you see the edit bc might have something helpful!
Thank you for all your sympathy! It’s such a headache D: (Also, call me Lance(99) haha) I don’t even know, it gave me a BSOD while I was doing some video editing (last one I’d gotten must’ve been ages ago) and then instantly restarted but gave me this booting issue. Hanging at the Starting Windows screen, or if I let it stay it’ll go to the black screen with cursor before Windows would start up, if I have it Start Windows Normally or do any Safe Mode, and moving the disc drive up in BIOS doesn’t help it move past the cursor on the W7 DVD. ARGHHH
I was able to see files through that EasyRE Recovery boot CD so things are intact, but any attempts at repair–which it’s good at–met with failure at the corrupted boot section, so we’ll see. Moving and formatting may be what’s left though.
RE: Edit, yeah that might work, except it won’t even let me boot into the Recovery Environment to be able to run any recovery tools, whether it’s on my Windows drive or through the DVD.
