Aww, Mai is so excited about getting the chance to see Jounouchi again.

Suddenly 5D’s.
I just really love this speech. I can’t think of anything to say at the moment because my brain is broken, but it’s just really beautiful and heartfelt and true.
Just a reminder that Mai is an awesome duelist. Yes, Yami isn’t actually dueling at his best at the moment but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a pretty fearsome combo she’s assembled. She put a lot of thought into coming up with this strategy and even after he finally sorts out his issues Yami still has to work pretty hard to overcome it.
This makes so much more sense than what the dub chose to do. I think the dub’s idea of Yugi still not entirely trusting Yami wasn’t a bad one, but it just didn’t make any sense in regards to the animation. If Yugi didn’t trust him enough to duel, then why on earth would he have let Yami take control of his body for the duel? Even with the way the dub usually does the voices when they duel, it just doesn’t work at all imo.
Here though, it makes sense that Yami is under an enormous amount of pressure because he now has three souls to rescue instead of just one and so of course he’s already thinking forward to fighting Pegasus. The fact that Pegasus is sitting right there certainly isn’t helping matters any, which I suspect is exactly the reason why Pegasus chose to watch the duel from there instead of in private via monitor. So Yami isn’t even focusing on the duel at hand and Mai is right to call him on it. She knows he’s going to lose horribly if he keeps this up and she doesn’t want to see it happen that way because she knows he’s better than this.
Mai never won a duel?
then how did she end up with 16 star chips
enough to pay back Yugi’s favor with interest, and getting him back in the game after his shaky loss to Kaiba
“but she’s never won a duel on screen”
There.
Shut up.
I mean this is ignoring how her winning has nothing to do with her character arc, which was about taking a loss and learning from it.
Nah, weak, unimportant character with no input on the plot
Don’t you hate it when a well-rounded character is eroded down to just one facet? And when I say facet I mean appearance.
Repeat after me: Mai is a complex, many-sided character who is more than just legs and a cleavage.

❝My fighting spirit doesn’t break that easily!❞
Battle City, Round 2 ⋮ Mai Kujaku kicking ass and taking names
Mai’s so gorgeous in this episode, and her body language is amazing.
Her episodes in Doma hurt to watch, because her trauma feels so real to me.
You did say you wanted to win, did you not, Mai Kujaku?
