It seriously broke my heart that Reiji’s speech pattern goes back and forth this episode.

Normally, Reiji calls himself as “Watashi” but he wasn’t always like that. It’s revealed in the episode where he meets Yusho that he decided to call himself watashi the moment when he decided to fight against his father.

Before that he called himself “boku”(little kids call themselves as boku a lot)

And he usually calls Himika, his mother as “Ka-sama”(mother) extreme formal speech pattern.

But back when he was little he called his mother as “ka-san”(mom)

In this episode……..I heard Reiji’s speech and he goes back and forth and switching boku and watashi and even called his mom ka-san like he was back to a little boy………T^T

It was like he was unconsciously going back to a little boy like he was used to in front of his dad but then consciously reminding himself that no, he’s the leader of lancers, CEO of LDS company he has to maintain his composure.

Reminder that Reiji Akaba was only thirteen when his father abandoned him. 

Reminder that Reiji went to search for him, only to find out his father was planning a massive search and destroy mission across an entire dimension. 

Reminder that Reiji is having to live with the knowledge that the XYZ dimension’s destruction and the countless casualties was because of his father. 

Reminder that Reiji has just been told his father abandoned him for the hope for a girl who’s no more than a mere ghost now. 

Reminder that Reiji has actually had said father ask him to abandon his comrades and kill the friend he admires and respects who is also the son of one of Reiji’s biggest allies to prevent something that could have been entirely avoided had Leo not crossed dimensions. 

Reminder that Reiji did not hesitate for one second to not only refuse this offer but to call out his father on the sheer hypocrisy of it all. 

Reminder that Reiji Akaba is actually a pretty great fucking character.
