I just said a few days ago that I am pretty sure I have never met anyone who likes the 5Ds twins so please tell me why Rua/Leo is your favorite character? I am very curious.
He’s
just—he’s so precious. He’s bright, and cheerful, and energetic,
and always tries so hard. He can be a little brash and reckless and
gets in over his head a lot because sometimes he’s a little arrogant
about his abilities, but that’s almost a shell that he uses to hide
how scared and insecure he is.
Since
his parents leave him and his sister basically alone, and his sister
is frail and sick, he feels like he has to protect her. He’s the
best brother, always trying to take care of Luka because there’s no
one else around who will do it. He wants to be there for her. But
at the same time, Luka is special.
Luka has powers that he doesn’t. Luka is a better duelist than he
is, and more often than not, the things he does gets him and his
sister into more trouble than they were already in. He’s insecure,
frightened, and often feels pretty useless. He’s not a Signer and as
far as he knows he’s just a tagalong on the big mission. He feels
like what he does usually just makes things worse. He’s not special
like Luka is; although Luka tries her hardest to reassure him that
he’s not inferior to her, he feels like it anyway. So he tries. And
he tries and he tries and he tries to protect her, to be useful to
everyone, to get better with his dueling skills, to be an important
part of the team. Even though he fails so often he keeps getting
back up and trying again.
For
a side character he just has so much depth to him and I feel like I
can understand him from even just a few episodes when he appears.
Just…his
cheer is infectious. His desire to better himself is infectious.
The fact that he can keep smiling and enjoying himself even when he
feels sad and useless a lot is inspiring to me. He’s a big ball of
cheer and happiness and I feel like he’s more important to the group
than he even realizes. I wish they had made him a Signer earlier
than they did because if anyone deserved it, it was Lua. Lua would
have been the best Signer the whole way through; his bravery would
have never flagged if he had felt like he was an important member of
the group.
He’s
so brave for being so young, and despite how immature he acts I
really think he is mature for his age. He tries to be, at least, for
the sake of his sister. I just love him for that. For trying so
hard and being so hopeful even after every time he falls down.
I
guess that’s my type, really. I love the characters who are bright,
cheerful, sad inside but rarely let it show outside because they’re
trying so hard. The ones that fall down over and over and yet always
get back up. Lua just fits that type completely. :)
Thanks
for the ask!
I’m going to agree with everything up here and add that Rua was, simply put, the best character of the entire show and the only one who kept a consistent personality and character development when the second season took such a nosedive in quality.
Even when the odds were against him and society as a whole kept telling him that he didn’t matter or that he was just bait compared to the Signers he always got all the shit done, always put himself in the line and risked his everything.
He got the group to talk to Aki when everyone was working to keep her isolated; his sacrifice created a miracle without which Aporia couldn’t have recovered his hope (and passed it to Yusei by duelling for their sakes) AND his Signer Dragon a) has the best design and b) is the Tuner that allowed Yusei to create his ultimate ace–Shooting Quasar Dragon.
Rua is the Tuner to Team 5Ds (corny YGO puns notwithstanding)
Reblogging for the amazing commentary thank you for this beautiful addition :’)
