Second most well developed character on this show has got to be Shou Marufuji.

The One With the PERFECTion (Part 1)
wait i see no cell here
Kaiser Ryou, best at the academy, nominates Judai as his opponent for his Role-Model Duel to be held in honor of his graduation. Judai and Kaiser Ryou duel, and a worked-up Judai becomes unusually meticulous as he tries to fend off his Cyber End Dragon/Power Bond combo. But the Kaiser Fusion-Summons Cyber End Dragon on his very first turn, and while he avoids fatal damage, due to the Kaiser’s skillful fusion and de-fusion, Judai loses his edge before he finally summons a Power-Bond-enhanced Cyber End Dragon (ATK/ 8000).
The One With the PERFECTion (Part 2)
i don’t even see vegeta c’mon
Judai’s duel with Kaiser Ryou continues, as Judai holds back a fierce attack from an enhanced Cyber End Dragon with his LP down to 100. Hungry, he eats some riceballs and regains his true sense of self. And then, he assembles four Elemental Heroes with different Attributes–Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind–using his Trap Card to hit the Kaiser’s field with a clean sweep. But the Kaiser once again summons an enhanced Cyber End, and raises its ATK to 16,000 with Limiter Removal. With fusion their strong suits, the scale of their battle hits its limits…
See ya, Season 1~
Not too long after I finalized episode 50, here’s a double-header for you as Judai and Ryou have a rematch to close the season out! This one’s pretty enjoyable, especially once Judai gets back into things; Ryou picks Judai as his last Academia opponent knowing he’d give him a good fight, but you can sense his disappointment as Judai duels without the trait he was looking forward to over the course of 51. And then between the Elemental Burst combo and the over-the-top-ATK battle to finish things off, it’s a fun watch that sends Ryou off.
Correction-wise, 51 had a few card fixes as well as a QOL footage fix, while there was one card fix in 52; notes below the cut, as usual. (EDIT, 2021 and 2022: Applied two fixes in 51 (in 2021) and one in 52 (2022) that I missed before, listed in bold under the cut!)
Enjoy, folks! And I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy (and home if able) given the circumstances; hopefully these get to lighten things up for you a little. With this season now finalized, I’ll take a GX break to go work on revising my 5D’s Dub-Uncut #24 so it’s up to snuff with the newer ones I did as I start working on stuff for GX Season 2; now that I’m more well-versed in editing with Photoshop/etc, I’m looking forward to more fully translating that OP, lol. who’s ready for 52 more episodes of 99%
Ahh, so that’s what the deck was trying to tell Ryou. Since he thought that he had nowhere else to go, he mistook its signals as meaning that it just wanted to continue fighting all the time instead of realizing that his monsters wanted to continue pushing their limits and wanted him to evolve more as well.
Shou has really learned how to listen to and respect his monsters now though. And I’ve noticed during the duel that the deck hasn’t been shocking him at all like it did before. Shou’s own monsters being present probably has something to do with that and are a mitigating influence on the Cyberdarks. Also they probably appreciate that Shou understands them and decided to go easier on him for that. ^^;;
I like too that Shou has become confident that he’s going to keep growing and changing now, when at the beginning of last episode he wasn’t sure about it because he had never thought about his future before. But he knows now that they all have a future they can continue to work towards before them.
I really love this scene. I think it really shows how different both Sho and Kaiser are when it comes to evolving as duelists. Kaiser already thought that he reached his limits back in season one and that notion made his losing streak hit him even harder. He was so used to being the best that I don’t think he knew how to handle losing and eventually became so desperate to keep winning that he became Hell Kaiser. Even when his heart started to give out, Kaiser’s main priority was just to get one last good duel out before he died. The thought of getting medical treatment so that he could live longer seemingly didn’t come up since Kaiser already thought that he reached his limits.
Sho is the opposite. Unlike his brother, Sho had to deal with losing duels before. He started off at the lowest rank and had a lot of self-confidence issues to deal with on top of it. But he was able to make progress to become a stronger and more confident duelist. Kaiser believed that he couldn’t change because his skills were already at perfection, but Sho working his way up the ranks and then using Kaiser’s deck more effectively shows that change is always possible. It’s a really nice detail that fits with their personalities and makes their storylines feel like parallels to each other.

Omg, that’s really sweet! ;______;
Even though they care about each other, Ryou and Shou have never really had the strongest relationship. There’s always been a distance between them because of how Ryou saw Shou as being someone immature who needed looking after and how Shou felt intimidated by how far above him he thought his brother was. But now Ryou is actually treating him as his equal for the first time and Shou is so overwhelmed because it’s what he’s always wanted from him.
It’s just nice to see how genuinely proud Ryou is of how much his brother has grown and he’s realized that there are things that he can learn from Shou as well. It’s good to see that their relationship is given a positive and hopeful wrap up and that they can now move on from the previous difficulties that they’ve had together and have a chance to maybe grow closer now as well.
It’s also interesting that Ryou says he wants to form a new pro league instead of going back to the one that already exists. Maybe after his own experiences in it, he wants to form a league where duelists won’t have to feel the pressure to do something like turn to the underground dueling scene if they fall onto hard times in their careers.
Oh hey, there’s Ryou! Poor guy looks like he still has a lot of recovering to do but at least he’s alive!
Also, are they just reminding us of what happened to him last time in case we forgot or is he actually just sitting there and thinking about how great his last duel was? ^^;
You hear that, Ryou? That means NO DUELING FOR YOU MISTER.
Geez, the universe can’t give him a break though as apparently he just got dumped in the ocean when he was brought back. I still don’t know why he wouldn’t have come back along with all the others though. Did Yubel not send him to the holding dimension and he went somewhere else instead?
Shou looks ready to just fist fight this asshole and tbh I’d let him. So should Judai.
The guy literally brought down a helicopter at the beginning of the episode so he clearly doesn’t care about, you know, killing people.
Errr, you did? Certainly seemed like you were still obsessed with it to me. ^^;;;
But I guess he’s saying that it doesn’t truly matter whether he actually wins or loses this duel anymore. What he wants is to make it something to remember him by, to make it a special shining moment where he gives it his all. Of course he’s still going to try and win since he’s a duelist, but how he duels is more important than the end result of it.
I think your heart is probably wishing right now that you weren’t like this, Ryou. :/
