Konami is releasing their new booster pack, Shining Victories, on January 9, 2016 in the OCG, and although its protagonist is Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon (or at least, that’s what the pack’s cover indicates), I think we should be more excited for the new archetypes the company is introducing to the game. The booster pack is introducing two new archetypes: Moon-Light and Amorphage, but Moon-Light is the one that’s taking the spotlight in this article because it’s an anime archetype.
Moon-Light is an archetype of female LIGHT/DARK Beast-Warrior-Type monsters, and they’re used by Selena in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V. The archetype itself debuted on the anime’s 45th episode, but it wasn’t until the 84th episode that Konami announced through the OCG’s official Twitter account the printing of the archetype. The cards that appeared during the 84th and 85th episodes were confirmed for and were included on Shining Victories; so far, the archetype consists of eight monsters (5 for the main deck and 3 for the extra) and one trap card, with an additional main deck monster confirmed as the promotional card for the March, 2016 issue of the V-Jump magazine.
Moon-Light’s playing style revolves around a straightfoward beatdown strategy using the Fusion Summon. Their effects include manipulating ATKs or getting rid of the opponent’s backrow. Most of the Fusion Monsters possess the effect to attack all of the opponent’s monsters, not once like all other monsters with such ability, but twice. This is made possible by the condition that they cannot destroy a monster during the first battle with it. This quirk allows them to inflict immense amounts of battle damage in a single Battle Phase, likely leading to a OTK (One Turn Kill). Also, the more powerful ones are Summoned by fusing one other Fusion Monster plus a number of other “Moon-Light” monsters equal to their difference in levels, in a way akin to a Fusion version of Rank-Up.

Regarding the members, I’d say the archetype came out well supported, it doesn’t have a lot of support in Spell/Trap Cards, but we have to be patient; the Moon-Light is awesome, so we can be sure that Konami will give it more support in the near future. In my opinion, the Moon-Light will end up being like its brother archetype the Frightfur [those who watch the anime will understand why I say the Moon-Light and the Frightfur are be siblings].
Is it a deck I’d build? Yes, totally; Would I make it one of my main decks after building it? Like hell I would.
If you can’t wait until January for Shining Victories to come out, or you cannot afford buying OCG cards or don’t want to wait until it comes out in the TCG, go ahead and try it on YGOPro, the whole archetype is already there. Don’t worry for the lack of support in Spell/Trap Cards, some of the Fire Fist cards can help the deck to move and compensate the support we know is yet to come.
