shun is not some sort of “tragic hero” or “victim”

alright, in the second case–yeah, being invaded by academia and forced to live with scraps and fear of being carded, yeah he’s a victim there. he’s a victim of academia. 

what he’s not a victim of is his actions in standard and rashness in synchro

he carded INNOCENT PEOPLE who were NEVER involved in the conflict or even knew about it to draw reiji out. people who spout that it’s because “he was doing it for ruri” and “he’s had a rough life” dont seem to understand that he made these actions himself

he chose to card innocent people without being mind controlled or brainwashed or manipulated into it. kurosaki shun deserves both a hug and a punch to the face. just because he “lives a rough life” bc of academia still doesnt excuse his actions. like what are you going to say to the people’s families who were carded??

“forgive him he just lived in a war environment and killed your family member to attract someone else’s attention” “i’m sorry he possibly killed someone close to you who wasnt involved in this mess at all bc he’s a victim of academia, and this excuses his actions, y’see”

he could have attracted reiji’s attention in a number of different ways but he chose to attack people who werent even involved. his literal plan was to make as big a fuss as he could and kidnap reiji to hold him hostage against reo

without even knowing that reo even considered reiji valuable

you think he has a plan but ultimately his goal is ruri and he’s been shown to be pretty desperate to get her back (why else would he join with reiji when he could have flat out refused and gone back to his old ways–it’s because he didn’t have a second plan! he at least recognizes he needs help, but because he’s an ass he goes with it in the most roundabout way)

also jfc people ignoring shun’s character development after ep45 fill me with rage

he lost the duel because of his pride!! literally!! it was a wake-up call to shun who had been so caught up in his power that he thought he could best sora again when sora had gone back to train and become stronger just because he already did it once!

it’s the beginning of shun beginning to realize that he honestly isnt the best out there and he needs stop acting like he is

(and even still in synchro he went off to do his own thing but you know the shun from our first episode with him would have never even begrudgingly teamed up with dennis & gongenzaka)

kurosaki shun is a character with flaws and is beginning character development so could people not glorify him into some invincible character when what makes him interesting is his flaws and how he overcomes them
