Hah, not weird at all! One of the many reasons why I loved Judai as a character — and subsequently fell in love with GX as a whole — was because KENN did his voicework. His acting during the Haou arc still gives me shivers, to this very day. :)
Indeed. You gotta hand it over to seiyuu that could voice high pitched shonen characters, their deep voiced evil sides and sing all at the same time.
KENN has absolutely amazingrange. It’s just a shame that so far, he seems to have been pidgeon-holed into ‘hot-blooded shounen action hero’ roles, post-GX. I would give almost anything for a series where he plays a villainous character of any stripe (and no, Kyoukai no Kanata doesn’t really count).
Well, if you want to hear him in a non-hero role, you could check him out as Kouki in Digimon Savers; it sounds like a cross between his S4!Judai voice and his earlier tone for him lol. He’s in there for about 10 or so episodes, too, and so is Takanori Hoshino (JACK!!, Honest) as his ally Ivan.
Okay so first Taiki Matsuno plays the Agumon line, now JACK’s Takanori Hoshino is playing that “I’ll never say it out loud” dude Ivan, and looking at the Digimon Wikia, fuckin’ KENN is Kouki (lip-ring BioThunderBirmon dude; I’m amazed I didn’t pick it up when I heard him) [and mind you, Kouki and Ivan show up in the SAME EPISODE], and the dude who played Costello in GX is SaberLeomon. AND MR. T IS MASARU’S FATHER WHAT
BUT ALSO SAVERS IS GETTING INTENSE DAMN
[sorry, all these voice coincidences are just really amusing]
