Just if they made Judai cry… Judai losing a duel when he’s a seven year old would probably make him cry so I can definitely see why his friends back then would not want to duel with him. But from the sounds of it it doesn’t have to be a duel, all it took was something mean to say to Judai or not share toys with him or whatever and they would earn Yubel’s wrath. So they didn’t just stop dueling with him, they stopped being friends with him altogether. Yubel could’ve even targeted his parents if she wanted. Maybe that’s why Judai was so cheerful in the beginning because he was subconsciously trying to protect his new friends from whatever threat he felt there was? I feel so bad for Judai. :’(
Omigosh, no, my heart can’t take that. Judai starts acting cheerful all the time because he connects his friends getting hurt with the times that he gets upset. Bottling up everything because even though Yubel isn’t here, even though he doesn’t even remember Yubel, he knows that he’s not allowed to cry because something terrible will happen, so he just smiles all the time and doesn’t let things visibly hurt him, and it gets worse and worse until he just can’t hold it in anymore because everyone is getting hurt despite him trying to hold it all in, and he breaks down and loses himself to his Supreme King self. And now that I think about it, Judai was pretty calm for a little bit after Majoume, Asuka, Fubuki, and Kenzan were lost. He tells Shou “it’s okay because I avenged them”, but was that only because he was so stuck bottling himself up that he wasn’t able to show how hurt and broken he was because they died? Maybe if he had been alone, then, but because Shou, Jim, and O’Brien was there he tried to put on his mask of indifference even though he was being destroyed from the inside, because subconsciously he’s afraid that if he shows his feelings the friends in front of him will disappear too, but Shou doesn’t understand that and thinks that Judai just doesn’t care and it escalates and oh Ra, that’s okay I didn’t need my heart anyway.
Judai just needs to be comforted and let people tell him it’s okay to cry.
