There’s one major thing I hate about the 4kids dub when it comes to Joey…
They never showed how he matured as a person.
During his dream sequence in the Battle City finals against Odin, Tristan pulls Joey to one side; in the dub a piece of paper is blank and Tristan states ‘this list of cards you gave us is blank!’
In the sub, a name is written on it and Honda asks what it’s about.
‘Just some guy who wants to meet for a brawl after school…’
Tristan goes a little nuts and Joey assures he’s not going because he’s ‘not like that anymore’.
Joey must have brawled occasionally with those who challenged him (perhaps by those who also attended Rintama or another rival middle school that also now attend Domino High) for his ‘title’, but overtime the fights have become less thrilling than duelling and he’s no longer bothered by losing his ‘title’.
So yeah, that annoys me. You don’t see Joey mature as a person in the dub, only as a duellist.
