I wonder if people who are eagerly expecting dubs of Digimon Adventure tri. realise that it is not at all guaranteed that TOEI will allow international dubs to use the English dub’s names for the human characters (Tai, Matt, Izzy, and so on.)

In fact, all of TOEI’s English materials for tri. (such as the website and the official subtitles) have consistently used the original Japanese names, despite the fact that some English dub terminology (Digidestined, the Digimon’s names) was kept.

As shown by international dubs of other TOEI products (Sailor Moon Crystal, for example) there might be a new policy of wanting to keep the characters names consistent across all markets, mostly for marketing reasons.

Furthermore, since it is 2015 and Digimon Adventure tri. is not exactly a children’s anime, the practice of “Westernising” Japanese given names may not be considered necessary anymore. It might even be seen as undesirable, considering that the characters are Japanese and the story takes place in “Real World”, modern Japan. (Whitewashing isn’t cool anymore.)

Calling the human characters by English (nick)names might not make a lot of sense for a more adult audience (despite the nostalgia), and much less to a more anime-savvy audience.

I’m not saying that this will happen for sure, but I really think fans should be prepared to get dubs that are very different from the versions they grew up with — with new voices, new names, new terminology, songs in Japanese. In the case of the English dub, differences will probably be more felt; I wouldn’t expect the joke-filled script or the catchy soundtrack of your childhood.

What I’m trying to say is — approach tri. in Japanese with an open mind and, if/when the time comes, don’t expect your local dub to be the exact same Digimon dub you grew up with. And, above all, don’t allow the changes to keep you from enjoying tri.
