if you go with the “summoning mechanics represent cultures” thing, which is what im pretty sure the fusion invasion of xyz and whatnot is going for, shun is actually a case study in a real world phenomenon. i think the word for it is lateral prejudice or something. basically, shun is the victim of fusions anti-xyz prejudice. but he himself is incredibly derisive of all cultures that aren’t his own (you can see this in his comments on LDS having inferior xyz summons and standard having Weak Duelists in general, and again in the underground arena in synchro) his prejudice against standard in particular extends so far to
a.) allow him to completely shrug off the fact that he carded quite a few innocents in his campaign against lds
b.) suspect that dennis is not from lds solely because he is good
c.) talk big about his comrades when they’re from xyz to the point of saying he would always try to get them back, but seem to care essentially none for the people from standard who actually saved his life earlier in that week
now im not saying that shun is As Bad as the ideology pressured into the students of fusion, but he does have a lot of prejudices (so long as we’re playing with the summoning mechanics = cultures theme) that complicate his character.
