Haha, well, so as everyone knows, 4K’s been hella slow about getting the ARC-V dub airing here in the US. But Italy started airing their Italian dub, based off the 4K English dub (unfortunately), earlier this year, and Canada started airing it once a week over the summer, I think. Then, Australia came in this fall (I think ‘round August?) and started airing them thrice a week (they’ll be airing 37-39 this weekend). get your life together 4k
I stumbled onto this site a few weeks ago that has .mpg medium-quality rips of the Italian dub, which I’ve been using to satisfy (heh) my curiosity on how the episodes are handled a bit (and conveniently refresh my Italian). Would’ve been nice if they got to dub it based on the original (they did so for GX Season 4 which was awesome), though. But there’s that if you wanna check it out!
So, going by the Italian dub, even in Berserk Mode, Yuya’s still going on about his monsters swinging into action
*facepalm*
Also, they cut out the part where Selena’s about to change before Yuzu has to stop her haha
AND THEY CUT THAT ONE SCENE IN EP 45 WHERE YUYA IS STADING STILL LIKE HE DOESN’T GIVE A FUCK AND THEN HE’S SURROUNDED BY FLAMES (Hount dog’s effect activates and then we already see Yuya standing up), like wtf ITALIAN DUB THAT’S NOT HOW YOU DUB
I NOTICED THAT TOO
So whatever-color Obelisk Force has his Hound Dog fire its effect flames, then it’d cut to Yuya just TAKING IT before the OF dude chuckles in a split-screen, and we see Yuya’s LP drop. They made it so Hound Dog fires its flames, then cut to when the split-screen with the OF dude happens. Probably a time-cut though; happens a lot when they cram an unnecessary recap in.
(And technically, the Italian dub’s piggybacking off the edits 4K did for the English dub haha)

‘Tis only a scratch!

I still can’t believe dub!Yugo has an incredibly deep voice
Or that he has a western accent
But seriously that’s an incredibly deep voice
Watching some of the Italian dub past 34 for curiosity’s sake (downloaded here), and uh
Episode 39.
Berserk Yuya.
So, not only is the music as forgettable as always (naturally), but–and I’m really hoping this is just the Italian dub–Yuya sounds way too emotional when he should be talking in that super-calm voice he originally had… And apparently, he’s still taking control of the duel and swinging his monsters into action when he’s… supposed to be in this darker state?
Also, it sounds like 39 has one of the worst Action Duel Chant™ handlings, like those specific-to-current-situation ones; pretty sure there was a cut here or there. But they did keep Isao’s talk of darkness, and I think most of the dialogue was on-point, from what I understood, so there’s that. No weirdly demonic laughter in that one scene either.
Side-Note: It’s 13 episodes since the MC/ALC started, and they still haven’t updated the opening. Probably won’t until episode 50, at this rate. Wasted opportunity when they have awesome Burn! footage to use.
Also still not over Iggy I mean wut
Matt Shipman is the best thing about the ARC-V dub
I was really hoping Yuya VS Reed Part 2 (dub!17) would spare us of these food puns…
Maybe just a tiny morsel here and there…
But there’s just too many to swallow.
How did they look at their recipe for these episodes and think, “I’d totally dig into ‘em?”
So, after @yugiohblogstuff made the post saying that France recently aired Shun VS Sora Part Deux (aka “CarpetBombing - The Episode”), I was Googling around to see if I could find it streaming anywhere. The network that airs it did have it online, I think, but not being in France, I couldn’t play it: http://replay.gulli.fr/replay/video/dessins-animes/yu_gi_oh_arc_v/VOD68336198205000
(^Could be a general page, dunno if it has everything aired so far; here’s 34′s link; called “Se montrer à la hauteur”)
I ran that title through Google and got this TV listing site where they list what episodes air when, and looking at 37′s page, titled “Yugo VS Yuto” (considering they used dub names like Shay/Shun for the other summaries, like this one for 38 (which uses Lulu for Ruri, too):
I’d take it to mean that Yugo’s going to keep his name, after all. My question is, how are they going to handle the gag with his name “linking” him to Academia? (And more importantly, why is Isao now Iggy? Uh…)
All that said, maybe someone in France can look into that link for 34 and see if it’s anything? It’d be good to know how that episode fared, haha; the site I use to check on the Italian dub’s still on 32, so I dunno if they’ve aired it yet, too.
So, I gave ARC-V 10′s dub a look last night, and since it’s one of my favorites, I’m doing some side-by-side comparing now. Overall, I thought it was a lot better than episode 9′s dub was–the dialogue wasn’t as cringe-inducing, and the half with Yuzu VS Julia/Masumi was actually well-done; hell, aside from a tweak or two, Julia’s chants for her Gem-Knights were pretty much lifted from Masumi! On the other hand, for some reason, Kit/Yaiba didn’t get any chants, which gave those Synchro shots a good deal of awkward silence. Also, is it me, or did it sound like some of Kit’s lines were cut short during editing? They don’t sound like they ended naturally, if that makes sense lol.
So… yeah, Yuya’s Nanana Action Card was definitely censored in the dub. Abrupt cropping, cuts and all.
“I’m using the Action Card I snatched from you [that you can’t even see me using]! *snip* It’ll give you the biggest sugar crash! *snip*”
Is it because of its connection to TVTokyo? Maybe, but that could’ve easily been handled by just redesigning the card…
