The year is 2011. A veteran 4Kids animator takes a look through the first episode of a new spinoff, Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal. He chuckles fondly at the extravagant hair and overdramatic duels.
Astral appears.
His face goes sheet white. This character is stark naked. He’s knows in his heart of hearts that it doesn’t matter that Astral’s an alien with Barbie doll anatomy. His right hand starts to cramp with the echo of an old work injury and it all comes rushing back.
“I want you to draw another boob on this half-dragon.”
“Wh…what?”
“You heard me. Every scene. Also their shirt only covers half their chest so you’re gonna have to draw that, too.”
“B-but they’re the main antagonist this season. They’re in almost every episode! Wouldn’t it be easier to brush out the other breast and present them as male?”
“You FOOL. That would make them GAY.”
“Dear god, not again,” he hisses through his teeth. Astral is in the very first episode. He’s a main character. He will be in hundreds of thousands of frames.
In a fit of desperation, he opens Photoshop and slaps a glow filter over the alien’s lower half. The screencap he sends to the boss comes back with a message of one word.
