Hello everyone, now seems like a good time to finally tell you all about Pillowfort.io, a blogging platform that I (juliabaritz) and vaguestblogging have been working on for a while. Basically, we wanted to start a new blogging platform that takes our favorite features from sites we’ve used like Tumblr and LiveJournal, and create the best kind of blogging platform we could think of. Our goals for Pillowfort are to create a place where fans and creators alike can share their work, create a community of their own, and do so in a positive and safe environment.
On Pillowfort you’ll be able to run a personal blog similar to how Tumblr blogs operate, but also create communities similar to the ones that LiveJournal features, so that you can easily share content with people who share your tastes and interests. We’re also working on privacy features like blocking users, the ability to make posts rebloggable or un-rebloggable, and creating privacy lists so that your posts will only be visible to certain users. In the next few weeks, we’ll have more detailed posts about what Pillowfort is going to look like and what features we’ll be including, but above are a couple screenshots from the current state of the site so you can see what we’re going for.
We want to get the word out, so share this post if you would be interested in using a site like this so we can get an idea of how many people are interested! This site would also be a very large undertaking for us to attempt to finish ourselves, so we would love for people who would be interested in helping us with the programming to contact us and let us know that you’re interested. The app is built on Rails and currently deployed on Heroku (using Postgres for the database), so a familiarity with Rails and PSQL is greatly preferred.

I feel pretty weird doing this, I’m not used to admitting things aren’t going super well, so I thought I’d at least provide some context.
Basically, my boyfriend got kicked out of his house by his abusive parents for being gay.
It’s not all bad. He had about 10,000 dollars in savings, an associate’s degree, and the most indomitable will of anyone I’ve ever met.He’s got a plan that he’s followed through on from day 1,in fact since before he got kicked out, pretty much as soon as he saw the writing on the wall. And now he’s a real estate agent. In a matter of months, his job should by all accounts bring in enough income that for the first time in my life I might not be constantly stressed about not having enough money.
Unfortunately, the realtor he signed up with p much lied to him and the startup time AND costs have been nearly double what we anticipated. On top of that, he had to get his own car for his job once aforementioned shitty parents reclaimed the heap of junk he was driving before.
To make matters WORSE, while we’re living alright off mine and my sister’s income, the college we both work at is going to go on break in december, effectively leaving us without work for three weeks! AND my sister’s student loans are set to kick in soon, too.
So all of this is going on, his entire family has effectively discarded him for trying to get away from his abusers, and while my family is more supportive they either don’t have the money or are too uncomfortable with my sexuality for me to be able to ask for help with my situation.
It’s horrible to be so close, so close to breaking through, and even so having to help him through suicidal episodes because he just can’t see a way to make things work to keep us afloat until he can finally get on his feet.I understand where he’s coming from with feeling like a burden, but honestly, I’m a lot more scared of losing him to all of this than I am scared of the money.
I’m working on getting a second job and trying to maneuver my family into helping us, but frankly, I’m desperate and willing to give anything a shot.
So if you have any spare cash you wouldn’t mind parting with to help us out, I’d appreciate it. If you can’t, I’d appreciate a signal boost.Thanks for your time.

To give people an idea of what things are like, if like half my followers donated 10 bucks, our problems would probably be solved. This isn’t an unsalvageable situation, just a temporary crisis, and it’s really nice to remember there are people out there that care. We’re gonna get through this one way or another.
On another hand I also wanted to say that this isn’t our only approach to getting income, so if you can’t afford to donate please, please don’t feel pressured to! I’ve been pretty anxious about that possibility so I just wanted to address it. I really don’t want to be putting people out of money that could be even potentially critical to their own well-being, so please evaluate your situation and make sure it’s something you can do before you donate!

Hey to all ygo fans there!!!
Lately, my friends and I have been talking about the possibility of making a new ygo fanzine. I have submitted work to an art book and a 20th anniversary fan calendar earlier this year; both have donated proceeds to support charities.
This time, we’ve been thinking of something different. What if we made a sort of mock-up of a magazine? This means that this offers a collaborative between both artists and writers. The idea is to have different people contribute different parts of a magazine which may include:
- fake advertisements
- meta articles of whatever series/characters
- letters to the editor complaining about pot of greed
- an event article about kurosaki beating up ten people
We’ve had a few fan books made on this side of the fandom, but (to my knowledge) not many of them take in content from the writers.
We want responses - from people who want to contribute and from people who would be interested in purchasing this kind of fanzine. Depending on input it can change whether or not this can happen and how many pages will be planned out.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Ok so staff just released info about this new update, and while it seems like an effective way to cut off any lurking, hateful anons, or the possibility of anyone seeing your blog that you don’t want to, it also cuts off a lot of other useful features as well.
I conducted a little to test to see how it works by turning off the “show this blog on the web” feature on this blog, and using a dummy blog to see how it works.
- First things first, using this feature eliminates your URL completely. You as the blog owner are not even able to view your blog at the URL address. I tried WHILE I was signed in to my blog and it still would not allow me.
- Obviously if you as the blog owner can’t see it also means no one, including mutuals, can see your blog either. There are only two ways you can still view a users content: The mobile side view and posts that come across your dash.
- This feature also eliminates the use of read more’s. When you click the read more link it takes you to the permalink, which is part of your URL, which no longer exists.
- You are still able to search within tumblr for blogs and follow people and people can search for you, but as I said above, even if you are following a person or they are a mutual, they will never be able to view your actual blog page again.
If you are not comfortable losing your blog page completely, even from your own personal view, then I would not suggest using this feature.
Signal boosting this, because of a lot of blogs I follow have done this, and now I can’t read half the shit they post as a result. I don’t think they realise the issue with the read more thing.

The second photo is someone on Yik Yak claiming responsibility because I “don’t really need it”, and telling me it is in my former dorm. We checked, but without a warrant our Public Safety department cannot check individual rooms. And honestly, it might not be there.
