“Edo” is literally how you write the Western name “Ed” in katakana. Ed Phoenix’s name is not Edo. it’s fucking Ed.
True, but to be fair, anyone who’s been in the fandom since he came on the scene in… ‘06-’07? got used to calling him “Edo,” and it wasn’t until my subs got around to Season 2 some 3-4 years later that “Ed” was first starting to be used (since GX_ST’s early subs also used “Edo”). So most people use “Edo” due to habit.
My logic in going with “Ed,” besides the katakana (and you make a good point in your tags), is that it’s the same with Edward Elric in FMA/B, whose first name’s also written out in katakana as
エドワード
, and also gets shortened to “Edo,” which becomes “Ed” in FUNi’s dubs and subs.
(Though, the Crunchyroll subs also going with “Edo” probably mucks this up a bit more…)
Finally think I’ve satisfied myself with how this turned out, haha. This is a great song, and the second time we’ve had the Seiyuus/VAs in any YGO show perform a song (the first being KENN (Judai) performing “Wake Up Your Heart” in GX). Kensho Ono (Yuya) and Hosoya Yoshimasa (Reiji) deliver pretty well here–as good as Speaking is, this is still [just barely] my favorite ARC-V theme, lol.

For all you patient souls. This last week’s been a bit hell since I’ve been getting used to my new M-F 8-4 job and still squeezing in some gym time and other things before getting home with only an hour to kill before getting decent sleep for the next day, so time to work on 6 has been a bit sparse. Especially after trying to handle the credits last week lol. I prepped the script last night and started editing tonight; currently up to Titan’s direct attack here before Judai Mirror Forces it.
