Expect a mix of YGO stuff (and a little ZeXal and SEVENS [which I'm slowly watching]), with some occasional randomness.Duel Links ID: 537-542-930 | Master Duel ID: 999-767-712

    Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V episode 1

Japanese version and 4K Media version comparison

Can I ask why the dub never, in all 5 seasons of the show’s history, actually used the actual card format?

Oh oh I can answer this. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but basically it all has to do with commercialization. There’s laws (especially in America) that restrict just how much of a commercial shows can be, especially when airing and aiming at little kids. Stuff like GI Joe I believe, as a reference, was really blatant back when, since all of the stuff in the show was pretty much exact to what they were selling, and I guess people got mad at that since it meant these cartoons were basically half-hour commercials. So they put on a bunch of restrictions.

So then you have a show like Yu-Gi-Oh, which like it or not, or how much effort is put into it: it’s one big commercial for the card game. The show literally would not be able to air on TV in the west if they kept the cards actually looking like the real card formats— so while it’s likely more of a pain for them to blow up the card art and edit the cards themselves to the template they made, it’s what they actually need to do in order to even get it onto the air. This is something they actually have no control over. Again, people can correct me if this is wrong, but I remember this getting explained to me and this is basically the reason for it all.

On the topic of the edits though: RIP Yuya’s accidental flipping off, Yuzu’s skirt length, and Nico Smiley’s mustache.

Though really that skirt lengthening thing always makes me double-take. It’s so long and gaudy when they do the edit.

That’s pretty much exactly how it is.

Nico Smiley’s ‘stache was too beautiful for this world.

I JUST NOTICED THE FLIP-OFF THING

HOW IS HE HOLDING THOSE CARDS
