the 5ds dub is good actually
I think Yuya’s catchphrase will be “Swing into Action” But
“Miami City” got renamed to “Paradise City”?
One: WHY?
Two: TAKE ME DOWN TO PARADISE CITY WHERE THE CARDS SMELL FRESH AND THE DORKS ARE DORKY
Shun’s dub name is Shay and he’ll be voiced by Matt Shipman
Sawatari’s confirmed English dub name is Silvio. He is voiced by Michael Crouch.
I heard his samples. Perfect voice for him.
I was looking at the credits of the German ARC-V Dub because I heard they listed some of the Eng voice actors. Pointed out the characters that are confirmed/practically confirmed (coughShuzo)
MARC THOMPSON
MIKE POLLOCK
EILEEN STEVENS
DARREN DUNSTAN

So thanks to Lolsaurus on NAC, we have a HQ recording for episode 1 of the German ARC-V dub! I just gave it a watch while comparing it side-by-side with the original, and well…
Editing-wise, it looks like it’s on par with early 5D’s with how they think they can make a scene better by switching shots around (which they did with Yoko’s “he’s reinventing himself” flashbacks). They also cut a few of Nico’s mannerisms, like his intro bow and what he did with his hand when he said he’d offer the SVWM system for free, and they got rid of the cards behind Ishijima on the big screen (probably because it’d be hard to edit them all lol; likely why they also cut the panning shot of the buildings with the familiar monsters before it goes up to the LEO/LDS tower). Added (sometimes scene-extending) dialogue is sprinkled everywhere, too (don’t like how Yuzu talks after Yuya falls down, before/after he does that face), while they trim/cut a few other shots (like some of Shuzou or the shot of everyone looking on at Yuya before he thinks of Yushou). And they cut the part of the flashback where Yushou says the pendulum can find things, and when it’s used again later. At least they did keep a few bits of silence, though, but the music, while decent, doesn’t sound all that impressive compared to what it has to compete with.
I’m surprised they kept as much text as they did, though, at the Stadium. A few banners were textless, but some were either translated or had “Ishijima” replaced with a sledgehammer, for obvious reasons. And while they got rid of the names on the VS screens (which I expected to get cut like they were in late 5D’s; they should’ve thought of this earlier; fun fact: when the German dub got to that point, they were basing it on the Japanese version, and they edited the original names with their dub names), there was one shot of Yuya on the big screen as his LP fell with his name still there lol.
And yeah, they replaced some SFX here/there, notably the counter-appearing and stat-changing ones, though it sounded like they kept the one when the stat’s set. Why, though… And yep, no real color-scheme editing. The perks of a HQ recording. :P
So yeah, editing-wise, disappointed with the dub already. Early 5D’s was torture to sit through dubbed (even when I ground through it for my comparisons haha) because I was so into the original and hated the changes they felt they had to make, having been the first YGO series I watched in Japanese from the get-go, and it looks like it’s a repeat with ARC-V’s dub. At the very least, I noticed some lines in the German dub matched the original a bit (or at least mention the Engrish used there), so it may not be a total washout. Have to wait for the English dub to make a full judgment, but there’s that for ya.
Just to point this out, since I’m seeing it so much:

I’m about 99% sure they didn’t edit the red out of everything; keep in mind that our source for the German dub was a LQ camera recording. Once/if we get an HQ recording, or we get the English dub in HQ first, we’ll be able to confirm that. But I wouldn’t see any reason for them to edit the color schemes anyway.
at least it’s not an annoying easy-to-fix green tint
No seriously. What the fuck ?
If you’re talking about the pics from the German dub, bear in mind that those were taken from a LQ camera recording. With an eventual HQ source (or when the English dub’s out in HQ), I’m sure it’ll look normal.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh nooooooooooooooo
Just a note, I’m sure the color levels are just because of the quality; this is a camera recording we’re seeing.
I think they’re talking about the moustache…
Probably should’ve been more specific lol. I’ve seen retags and reblogs noting the color scheme “changes” (like reds becoming oranges etc) but that’s a result of a LQ source, not an edit.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V episode 1
Japanese version and 4K Media version comparison
Can I ask why the dub never, in all 5 seasons of the show’s history, actually used the actual card format?
Oh oh I can answer this. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but basically it all has to do with commercialization. There’s laws (especially in America) that restrict just how much of a commercial shows can be, especially when airing and aiming at little kids. Stuff like GI Joe I believe, as a reference, was really blatant back when, since all of the stuff in the show was pretty much exact to what they were selling, and I guess people got mad at that since it meant these cartoons were basically half-hour commercials. So they put on a bunch of restrictions.
So then you have a show like Yu-Gi-Oh, which like it or not, or how much effort is put into it: it’s one big commercial for the card game. The show literally would not be able to air on TV in the west if they kept the cards actually looking like the real card formats— so while it’s likely more of a pain for them to blow up the card art and edit the cards themselves to the template they made, it’s what they actually need to do in order to even get it onto the air. This is something they actually have no control over. Again, people can correct me if this is wrong, but I remember this getting explained to me and this is basically the reason for it all.
On the topic of the edits though: RIP Yuya’s accidental flipping off, Yuzu’s skirt length, and Nico Smiley’s mustache.
Though really that skirt lengthening thing always makes me double-take. It’s so long and gaudy when they do the edit.
That’s pretty much exactly how it is.
Nico Smiley’s ‘stache was too beautiful for this world.
I JUST NOTICED THE FLIP-OFF THING
HOW IS HE HOLDING THOSE CARDS
According to the people on NeoArkCradle: in the German dub, Nico’s mustache has been lengthened, which means if they keep this in the ENG dub, it’s less likely he’ll have a German accent. Thank God.
LDS is called LID. I suspected a change and I’m fine with it. Not only does LDS sound like LSD, but it also sounds like the Latter Day Saints (LDS), so I’m fine with this change.
Lastly, the ending for the German dub is a shortened version of the ENG dub opening.
I still prefer Hyperdrive and Halfway to Forever when it comes to dup OPs, but I’m sure ‘Can You Feel the Power?’ will grow on me.
My problem with the LDS change (while more out of concern for them lol) is that the LDS pins the students wear will either have to get edited or they’ll be there intact and we’ll be left to wonder what they mean. Also, the LeoCorp building.
English version of the theme, from that snippet, sounds a little blander than the German dub’s, but still decent.
(Times like these I wish FUNi had the license so we’d get an English BelieveXBelieve lol. Maybe someday…)
[Arc-V] More Dub Names Confirmed
From the German Website for Arc-V.
Futoshi will be Frederick
Tatsuya will be Tate
Yoko will be Yoko
Yuzu will be Zuzu
Neo New Sawatari-San will be Sylvio
Yuto will be YutoOkay but, Neo New Sylvio
Still not following the Yuzu->Zuzu thing, and I hope that’s just for the German dub. But especially if that theory going around about the Yuyas being an entity of destruction and the Yuzus of creation turns true; more reason to have the “Yu” in her name.
Everything else sounds alright to me. [If I don’t hear “the Neo-New Sylvio” color me disappointed]
