JC, aka GymLeaderLance99 or GLL99 or Lance99. 32|He/Him|NYC. I fansub GX, work on dub/sub comparisons for 5D's (and GX eventually), and have various other projects going. Expect a mix of YGO stuff (and a little ZeXal and SEVENS [which I'm slowly watching]), with some occasional randomness.Duel Links ID: 537-542-930 | Master Duel ID: 999-767-712

A friend of mine made the best point about Yugo today as we watched (in my case, rewatched) episodes 36 and 37.

Allow me to ramble a bit on it.

I love how “badass” “cool” Atem was revealed in the end to just be a really nice little dude who gave everything to protect his country from evil.

THAT MEANS IT’S TIME FOR SOME RAMBLING ABOUT MILLENNIUM WORLD IN NO PARTICULAR ORDERRRR

I’m going to assume a lot of things here and I probably cannot be 100% trusted because I just woke up from a vodka nap.

So basically ASSPULL HEADCANON TO MAKE THINGS MAKE SENSE TIME:

    • Atem read the whole big scary book of darkness when it became painfully obvious that Zorc was winning. At that point, Zorc was probably just toying with him, slowly killing off people here and there just to enjoy the anxiety and sorrow it caused his enemy, drawing out the inevitable.

    • After reading through the spells in the book, Atem knew that, even if he did seal Zorc, the existence of the Millennium Items meant the world was still basically gonna be hell’s bitch.

    • Atem made his own contract with the dark power magic shadow shit. In exchange for a part of his soul, the seal on the door to the underworld(s) would be renewed. He gave up his name, which was decided as the ‘password’ to break the seal in the future. (This is why he encouraged his cousin Set to wipe all traces of his name from history. This is why his name was removed from the tribute tablet, or it was made to look as if his name had been ‘erased’.)

    • Atem then used the power of the Millennium Pendant to seal Zorc inside it, probably draining himself immensely. With the last of his energy, he fused his soul with the pendant to protect the seal on Zorc, shattering it in the process to ensure nobody could use it as one of the keys to the door of the underworld (which effectively doubled the new ‘seal’ on the door). His body died immediately, completely devoid of any of the pieces of his soul. With Zorc sealed for the rest of eternity in the puzzle, and the door to the underworld unable to be operated without either of the keys, the world was safe…

    • until Yuugi freakin’ Mutou solved the puzzle, completely undoing Atem’s hard work. thanks Yuugi.

    • ……..but he saved Atem’s soul from an eternity of nothingness, so while it was a bad idea in the grand scheme of things, it’s okay because Atem finally got recompense for all he’d done for the world

Big assumptions to explain things as follows:

Here are the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh when Bandai owned the rights to the card game in 1998 before they sold out to Konami

    Rules
There are only 13 official rules in this game:

    ~Rule ➀~
Both players must use the same number of cards as their Decks.
    ~Rule ➁~
Draw 5 cards from your Deck to form your hand.
    ~Rule ➂~
Select 1 Monster Card from your hand and play it to start a Battle.
    ~Rule ➃~
To determine the result of the battle, compare the ATK of your attacking monster with the DEF of the attacked monster.
    ~Rule ➄~
If your monster’s ATK is higher, your opponent’s monster is destroyed.
    ~Rule ➅~
Even if you destroy the opponent’s monster, if the DEF of your monster is lower than the ATK of your opponent’s monster, your monster is also destroyed.
    ~Rule ➆~
When the battle ends, draw 1 card from your Deck and you can end your turn.
    ~Rule ➇~
Each turn will continue like this, until both players’ Decks are empty.
    ~Rule ➈~
Each player counts the total Level Stars of all monsters that they destroyed. The player with the highest amount is declared the winner.
    ~Rule ➉~
If you have Spell, Trap or Equip Cards in your hand, you can put them in play face-down.
    ~Rule ⑪~
You can activate your face-down Spell, Trap or Equip Cards at any time during a battle.
    ~Rule ⑫~
When the effect of a Spell, Trap or Equip Card is used, it is discarded.
    ~Rule ⑬~
When a player’s Deck is empty, the Duel will continue until the other player’s Deck is empty as well
