Fun fact: for some reason, 4Kids actually just decided to recolor the Japanese art, because this is the TCG art:
I still don’t really get this redesign since even the Monster (?) in the background doesn’t match the ones here, but 4Kids usually uses the TCG art for cards; I remember being caught off-guard seeing that edit the first time around, haha.
So, do I have any followers who are versed in Chinese and/or Japanese hanzi/kanji? I have a staff name from 5D’s that I’m trying to translate for REASONS, and the way it’s been transcribed by this staff-transcription blog matches how it appears in the credits, but looking it up not only doesn’t bring any matches on ANN, but I get minimal results through Google or DuckDuckGo and it’s frustrating me D:
(太田相𤨁)
The problem seems to be the 𤨁 “kanji” because when I type it in the search bar with the others, it comes up as an “x in a box” (ie, “not found” probably), and RikaiChan and the dictionary I use doesn’t bring up a match; I used a radicals site to dig up 瑨 as a possible Japanese equivalent, but searching it with the rest still doesn’t bring up a possible name. I’m not sure if it’s just that kanji/hanzi that’s a Chinese name or if the rest translate it all into a full Chinese name. Searching for the surname
太田 brings up “Ohta” as a likely last name, so there’s that?
So, would anyone who knows about the Chinese/Japanese hanzi/kanji overlap be able to help me decipher and romanize this name?
FWIW, this is a background artist affiliated with Studio Forest–who ANN conveniently doesn’t have a page listing their worked-on anime for, btw–in case anyone’s knowledgeable about them.
@ygoanimation I doubt you’d be aware of this depth of staff, but tagging you just in case lol
Can someone use their mastery of internet searching to link me the original version of this video? Just without the FFX music, but not the shorter 15s version that’s out there? Asking for a friend…
ok time to settle this once and for all is it Jonochi or Jounochi or Jounouchi please help me now
Technically Jounouchi if you go by the furigana for the kanji in his name, but I’ve commonly used Jonouchi; I think seeing it in Viz’s translation of the manga helped there…
I do find it funny that I’ve torn my hair out the last few years wondering why the full released Teardrop would never fully sync to the openings from GX, when it’s just because they gave the full version a slower tempo than the TV-size version. I always thought it was a frame-rate thing or audio quality, lol.
Heya, anyone know if there’s an instrumental cover out there for GX’s Teardrop based on the TV-Sized version in the anime and not the released single? Or maybe someone who takes [commission] requests to make one? I know folks have done acoustic covers, but they have guitar following the vocals too, and they’re 90% based on the official released version. Asking for a friend…
That TV-size version is an enigma, because even the official Korean version, which usually lifts right from the Japanese materials (and the instrumentals they used for their dubs of the first two OP/EN duos matched too) had to rely on the official instrumental and not the one the show uses…
Tweets as I watched ARC-V dub!125, an episode dear to my heart because of how good it is originally:
My biggest gripe w/ the ARC-V dub is how an intense scene is like that originally bc of the awesome music but they replace it with a tune not even close to matching the vibe… Oh and unneeded character shade (Yuri: “I’ll take Ancient Gear Hydra back–can’t have it sticky from your candy fingers” when he just says the first part)
I’m surprised they kept the Parasite on top of Yuya’s brain, but I guess that was too important to cut around, but lol They cut the Doctor massaging Yuzu’s face to taunt Yuya. And the scene with the Parasites becoming scared was… awful compared to the suspense originally there, partly because of the music, but also partly because Liscio doesn’t play Yuya as chillingly as Ono does:
JP!Selena: Our Parasite Fusioners… are scared?
JP!Yuya: Get as many to hit me as you want–but bugs are still *bugs*!
Selena: [Our parasites] look like they want to run and hide–I wonder why…
Yuya: It’s all bc of me… They realize they’re in danger–a lot of danger!
dub!Yuya not giving his one-off Monster a real summoning chant: “By combining the two most powerful dragons in the universe [what are Starve Venom and Clear Wing chopped liver], I’ll create a monster that’s all the RAGE!” are you kidding me 4K berserk!Yuya/Z-ARC isn’t supposed to be making wisecracks
And this is a trend the last bunch of dub episodes too, I think if 49 was dubbed with this latest batch, we wouldn’t have gotten Odd-Eyes Rebellion’s proper chant either.
But thank you for keeping “THERE IS NO NEXT TURN” 4K
lol They added extra impact shots to hide Selena’s foot connecting with Yuya’s crotch
I should be surprised that 4K didn’t bother updating their opening with footage from Pendulum Beat and Dashing Pendulum, but… actually, I kind of am after they updated with Trump Card and Speaking video in Synchro when that switch happened… Maybe it was all that text in Pendulum Beat keeping them away…
Overall, 125′s dub was decent, but the unneeded trash-talk, Yuya’s unneeded pun-plays when he’s kinda/sorta not himself in a rage, and the more lackluster droning music compared to the soundtrack that helped make the original episode as good as it was don’t do it any favors for me.
HOWEVER I can’t decide whether or not to watch it with subs or with the (sometimes) hilarious English dub
I highly suggest watching it subbed, though I may be a bit biased. :P
But really though, the subbed version is the much better experience because the characters actually feel like characters and not stereotypes based on their looks (Hayato/Chumley being reduced to lol grilled cheese) or needlessly snarky (Alexis quite often)–there’s actual development that happens, especially in Season 3 which 4Kids decided to write out in favor of fourth-wall breakage. You’ll also just get the story and characters as they were originally intended, but the music is much more enjoyable and works better with the series, and–best of all–you won’t be thrown off by having to jump into the subbed version after wrapping up the dub at 155, since you’ll have been there from the beginning!
The dub is good for a few laughs, sure, and there are a few changes they made that I like, but I’d always recommend watching the original version of a show or movie first, and that goes triple for any of the YGO series.
All right, so with everything up-and-loaded over on Cloudy, the downside is that they don’t have a playlist function so I can organize everything like on Dailymotion. Enter this post, where you’ll find all the links sorted out by seasons! I’ll be updating it as I upload my finalized Season 1 episodes in the coming weeks, so check the original post periodically or keep an eye on the notes for any reblogs of it I do so you’re aware of any updates. Also, keep in mind that you can download these from NAC, since I post all my downloads there!
If you would rather download, you can also use this torrent set up by rhodanum with all of my subbed episodes, including my updated Season 3 subs (which you won’t find in other torrents): http://bit.ly/1dVusa2
(Before you go on here, if you don’t mind, would you please take a minute to sign this petition I’ve set up to get GX’s unreleased music tracks released? A lot of GX wouldn’t be as good as it was without the unreleased music, and it’s still disappointing that the delayed Sound Duel 2 didn’t cover much of them. Fans got ZeXal an unexpected Sound Duel 5, so we’re trying to do the same for GX here! Spread the word if you can, too!)
Also, Crunchyroll has begun to roll out official GX subs as of 8/1/15! This is excellent news for the fandom, and while you’re more than welcome to continue watching my subs, be sure to give their subs at least one watch just to show support for the official release!
To keep the html’d list consistent, season breaks are denoted like this; arc breaks are in italics.
UPDATE (7/16/17): Finalized!Episodes 1-27 now on the list! I’ve also been working on reuploading everything to Videa.hu because of Cloudy.ec being more spotty/increasing ads, and all the links are currently replaced! While I was at it, I also reeencoded 1-26 to addthe new Sunshine/Kaisei OP I started using in 27 (since, y’know, when in Rome) and reuploaded them. Enjoy!
If you see any busted links, shoot me an ask and I’ll fix it up! Make sure you check the original post first, though; I may have already fixed it. :P
Soooo, I’ve sorta been MIA for the last couple weeks doing some upkeep on my GX stuff. I’ve mainly been reuploading my subs on Videa for my GX Stream Masterpost ™ (currently Seasons 2-4 are fully reupped), and while I have, I figured I’d kill a few birds with one stone (26 of them to be exact) and reencode episodes 1-26 to accommodate them with the new version (though technically old, but newly surfaced) of Sunshine - A Soaring Hallelujah/Kaisei’s OP video that I started using in 27. Doing so also allowed me to revisit the scripts and update them with some term capitalizations that I started using later on (aka, “Monster”, “Magic Card”, etc), so these should be the “final” finalized versions. Aka, once I’m done with Season 1, I hope not to touch these again. :D
So, I’ve currently done 1-25, I’ll be finishing 26 maybe tonight, and I’ll be updating my GX Stream Masterpost ™ with the new stream links; I’ll just need to reupload my older-but-still-good subs for 28-52 and I’ll have no more Cloudy.ec links on there! It’s been real, Cloudy. Those links will get overwritten as I finalize 28-52. And then, I should hopefully start 28 later this week!
Also, while I’m at it, I have a little survey for everyone who’s following my work: as we know, 29 starts off the Seven Stars arc, but it still uses the Sunshine opening and Battle on the Edge ending until episode 34, when 99% and Wake Up Your Heart take over. My thinking is, given all the Seven Stars footage in 99%, I’d like to use 99% and WUYH sooner? Since it feels more appropriate to start it sooner (like how “Burn!” should have started sooner in ARC-V)? Would you all like it? I’m thinking I’d do it just for the hardsubs, while the DVDRip/Script releases on NAC would still use Sunshine and BotE as in the DVDRip. Let me know!
