It was more, Fujiwara was looking into the darkness in Fubuki’s heart, which lied in how guilty Fubuki felt about not being able to save him before.  So Fubuki was envisioning an end to the duel where he got to apologize and do what he should’ve before: stick it out with him.

So basically Fujiwara trolled him (in a way) because his Vice Dragon can negate an effect targeting it (how he ended up negating Burst Breath), but he chose not to use it just to see how that darkness would play out.

Actually, I was the one who subbed it :P Thing is, a lot of those sites have my subs from ages ago when I barely knew Japanese myself (probably thanks to that one torrent) and relied on summaries and whatnot; now that I’ve been subbing GX/studying Japanese for a good 5+ years, I recently went through and updated those translations (hence the revision above lol).  I had them all up on my Dailymotion for a long while until a wipeout happened the other day, but yeah your point still stands haha.
