Battle on the Edge (Genkai Battle) | GX Season 1 Ending 1 (Finalized Subs, Ep.1 Ver)

Finally got this all done! Here’s the ending as you’ll see it in finalized!1 when I get to start working on it.  After all that tweaking I did to the video, I like how it came out! And I tweaked my lyric translations too, since I felt they were a bit too literal before lol.  I was going to use “Borderline Battle” but I found it hard to word some of the lines with it, and also I thought it’d imply “a battle but not a battle” more than “AWESOME BATTLE ON THE EDGE [OF OUR SEATS]” so I wanted to just make it a bit more explicit that that was the idea.  And so, “Battle on the Edge” (BOTE) was born.  I also worded the lyrics with an eventual singable translation in mind, so keep an eye out for it! [once i finally post my believexbelieve one]

Some of the staff names may or may not be off, since there were a surprisingly ungodly amount of Japanese staff who initially worked on GX (as opposed to the mainly Korean team later) and not all of them were on ANN or on webpages with their name’s romaji, so I had to look them up and go with the more common readings.  If anyone knows them a bit better, let me know!

In which Judai VS The Power of Leather Pants

(The video embedded above is mostly unrelated, just added so I could still keep this post up in its current Video-post format.)

Well, here it is, our final episode! I was really starting to think I wouldn’t get to say “I’ve finished subbing GX,” but… I’ve finished subbing GX! The duel between Judai and Yugi continues, until an unexpected guest makes his way in.  It’s been a fun ride, so to commemorate the occasion, you’ll see three tweaks I did here:

1. I used an updated version of Precious Time, Glory Days that Psychic Lover did in 2009, IIRC, for the opening to spice things up (I’m personally a fan of both, but either way, I’ll have both versions up for download on NAC when I post 180 with 179 in the next day or two)
2. I spent a few weeks working on an ending montage over Endless Dream, since I always felt it was a bit underwhelming that we didn’t get much of anything special for GX’s final minutes.  Thanks to blackthunder-chan (and anyone else who might’ve) for helping me flesh out my ideas for it!
3. As I recreated the last “best card”/sponsor clip, since there wasn’t a message there originally, I decided to add a “thanks for the support” one like 5D’s had at the end, and throw in a “Gotcha!” for good measure, since I saw ZeXal’s last message had a “Bring it to ‘em, everyone!” kind of message lol. (You’ll notice when I upload the DVDRip to NAC that I have it there in Japanese, minus the “-GLL99” part lol)

Also, a little side-note: it was a bit hard to tell if Judai’s voiceover lines at the end of the duel were him thinking them in the moment or if it was him narrating.  Because of the narration he did in the beginning, I assumed it was him looking back in retrospect again; at least if 4Kids dubbed it, it might’ve given me an idea just to make sure haha (the Italian dub doesn’t echo thoughts, either).

And like I say at the end, thanks for all the support! :) It’s nice that I’ve seen this through to the end after 6+ years at it, and now I’ve subbed every episode of GX; granted, I still want to go and finalize Seasons 1 and [most of] 2, but yeah. XD

Also, special thanks to se-to-oh/the-supremeking for editing the postcard, and for all the help she’s been with throwing my translations onto things over the course of Season 4! :)

So, the duel between Judai and Darkness continues, the fate of his friends and everyone in the world at stake as Darkness reveals what he actually is to mankind.  

This episode was surprisingly good; a bunch of good stuff is said, but I liked a lot of Judai’s lines about the future and all.  Also, dat soundtrack by the end (“Last Duel!”).  Enjoy, guys! And yeah, I’ll be taking a break for a week or two to work on this thing, so expect 179 by mid-April (depends on how quick I finish), with 180 following shortly after to round things out. :)

In which DAAAAAKUNESU… For real this time.

So let’s see how long 177 stays up! Here, we’ve got our big bad of the season/series taking on Judai, with–naturally–the fate of the world and its people at stake.  Also finally featuring Yubel.  Enjoy, guys!

Also, Darkness’s lines are sprinkled with a lot of “thou"s and "thy/thine"s, with some "ye"s thrown for good measure.  He uses archaic pronouns but most of his lines are still in modern Japanese, which is why I didn’t use verb endings from archaic english, save for "shalt”/“hast”, etc.  Hopefully it looks good!

And thanks for all the support since the takedown yesterday! :) If 177 actually makes it through the week, I’ll probably just finish uploading Season 4 there (I also reuploaded 176, which I’ll update in its post), and try making moves elsewhere to upload the rest for you guys to stream.  And remember, I’ll still post everything for download over on the NAC.  Stay tuned!

In which FUJIWARA. ;__;

And fifth in our end-of-GX countdown, here’s 176! The three-way bout wraps up as we learn more about Fujiwara, while Judai and Honest (also starring Johan) continue to try and save him from Darkness’s World. Watch as things go out with a bang.

And here’s 175! With five episodes left, Judai and Johan face Fujiwara to get him out of Darkness’s World, but he insists that the duo themselves are the ones that need to be saved.  So, how will that play out for him? Watch and find out! Enjoy!

So, sliiiightly later than expected (what do you mean it’s not Monday? :P), here’s 174 for ya! Fubuki VS Fujiwara continues, with great animation as Fujiwara talks some more about Darkness’s World (most that should look familiar if you’ve played Tag Force 3) in the hopes that Fubuki will see things a little… clearly now. :P

This is a great episode, though, and I like a lot of Fujiwara’s lines here; hope you do too, folks! With 175 coming up next week, we’re down to six more episodes! I’ve been looking forward to the Judai/Johan/Fujiwara battle royal for a while too, lol.

In which SAIOU ON MOTORCY–I mean, UUUUNMEEEEEIIII (wow haven’t said that in a while)

I was worried my wifi would fail me, but here’s 170, all up and loaded for ya! Saiou makes his return, having to duel Judai to save Mizuchi from Darkness, but will he manage it? Find out next week when 171’s done!

(But no this is still one of my favorites, and those scenes where Saiou talks about Mizuchi and where Judai gives his answer to “fate” near the end were great.  It’s nice that Saiou came back into action when the soundtrack improved so much since Season 2 haha.) 

In which repressed memories galore.  Also, Mr. T confirmed for being hella creepy.

Another on-time episode?! :O I was really looking forward to this one, though, it’s a good one.  We get some tragic O'Brien backstory as it slowly breaks him, and we actually see his mom, while we see a bit more about how Mr. T employs the darkness in someone’s heart as a weapon.  Enjoy, folks! 170-171 are also some I’ve been looking forward to–more Saiou lines to write!

In which we start a fun dueling tournament that–oh, stuff’s gone south in Domino City, too.  Huh.

Well, this is the first episode I’ve gotten done on-time in a while! XD; Here’s 168 for you, where we start off the Graduation Duel tournament while Trueman decides to start his assault on Domino City.  Also, Judai somehow knows how to drive a boat.  Enjoy, folks!
