    [Classic] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Remaster

Let us understand the term “remaster”.

Starting February 7th, 2015 at 7:30 JST, the original Yu-Gi-Oh! will be reairing in Japan, but this set of reruns is apparently a “Remaster”, likely meaning a digital remaster of the series (meaning quality enhancement of the original pictures and audio). This does not appear to be a “Yu-Gi-Oh! Kai” thing, merely remastered reruns of Yu-Gi-Oh! for the digital age, and likely the new master “tapes” that any further streaming, DVDs, etc. will be using.

Question is, will this be like Dragon Ball Kai (filler mostly cut but same material) or like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (reanimated to closely follow the manga)?

Either way, STOKED.  Especially if there’s a chance of a redub like DBZ got with Kai. *fingers crossed*

So the movie is based on DM (YGO Classic). I’m not mad, this was completely expected.

In Japan and in the card game in general, all the different series get plenty of merchandise/exposure, and they often market them together. The only merch in Japan I can really think of that only DM has are those detailed. expensive figures. YGO is seen as one big entity over there, and they have the money to make stuff for everything. NAS and TV Tokyo have TONS of money.

Reiji glasses are a real, official thing. So is Tag Force Special, which has characters from every series.

In the west, for some reason, the spinoffs are way under-marketed. Over here, it’s much more common that original series that created the boom to get the franchise going is going to be the most popular, I can’t think of any where that isn’t the case. Nostalgia is a VERY powerful force in the west.

4K Media, who currently handles the series outside of Asia, probably don’t get that much budget-money from Konami, and don’t have that many employees. Most western YGO merch revolve around DM, because it’s safe. If they had the money, I’m sure they’d give more attention to the spinoffs in general, and market everything together. It doesn’t help that the spinoffs are pretty shoddily dubbed and rushed, though ZeXal is an improvement in a lot of ways.

I’m hoping this movie can help them do that. And even then, loads of people WANT this movie to happen. They WANT to see what happens to everyone after Atem leaves, what becomes of normal Yugi, Kaiba, and everyone else. The last movie was barely an hour long, and only tied into 5D’s, and that never got to be addressed in the dub.

This movie is slated supposedly for 2016 in Japan, which means they have much more time to develop it into a full-length feature than Bonds Beyond Time.

I’m more interested in the spin-offs because they’re much more odd, but I understand why it’s based on the original series.

However, 4K aren’t ignoring the spin-offs completely. They’re working really hard to roll out each series digitally and on DVD and Blu-Ray, both dubbed and in Japanese with subtitles. Please give them time to do that, THEN we’ll get awesome stuff based on those things.

  • Goodbye.

    false-mem:

We have some unsettling news. False-Memories.com has been hacked yesterday morning. Although we’ve been through this before, through out the numerous servers since 2004, this attack has compromised the entire network.

Our main guy is trying to get it up as soon as possible, however it seems like the fandom for Yu-Gi-Oh! has moved forward. For awhile now, we continue to see the fandom grow onto other websites such as Tumblr and Wikia.

The staff is highly involved with the fandom ever since the original series and we are so lucky to have found friends and built such an incredible bond through Yu-Gi-Oh! We would like Kazuki Takahashi to know without his series, we wouldn’t have been able to have had such wonderful friends with the staff and the fandom community.

The website will be archived, and we’ll update every once in a while. Tumblr and Twitter will be the best way to contact us. If you would like to follow us on our personal accounts, please feel free to message in private.

It has been an honor to serve as your information and fandom guide.

    Thank you.

TV TOKYO | Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V - Some Notable Staff Members

    • Character Design: Akemi Yokota (ZEXAL)

Funny, the first time I laid eyes on the first promotional art I thought, “seems to be Yokota’s style,” and sure enough, it was. Glad to see she’s on board for ARC-V; her ZEXAL episodes were honestly just lovely, sometimes making me mistake her for Kenichi Hara in some select shots. She seriously deserves more credit, I think.

    • Chief Animation Director: Kenichi Hara (All Previous Series)

Speaking of, Kenichi Hara is [expectedly] on the staff. Now, what is interesting here is neither 5D’s or ZEXAL had a “chief” animation director as a distinguishable position. ARC-V is a weekly series, so animation directors will certainly vary, but I wonder how having Hara here will affect overall quality. I still do expect his own episodes, though.

    • Music: Kotaro Nakagawa (Code Geass, Gosick)

My interest is certainly piqued for ARC-V’s soundtrack. Both Code Geass and Gosick (amongst others) had some fabulous pieces of work, with emphasis on symphonic flare. This is a Yu-Gi-Oh! series though, and not one, whether it be the original or the first three spin-offs, has been less-than-stellar in outright pleasuring the ears.

    PENDULUM SUMMONING AND PENDULUM MONSTERS

We don’t know the complete details of the new mechanic, but, I’ll try to explain from what I’ve gathered:

Pendulum Monsters look like those two on the left and right above, and have both a red and a blue scale, both with numbers on the card.

New to the game are the two Pendulum Zones, blue on the left, red on the right. You can place Pendulum Monsters on either Zones, and they become Spell Cards with the effect between the two scales on the card.

When you have Pendulum Monsters in both zones, you can Pendulum Summon (Special Summon) a monster with a level BETWEEN the two numbers from your hand.

So, if you have a Pendulum Monster with a blue scale of 1 on the left Zone, and one with a red scale of 8 on the other, you can Pendulum Summon a Level 2-7 Monster from your hand. This can be ANY Monster, making it much easier to summon high-level monsters from your hand, since you will no longer rely on Tributes.

When a monster that was Pendulum Summoned dies, it is sent to the Extra Deck, where you can play it later, through currently unknown means.

While you can play any Monster that allows itself to be Special Summoned using this method, such as classics like Dark Magician, some monsters, like the one pictured in the middle get extra Effects if they are Pendulum Summoned.

    nantokahime:

Huh, my rantings aside - seems these two pics just showed up on 2ch.

Indicating that while 5D’s had Riding Duels and Zexal had AR Duels, Arc-V will have … Action Duels! Seems the duelists will have to interact physically with the duel fields? Things like jungles and castles?

    image

Also the new method of summoning is confirmed as Pendulum Summoning. It involves 2 monsters, powerful new effects and… doesn’t seem to say much else.

    image

    EDIT:

Also, the two humanoid monsters from the promo pic had text that referred to them as “Star Reading Magician“ / 「星読みの魔術師」 (blond hair) and ”Time Reading Magician“ / 「時読み魔術師」 (auburn hair)
