GX 9 - UPDATE!!
‘bout time i betK, guys, so I’ve done most of the fixes I wanted to do; corrected Judai’s eyes, fixed one LP counter so it shows up when the SFX plays, among some other minor ones. I sent se-to-oh a PM about help editing that scroll in the dojo, but no reply yet. :/ I also want to fix the error in how Death Kangaroo’s being given to Hayato in the flashback compared to the original scene (it being reversed in the former); I think Siliva over on NAC might be helping with giving the original shot a flashback border. I could tackle it, just need to figure out how to do it in Vegas or Premiere myself lol.
But yeah, assuming Siliva does get to help out with that or I just add the effect, I’ll finally post the stream link early in the week, and then I’ll post the hardsub for download once that scroll’s translated. I would rather get that done before moving onto episode 10, but if se-to-oh (or if anyone’s up to helping out, feel free to shoot me a PM) is able to help out, I can get started on prepping stuff for episode 10. Stay tuned!

She? Ruby Carbuncle is a girl?
I might’ve taken a little liberty there lol. I’d gotten into the habit of using “him/her” for monsters if they’re humanoid (or based on what their voice sounds like, in the case of ones like the Gem Beasts). Not sure if we ever got confirmation on Ruby’s (or their) gender, though, but I don’t think it’s too unlikely.
And “it” feels so unpersonal, I doubt Johan would ever use something like that to talk about his family. Putting also some of the gender-neutral nouns can be confusing as there isn’t a consensus about that.
Yet ‘she’ feels nice, I don’t mind it
I was going to mention that too haha. But yeah, also considering how I’d written Johan’s lines and his character, I don’t think he would, either.

Nope, definitely the new ones lol. And he uses the word “osamaru” (おさまる/to lessen (storms, terror, anger)/to be at peace). So “quench” can work, but it doesn’t really fit the “voice” I had for Judai, since it’s not a word I’d see him saying much at this point (maybe Season-4!Judai). If that makes sense haha.

Well, here it is, our final episode! I was really starting to think I wouldn’t get to say “I’ve finished subbing GX,” but… I’ve finished subbing GX! The duel between Judai and Yugi continues, until an unexpected guest makes his way in. It’s been a fun ride, so to commemorate the occasion, you’ll see three tweaks I did here:
- I used an updated version of Precious Time, Glory Days that Psychic Lover did in 2009, IIRC, for the opening to spice things up (I’m personally a fan of both, but either way, I’ll have both versions up for download on NAC when I post 180 with 179 in the next day or two)
- I spent a few weeks working on an ending montage over Endless Dream, since I always felt it was a bit underwhelming that we didn’t get much of anything special for GX’s final minutes. Thanks to blackthunder-chan (and anyone else who might’ve) for helping me flesh out my ideas for it!
- As I recreated the last “best card”/sponsor clip, since there wasn’t a message there originally, I decided to add a “thanks for the support” one like 5D’s had at the end, and throw in a “Gotcha!” for good measure, since I saw ZeXal’s last message had a “Bring it to ‘em, everyone!” kind of message lol. (You’ll notice when I upload the DVDRip to NAC that I have it there in Japanese, minus the “-GLL99” part lol)
Also, a little side-note: it was a bit hard to tell if Judai’s voiceover lines at the end of the duel were him thinking them in the moment or if it was him narrating. Because of the narration he did in the beginning, I assumed it was him looking back in retrospect again; at least if 4Kids dubbed it, it might’ve given me an idea just to make sure haha (the Italian dub doesn’t echo thoughts, either).
And like I say at the end, thanks for all the support! :) It’s nice that I’ve seen this through to the end after 6+ years at it, and now I’ve subbed every episode of GX; granted, I still want to go and finalize Seasons 1 and [most of] 2, but yeah. XD
Also, special thanks to se-to-oh/the-supremeking for editing the postcard, and for all the help she’s been with throwing my translations onto things over the course of Season 4! :)

ok enough blogging, back to GX 173!
I’m up to Fujiwara attacking with Clear Rage Golem, and for whoever’s wondering if he’ll sound more coherent in my subs, well… He will, of course, but I’ve already had a hard time figuring out one of his lines lol. It sounds good enough, I’m just hoping I translated it right. XD; (hint: something about “that which [man] cannot comprehend”, if you want to spot it when it’s done :P)
Should be done by tomorrow; also waiting for some help from se-to-oh to translate that poster Fubuki looks at with Shou/co before they fade away, so stay tuned!
