this kind of thing is so much easier in Photoshop, since you can lower the opacity of each frame to make it easier to line up with the frame below it
I dunno why I didn’t think of that, haha. It’s also much easier when I can keep zooming in and out and can still edit the frame without the rest of it being ruined; thank you, layers. Except, now I’m running into the problem where they’d line up perfectly if I was able to move it by half a pixel. D:
(Though I think it’s partly the encoding artifacts that are smudging them up every few frames; I screencap’d every 10 frames, so maybe four might work….)
My attempt at stitching the pan down this poster together to hopefully translate, because I’m apparently in the Stone Age using Paint to try and do it. How do you editors get your pans stitched? DX
(Luckily, it wasn’t anywhere as hard as the pan down those billboards; they’d be nice to translate if I could edit them all in one fell swoop, lol)
So I just wanted to throw this out there to anyone in the fandom who might have an idea of how to go about this, lol.
I’d like to try translating these billboards in episode 1, and to edit them in, I figure the best way is to stitch this pan together, work some Photoshop magic, and then work it back into the video. Problem is, as it pans, it’s also zooming in or out (I can’t tell which, and it’s hard to tell from whatching it), which makes it hard to stitch it together well even going frame-by-frame–at least for me, in Paint, haha. Has anyone tried to stitch this shot or a similar one together? Or might know any ideas of how to go about it? It doesn’t have to be perfect, as long as the billboards themselves are intact so they can get blanked/re-texted, lol. why u cut this 4K
…So, how does one go about stitching together a panning shot that’s also zooming in/out every few frames? D:
So I posted the other day about doing some minor text editing in BelieveXBelieve’s video to translate “Kaba” to “Hippo on one of the billboards;” I spent today finalizing that, and fixing up my editing-in of Sawatari’s unrevealed cards from my last upload, and getting the credits and karaoke finalized, so BelievexBelieve V1 is all good to go!
I’ve also had One Step ready to go for a month or two now, but wanted to wait for Jake, the guy who set me up on BXB’s styling, to look over my script. Since it’s been a while, and I do think it looks good as is, I tweaked some lines here/there, and now One Step’s all good to go; this is the version for episode 1.
Lemme know what you guys think! Meanwhile, with those done, I’ll start to look into the script and stuff I want to translate in episode 1.
…aaafter I get some ground broken on GX 24, finally. Those of you following my GX subs may’ve seen me post about prepping for ARC-V while some editing was done for a Manjoume post-credit scene that was TV-only. Unfortunately, said editing couldn’t be done–@alicethedragonvalkyrie did a great job for one of the shots, but the other editors I reached out to couldn’t help out due to life kicking into gear–so I think I’ll just slap my “Just After This” stuff on the clip and work with it, text and all. As much as it’d bug me having sponsor text there, it’s a nice shot that’s worth showing off, lol.
So, I’ll focus on getting 24-26 done a little quicker to make up for the delay there, and just knock out the THUNDER!! episodes, then I’ll do more for ARC-V #1. Stay tuned!
ARC-V WIP - It’s a Hippo Fest!
So I’m finishing up some prepwork with ARC-V before starting work on episode 1 (which I’ll likely do after getting GX 24 finally done), and I’ve wanted to tackle the “Kaba” here in the BelievexBelieve video. Since it doesn’t mean anything in English, I thought it’d be best to translate it for Englishers (…Englishese?) to get! Used some tuts on YouTube to learn all about using gradient overlays for the gradient in the text, then using Strokes and stacking them up via Smart Objects to get all three outline effects going; I blanked the original text by cloning in the screen before the “Kaba Carnival” slides in, and when I was all done with the text, I painted in the uncovered blanked spots. Hopefully the font looks similar enough; I’m no good with picking out fonts from a screenshot, lol.
All that’s left now is masking it in as it slides in, then panning it as the shot goes up to the dancin’, dancin’ hippos. After that, I think I was going to give my credit subs one last look and I’ll call it done there. I’ll also be doing visual translations for stuff in episode 1, so I’ll likely handle those before tackling the script.
@akameniseis lookit what I learned to do! :D Thanks again for your quick tips, haha.
GX 24 - You Better Wipe Your Title Cards Right!
(Pictured: Textless edit (left), original (middle), translated (right))
So, episodes 24-26 have this really cool title card unique to that mini-arc while Manjoume’s affiliated with the North Campus, but given the limited use and how the titles in 25 and 26 are two lines and really long, Jake759 couldn’t get this one textless when he prepped all the textless title cards for me to use way back. But since I’ve gotten more used to Photoshop, and I’ve been redrawing parts of Disks occasionally already, I figured “why not zoidberg?”
I first used content-aware filling to get rid of the text, which covered up the text on the right with some more snow which was cool, but it also put bits of the Disk in its place along where the Disk is. So I then redrew the outlines to the Disk, colored everything in, and redrew the lines along the top part of the Disk before redrawing the third Monster Zone that was completely obscured. After all that, I did some Clone Stamping to get rid of the Disk pieces along the middle between the two parts, which added a little more snow too, but hey, it totally works for me. And there’s the end result!
With the text covering much of it up in 25 and 26, I’m sure the redrawn bits won’t be too noticeable, but then for 24 here it’s already looking pretty normal, if I do say so myself, hehe. I’ll just have to mask in the Turn number for 25 and 26 in Vegas, but that shouldn’t be a problem, though they upped the brightness in 26 a bit for some reason. Just wanted to show you guys and see whatcha thought. :P
…Crapbaskets, I forgot Kickass.to was shut down a while back so the torrent link in my masterpost is now dead.
@rhodanum, we have a problem. D:
(Though not really as I can just suggest going to NAC but I know people liked that option haha)
Oh yeah, I’d forgotten about the KAT shutdown!
Honestly, it would have been so much easier if I could’ve uploaded the torrent to Nyaa instead. I remember trying dozens of times and just getting that ridiculous ‘I’m a little teapot’ error message that didn’t even explain what on earth was wrong.
thepiratebay has been back for a while now, if that matters.
I’m not even certain why I didn’t just go with TPB when I made the torrent. Perhaps this was during one of the times when the tracker was out of commission.
I’ll update the the episodes I have (I think I added your re-done ones only up to ep 6 or so, @kaiowut99) and see about re-uploading the torrent to TPB instead.
Yeah, the TPB’d been all over back then iirc, so that’s a possibility. Still so weird Nyaa gave you those errors, lol. If TPB’ll be a safe site to do it for, then that sounds like a plan; I’ve posted the redone ones up to 23 on NAC now. Many thanks in advance, Rho! :)

GX Finalized!23 Progress Report! #feelthemoke
So, I just finished timing the script, and since it’s been a bit longer than I expected to have it done (busy past few weeks), I thought I’d show you all how it looks. I’ve already done five card fixes, but there’s one quick one I overlooked, so while I hoped to have this up today (especially given ARC-V’s shenanigans today), expect to see this thing uploaded within the week!
lol That scene with everyone getting Judai to add their cards to his deck, and Asuka confuses Etoile Cyber with Blade Skater near the end
Never noticed that haha
Yeah, I can totally help with this later!
Awesome, thanks Kay! I’ll chat you the other frames; it’s just a matter of the envelope moving, but it moves while the flashback fades in, so brightness tweaks might be needed too.
If you can’t find an acronym, you could just blank out the sticker and put CONFIDENTIAL across the whole envelope, like a stamp? it’d look better than cramming a whole word into the sticker there, I think.
Hmm, that’s not a bad idea! Or just making the sticker rectangular and slapping “CONFIDENTIAL” on it; I didn’t think of that haha. My contingency was maybe using “confidential” but using the word twice and having them meet in the middle, kinda like
C C
O
N N
but that’d definitely be better. Curious, any chance you’d be able to assist with it at some point today? Just since I’m still not sure about placing text at a perspective in Photoshop haha.
Any journalism majors out there? I want to translate this from GX 22 so I can finally finish the episode, and I need a common shorthand or acronym for “confidential” so I don’t have to squeeze the full word on it. It’s this envelope Kunisaki gives to a couple who paid him to dig up some dirt. Worst-case, I guess having “confidential” in full can work, but curious to see if anyone might know~

GX 22 - Progress Update! (Finally)
Just to show that I’ve definitely been working on it, for any doubters, haha. Currently up to the commercial break in editing/timing the script. Didn’t mean to take so long with it, but it’s been a hectic few weeks (partly why I’ve been a bit less active the last week too), between a briefer-than-expected temp job, politics surprisingly distracting me a bit, and finally hitting LV6 in Pokemon Go yesterday! #instinct
Should have it done for you guys in the next few days, so stay tuned–and if you’ve been waiting, thanks for the patience! :)
