So I’m all done working on the script! I’m just about ready to encode it (only two minor edits here), but there’s one little snag…
So there’s this shot of Judai later in the episode; see that miscolored strand of hair on his right cheek there? It only lasts a frame as he starts to turn his head and it gets colored properly, but I’d like to get it color-corrected, if doable. I’m messing around with Paint.NET and getting good but non-ideal results; basically, filling it with the color-fill tool but I’m losing the detail lines around the hair.
Any Photoshoppers willing to help? agenderjoshuakiryuu, I’d ask you, but I remember you saying re-drawing/coloring wasn’t your forte. Unless I’m misquoting you, of course lol.
Working towards a mid-week/Friday ETA thanks to some IRL stuff happening (interviewed at an environmental company on Friday, we’ll see how it goes!), so have these. :)

Now, would anyone else be willing to tackle coloring the end of Pharaoh’s tail in this shot? The poor animator there took out his rough day on the kitty’s tail. :( If you’re willing, let me know and I’ll send over the 4-6 frames it’s in to edit.
That last shot, that I thought would look weird with added text, is cropped so low that the text wouldn’t be visible anyway so I didn’t edit those frames.
There is some inconsistency because the animation is kind of not very consistent. The… aspect ratio? of the kanji kept changing, so that was fun to try and match. Everything within a given shot should be consistent with itself, though.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need, or if you want me to change anything!

Is this close to what you had in mind? I made the text a bit darker than the kanji for better visibility, but I can change that if you’d prefer.
And you’re right, it does look way better like this than blanked out and re-written!
What would you like me to do with frames where the kanji are only partially visible? I figure anything where at least most of one of the kanji is visible I’ll overlay with the text (cut off by the edge of the screen in some cases), but the shots that are like 99% Juudai’s hair would look strange with added text, I think?
And on the frames where the scroll is at an angle, should I angle the text to go with it?

Nailed it! Maybe just have to move “spirit” down a few pixels so it’s more centered, but yeah, that’s the idea! Looks good being slightly darker, so that’s fine.
Hmm… yeah, wherever most of the kanji’s visible, overlay the cut-off text. If you could, keep the positioning consistent; if you can’t in some spots, it’s cool. With shots like Judai’s hair, if you’re able to mask Judai’s hair over the text, you could add the text and have Judai’s hair cover most of it; otherwise, you can add the text anyway and I’ll work on masking his hair over it in Vegas. Same with the later Shou shots mixed in there. If the words’ placement in the other shots correspond with the parts of the kanji they’re over, and those parts are visible, the text should be visible too. (Hope that sentence makes sense lol)
With the ones where the scroll is at an angle, yeah, if you could, try to match the angle with the text. Same where they’re at an angle and the kanji are blurred.
No worries about the questions, I appreciate the attention to detail! Also, realized I goofed with one of the shots; here’s one of those Daitokuji shots with the scroll’s kanji there:
For this one, I’m thinking I’ll mask this over the original pan and zoom it out accordingly after the scroll’s entirely visible, instead of having you do the extra work with each frame.
(Though, out of curiosity, would you be able to color Pharaoh’s tail in too, during this pan? If you can, I’ll send over the frames with it visible and I guess you could also slap the text on anyway lol. If not, it’s alright; I’m thankful you’re helping with this at all!)
K, guys, so I’ve done most of the fixes I wanted to do; corrected Judai’s eyes, fixed one LP counter so it shows up when the SFX plays, among some other minor ones. I sent se-to-oh a PM about help editing that scroll in the dojo, but no reply yet. :/ I also want to fix the error in how Death Kangaroo’s being given to Hayato in the flashback compared to the original scene (it being reversed in the former); I think Siliva over on NAC might be helping with giving the original shot a flashback border. I could tackle it, just need to figure out how to do it in Vegas or Premiere myself lol.
But yeah, assuming Siliva does get to help out with that or I just add the effect, I’ll finally post the stream link early in the week, and then I’ll post the hardsub for download once that scroll’s translated. I would rather get that done before moving onto episode 10, but if se-to-oh (or if anyone’s up to helping out, feel free to shoot me a PM) is able to help out, I can get started on prepping stuff for episode 10. Stay tuned!
First off, sorry about the delay! Had a busy, distracting week or two again lol. But I got to knocking out the script today, and I’ve finished timing/editing it. Now, I’m planning to do some footage editing, just a few fixes and one translation (that sign in the random dojo [i mean really where on the island is this dojo]). I’ll be pretty busy tomorrow, so I’d expect it all done come around mid-week, at least.
Meanwhile, I’ll whip up a preview photoset or two.

This has been on my to-do list for a while, actually… lol. Looks like it’ll take a reencode, though; the frames are all screwy, so when I try to push the audio into sync, it’ll still be off. I’ll have a fixed version up later using the DVDRip for the time being until I get there and finalize my translations and everything at some point.
Two scenes from episode 8′s preview in 7 that weren’t used at all in the actual episode. They were probably cut for time (didn’t think that was a thing in Japan), but you’d think they’d be on the DVD, too.
[When I was making my translated preview, I used the full shot of the Lighthouse to cover the first one (instead of the 30 or so frames originally used), and used an earlier shot of Judai and Hayato running, edited so it looked closer to sunset like these shots.]
So to make up for how late I got 5 and 6 posted, I’ve already posted episode 7 on NAC, so go get it while it’s hot! You’ll also find links for 5 and 6 a post or two up. :)
So, it’s all done; I just have to do those minor edits I wanted to make before uploading it. Should be up by tonight.
In other news, omarrio over on XenoTranslations (the guy working on TFSP’s English patch) posted the original story dialogue, and it being my forte, I offered to help with the GX part. I’ll be trying to start it a bit this weekend, then get to prepping stuff for GX 8.
Also trying to get a better audio source for 5D’s!DBZKai #3; the music in the recap doesn’t want to go, while the rest of the audio has its music gone perfectly. I’m trying to do some noise removal, and I’ll try recreating Yamamoto’s recap song as it’s used there to see if it helps.
Some quick few screenshots to show you how far in I am so far; I’m up to Shou starting his turn after the commercial break. Tweaking my ETA for Friday just to give myself some leeway lol. I’ll also be trying to tweak the footage once I’m done timing; a few minor animation errors here and there. Stay tuned!
