Just a heads-up, guys; I finally posted 5 and 6′s hardsubs over on NAC! Had issues with uploading 6′s DVDRip, so that’ll be up later with the scripts, but yeah, the hardsubs are there in the meantime. Enjoy!
While I’m at it, quick benchmark: currently up to Shou’s first turn, about 8 mins in. I’d expect it done mid-week, Friday latest. I’ll post some screenies tomorrow!
So, since episode 7 originally didn’t have a post-episode clip (the TV airing advertised the Sunshine/BOTE (Kaisei/Genkai Battle) singles’ release, and the post-ep clip was just the extra preview clips from the full preview on the DVD that didn’t get used in the shortened one), I had to make my own. Was going to make it about Shou and how well he started doing in his duel with Judai, but thought making it about his flashback and Ryou stepping in might be more effective. Enjoy!
So thanks to that whole name fiasco from episode 6’s credits, I’ll be doing the Korean names as “first last” instead of keeping it the way they were in the Japanese credits with the Eastern name order. Especially since all the other names are in Western order lol. So names like “In Tea Sun” and “Lee Kyoung Soo” become “Tea Sun In” and “Kyoung Soo Lee.” As an example, I looked up Shin Sung Min on ANN, and he was listed as “Sung Min Shin”, so that’ll give an idea of how I’ll put them. And I’ll have to update 1-5’s credits for the Korean names to get that consistency. And I’ll correct it when I get to re-finalizing Seasons 3 and 4 too.
My love for consistency knows no bounds. XD;
it only took about a month

Going to QC it tomorrow morning over breakfast; should be up by tomorrow night!

4kids seal of quality for you
*nod*
And then dub!Titan practically throws up a vocal neon “WOOOO WOOOOOOO I’M A HYYYYYPNOTIIIIIIIST” sign
NO SUBTLETY FOR YOU
I’m amused by the fact that 4Kids actually cut the subtle buildup to the reveal that Titan’s just playing mind games
Like, Shou and Hayato are noticing different body parts “fading” and even wonder about it, while none of that is in the dub so far, and what is from that last part is just Syrus noticing the fading, which leads to
“Think that could work on my waistline?”
GX Episode 6 - Progress Report
For all you patient souls. This last week’s been a bit hell since I’ve been getting used to my new M-F 8-4 job and still squeezing in some gym time and other things before getting home with only an hour to kill before getting decent sleep for the next day, so time to work on 6 has been a bit sparse. Especially after trying to handle the credits last week lol. I prepped the script last night and started editing tonight; currently up to Titan’s direct attack here before Judai Mirror Forces it.
Also WHY ARE THESE STAT COUNTERS SO DAMN HUGE
FINALLY. FINISHED. TRANSLATING. THOSE CREDITS.

it only took about a week
Now to just QC it, and that’ll be that. May have quarter-assed it a bit by the end of those Korean names, but did a lot of cross-referencing between the Chinese dictionary and staff lists on ANN and on other Japanese sites that had these credits listed. Now, hopefully I’ll start timing episode 6 this weekend!

“I’ve spent about an hour almost two hours trying to figure this name…”
I don’t speak Chinese either but I looked it up by radical and it looks like this one to me: http://www.chinese-tools.com/tools/sinograms.html?q=%E6%85%9C
And that’s the one! Thanks for looking it up; I don’t think I managed to get any kind of results with that site, though lol. Though apparently, this other Chinese dictionary I’ve been using has a lot of info on the characters, including–and I just read about this on Wiki–their Japanese and Sino-Japanese sounds. WHICH WOULD’VE SAVED ME SO MUCH GRIEF HAD I LOOKED AT IT EARLIER >_> That makes it much easier to cross-reference their readings with the names of animators of stuff that ANIK’s been involved with.
Two more names to do now on the In-Betweens, then I’ll go back and check my work. Here’s hoping the other names from here on out are just Japanese…
I’ve spent about an hour almost two hours trying to figure this name out (廣帛悠) and I’ve still gotten nowhere AEFHDSLFHDSFKHKJ I CAN’T EVEN
Had to plug in that animator’s name (金 正九) into a Chinese dictionary and got one definition that had it as “Korean surname Kim”, which led to me looking up ANIK (the company)-involved anime, ctrl+f “kim” until I got something similar to the readings I got for the other characters and landed on Jung Gu Kim. Saw what they worked on, looked at an ep of Strawberry Panic! really quick and they were listed as Kim Jung Gu. That was in 2006; looked at something around GX 6’s time, and Aishiteruze Baby was out in April of ‘04 (6 premiered that November). Checked it out, and lo’ and behold; 金 正九 came up in the credits!
So I’m putting it in as Jung Gu Kim. Though I wonder if the romanized Korean names later on are in Japanese name order or Western… Especially since I feel like I’ve run into Kim Jung Gu at some point already lol. Which means a bunch of consistency fixes might be incoming! Either way, that knocks out the Key Animation credits in GX 6. Now, for the In-Betweens… and MORE Japanese names!
MORE JAPANESE ANIMATOR NAMES THAT ANN HASN’T TRANSLATED

Also pretty sure a few are actually Chinese or Korean but even going off the readings I’m not getting much. D: [Fun fact: some of these worked on Love Hina and Naruto (the company’s called ANIK)]
Phew, actually managed to fix this little goof-up! Took only about an hour or so in Vegas haha.
So, on the left is the pan shot used for Judai’s hand originally; in the middle is my edit to replace the second Mirror Force with Fusion, and on the right is the dub’s fix. I took the image from the Wikia (the version used in 5D’s), resized it accordingly, applied a quick + chroma blur and dimmed the contrast on it so it blended in well. Also masked Judai’s thumb and Mirror Gate over it. Unfortunately, the image wasn’t of the best quality to make out where Mirror Gate ended and Mirror Force began as I masked, so I also grabbed an image of Mirror Gate, masked in the left side so it was on top of the Mirror Gate already in there so the card edge was more defined. Then I just had to redo the pan shot, keyframing it every 15 frames and crosschecking with the original pan until it stopped 106 frames in; then it was just a still for another 24. Kinda funny that the original pan also pans and then suddenly stops instead of it slowing down, but hey, makes it easier for me to make it look like it was there!
Good to see the dub fixed this, too. Either they got told what that was supposed to be, or they actually kept track of his cards (like I did just to make sure) and knew that Judai used Pot of Greed to draw Sparkman and Mirage of Nightmare and already had Fusion in his hand. Minus the time they gave Yugi and Arkana a Ra that kept shifting hands and other things they did in DM, I think they do a good job of at least fixing original card errors. But we’ll see how good as I go along here. XD
I’m working the new pan into the DVDRip now; I’ll be giving the hardsub a quick fix and get it reuploaded soon-ish.
Current benchmark: the END; it’s all done! Just giving it a quality check when I wake up tomorrow, and then it’s off to encoding it all. Should be up by late afternoon. :)
Also, shoutout to the new followers I’ve gotten here and there the last while. I don’t get to say “hi” much (usually because I forget) but there’s 400+ of you around, and I appreciate you guys sticking around!
should start planning on a 500-special thing sometime i guess
