So, much as I’ve stocked up on my Photoshop skills to this point, I’m having a bit of trouble trying to blank out this poster; content-aware doesn’t seem to be doing the job, at least through the low-skilled way I’m attempting to use it haha. I’d selected much of the Star Duel text area, but it’d still somehow throw in Manjoume and Gokaido… Also, the dub’s edit of this poster had their replacement blanking too blurred for some reason lol.
Would someone be willing to assist in getting this blanked? I’d really just need the whole Star Duel text area blanked along with the exclamation point on the right and kanji on the left caught up in the blur; if you’re able to replicate the background well, that’d be great. But if you’re able to blank out Manjoume’s and Gokaido’s names and fully color in their name boxes to redo them over where I stitched the frames together, that’d be much appreciated too! (I was thinking mirroring the non-blurred part of the boxes and moving them into place along the edge…)
I can handle the text translation after that’s taken care of. The best thing to do would be to edit it such that any of the blur’s not there wherever the text is (the blur on Manjoume and Gokaido can stay); when the thing’s done and I’m redoing the pan along the poster, I should be able to add the blur back in in Sony Vegas. Thanks in advance!
Once this poster’s finished, I think I can probably try to slap it into the other shots it comes up in during Chronos’s flashback via perspective Vanishing Point or other manipulation, but we’ll see when I get there, lol.
So, bit of an update, but I’ve pretty much managed to get the names blanked out and the boxes touched up to remove the blur going on there:
The issue remains cleaning off the Star Duel text nicely (I did kind of try repainting the background a little on the exclamation point, but I’m still not sure how to do the rest given the varying colors); would someone more Photoshop-savvy still be able to help there? Or even some tips on how to do it well if you’ve done something similar. 🙏🏽

Here’s something else I’m working on as I get ready to finalize Season 2!
I’ve always thought I might take a crack at translating these in the future, and now that I have some knowhow about editing, I thought I’d give it a shot. The caveat, though, is that it was looking impossible to get this sequence of cards flipping in the background totally textless; I was trying to overlay each of these clips between Seasons 2 and 4 in Sony Vegas and masking out as much blank space as possible, but doing that after getting maybe 20 of them in was a huge drain on CPU resources lol (what do you mean 360 frames x 30+ video tracks might do that). Also kinda complicated by the fact that some of the cards change some episodes into Season 2, or between Seasons. So, instead, I opted for just using a still shot and just masking in the Card of the Day as it flips into view; here’s a gif of how that looks:
The still I used was the first frame of the sequence; I think I might try to mask in some of the other cards or card backs so they’re not just stuck mid-flip, and maybe move the COTD so it’s flipping from that one card back just under it instead of in-between two, but I wanted to show this off and see what folks thought! Idea being this’ll be in the hardsubs, of course. I get it won’t have the same look as having the cards flipping, but I thought it might be cool to do. Does the English font (two from the Stone Serif group) look like a good replacement, too? I also spaced the text a bit closer together to make room for the subs at the bottom as Judai/whoever narrates (and thought this’d be good since sometimes not everything on the screen is explained).
Alright, went back and threw in some other featured cards in a couple of the columns and moved the Tempester card down (also tweaked the text position some), so this is the final look:

(Note: video is like this because I originally planned to just show off the name shots, but YT and copyright i swear to– I even had to mirror some of the shots to try and skirt that lol, so I switched which side gets flipped and mainly only on the recap shots)
So, as I mentioned in thesetwo posts, I’ve been at work the past 3-5 weeks revisiting 99%’s Season 2 opening video to finalize my Season 2 subs, and editing it such that not only could I fully translate the character names, but I could make a textless version of the different variations we never officially got textless versions of.
Out of curiosity, has anyone managed to transparently render these images of Judai, Manjoume, and the rest of the crew from the 99% opening? I’m working to redo how they zip across the screen as their names come up, which I’ve been doing by masking them out of the video in Sony Vegas and I managed to get Judai done well, but I’m noticing a bit of noise in the footage I have for the Manjoume clip that’s messing with how accurately I can cut Manjoume out in Vegas without losing too much detail or color bleeding from the cards on the edges–and those sharp black edges from Kenichi Hara would be nice to keep. Photoshop’s Magic Wand tool isn’t quite doing the job, either…
If it hasn’t been done but someone would be willing to help with that, it would be much appreciated; I’d be happy to credit you with a “Special Thanks” in the OP when I slap on the credit subs. :)
So, quick follow-up on this:
Since I didn’t get much here, I’ve managed to at least figure out a process to do these; I’m masking out each of them as accurately as I can, supplementing it with the original footage masked above and below where the names pop up to restore some of those details/make the edges of my masks less noticeable. I also masked out Osiris-Red!Shou from the 53-56 version of the opening (before he duels Ran and moves up to Ra Yellow), after splicing a few different frames of him and touching it up in Photoshop. Here’s how they look in action so far:
If anyone is actually able to work some magic and render them out of these shots, that’d probably be awesome, and I’m sure the fandom would like them; worst-case, I could go back and fully mask them out for folks, though it wouldn’t be perfect since it’d likely lose out on some of the edges in Sony Vegas…
99% - GX Season 2 Opening: “Ambitions->Dashed Hopes” ft. Earlier Napoleon (WIP)
poor chronos
Alright, finally finished this scene up! After *checks notes* nearly three weeks of editing, lol. So, following up on the first WIP with Pharaoh crawling onto Chronos’s desk, here’s the next scene I’ve managed to get textless and then translated–and it was a doozy.
So, I’ve been at work the past three weeks since finishing my 5D’s Dub-Uncut Ep. 24 getting ready to finalize my Season 2 subs, which means it’s time to revisit 99%’s Season 2 opening video for translating! In my first go-around, while I did use the textless video to fully translate the credits and lyrics, I opted to use subtitles on Chronos’s placard here and the names that pop up for each character since I wasn’t all that versed in Photoshop and was limited with Sony Vegas. Now, about (…however long ago I first subbed episode 53 how has it been that long) and quite a few animation fixes later, I thought my particular set of skills has expanded quite a bit–enough so to try and realize what I’d wanted to do back then but couldn’t by fully translating the OP, names included!
So, in addition to finalizing my subs for GX 51 and 52 and posting those up for download over on NAC, I’ve also begun to add the textless and subbed versions of the OP/EDs I’ve used thus far into the list I maintain there; you’ll find the unique versions of OP1 and ED1 that I use for my subs there joining the Endless Dream montage I created to close out GX when I first finished Season 4. If you were wanting them as I posted about the editing going on to work them into the project (what feels like years ago), feel free to give ‘em a download~
I’ll add the S2 OP/EDs there once Season 2′s done (or I may choose to add the textless OPs as I get through each arc lol).
If Judai and Shou are having a simulated duel here for their final exam, why are Burstlady and Rampart Gunner not on the same Monster Zone layer as Clayman? I’d assume where Clayman is is Shou’s field, but then in the next shot, there’s an empty row in front of his where he already has two others along with the Drillroid he summons…
I wonder if 4Kids was also confused like I was and decided to leave it alone just ‘cause, lol.
