WOOOOT finally finished finalizing/editing GX 42! So many animation fixes to do and the whooshing foreground not helping in a few of them… #BMGLove Whipping up a little video to show off the edits since it’s been so long; should have the whole thing up this weekend!
GX 42 (WIP): A Hair-Raising Duel
Animation error! In this shot, after Judai summons Flame Wingman and the crowd reacts to BMG reassuring them she’ll be fine (judai how dare you not hold back), the animation team forgot to give Judai his hair highlights. Shot #2 is my attempt at recreating them, using other frames from the episode as reference. If someone can make it look better than that and consistent through the other frames, a little help would be great, lol.

I’d expect that from the dub leaving a dubified card a frame too long, not the Japanese version 😂
An animation gaffe I just noticed…

This shot happens just after BlaMagi Girl hits Judai with her Valkyria’s Double Magic Illusion attacks, and note Chronos in this shot with the BMG headband.

This shot happens a few minutes later, once Judai realizes the pinch he’s in with the Valkyria Lock, and poof, the headband’s gone! But wait…

When Judai sets two cards and ends his turn and BMG’s cheered on, it’s back! And stays on when he’s shown for the rest of the episode lol.
I’m probably overthinking a simple gag, but lol consistency tho

“Fine, don’t listen to me… 🤷♂️”

Not quite sure why I called it a green foxtail all those years ago…
(EDIT: Seems I was being literal; he says
猫じゃらし (ねこじゃらし/nekojarashi), which has “green foxtail” as its primary meaning, but its secondary meaning is “cat teaser (cat toy); kitty teaser” lol. #themoreyouknow)

Why did 4Kids think Cyber Blader was a Trap Card, exactly? 😂🤦♂️
GX 41/42 WIP: Let’s Cosplay Duel Monsters!
A new poster translation! This shot shows up in the preview for 42 in episode 41, so I’m translating it now to include it. The top red line literally translates to “Red’s Specialty” but I thought “Only at Red” would convey that better on an event poster made by Hayato. Also tried to recreate the E overlapping the D in “RED,” which I hope works well lol. Obviously tried to recreate the bottom text using Comic Sans MS.
Don’t mind Hayato and Shou’s cut hair here; the way the shot plays out, they slowly move their heads over the poster, and I wanted to get the best frame with the full bottom bubble, lol. When editing, I’ll be masking in their hair as it all moves over the poster.
What do we think? Blends in well, I hope!
@enbynoctis said: erasing a few pixels from the tail of the p might help the overlapping p/n problem?
Well, I tried but it was cutting the tail off so sharp that I thought it ruined the pixels that rounded it out, lol (I did try gaussian-blurring the edges, but it barely did much). But I did just move both lines a little to separate them a bit more?

GX 40 WIP: You Gotta Draw Your Cards Right!
I’m alive! Finalizing my GX subs is still alive! And with it comes picking up on some animation errors that I thought I’d take a crack at fixing! As I was going through episode 40 (which is finished, btw–expect an upload by this weekend!), I noticed that for these two scenes–the first as Sparkman attacks post-Magic Jammer, and #2 just before Judai sets a card to end this turn–they actually drew Judai’s card hand backwards; he holds his cards such that the cards’ faces face him, so they’re supposed to be “inside” his fingers. But for some reason, they decided to draw the card backs in that position, which is… odd.
So, since Judai’s hand at this point had Invincible Hero, E-Hero Clayman, and O - Oversoul, I prepped proxies for Invincible Hero and Oversoul (and as a perfectionist, I wanted to use Oversoul’s first anime artwork, so I took a good frame and cut it out before brightening it to work with the default-light template) and slapped them over the card backs as Judai “shrunk” in the first scene, and as he swung his hand around in scene #2. In #1, I also had to take the last frame he moves in and keyframe it with the slow zoom-out as Sparkman eventually swung across the screen, masking his thicc thighs over the cards for the first few frames. In scene #2, they somehow also gave him four cards?? But these scenes are both during the same turn, so… I tried to fix that as well by editing in the cards as though he was originally holding three, masking his leg and jacket in as the cards swing past them. Also, since he’d be holding the cards “inside” his fingers, only his thumb should be seen over them; his other fingers should be holding up the cards behind them.
Shouldn’t be too noticeable in action since it’s only a few frames of movement (especially in scene #2), but hey, the dub didn’t bother acknowledging this, so I thought I’d take my usual crack at it. :D
GX 39: That’s Not How This Works, Crunchyroll
So I’ve spent the last two days working to reencode 36 because I wanted to make the 37 preview consistent with how I used “Amazoness Death Arena” in 37 proper instead of “Death Ring” for “shitoujou,” but then Shou goes and uses “Death Ring” in plain English, so now I have to reencode 37 for consistency before I post them both on NAC, and if this doesn’t show you my love for consistency…
Just to crowdsource a grammar tip: is it correct to use quote marks around a name when used with “man/woman”?? ie, “That ‘Tanya’ woman” vs “That Tanya woman”
posted this on Twitter but no replies so let’s try here
GX 35: A Triple Threat (WIP)
aka ojamas quit making my life more of a mess but jk i love youSo, question, folks: which subbing method looks nicer to you here? I’d prefer #2, since I like to avoid having three sub lines in one scene, but then since I’d add the extra “!” to indicate there’s an extra speaker, having “… …” or “……” would look awkward in a line like:
–Big Bro Manjoume…
–Big Bro Manjoume… …vs
–Big Bro Manjoume…
–Big Bro Manjoume……I’d have to use #2 here because Manjoume then speaks over them as he activates Thunder Crash, but… 😑

#the space between the ellipses definitely looks odd #i prefer without the space

The unspaced ellipses definitely looks better.
Thanks for the feedback, you two. I realized my initial post might’ve been a bit confusing though; consistency nut as I am, I wanted to see if, after sticking to #2 with double exclamations as Manjoume speaks over them like this…

…if it’d look odd to have double ellipses in a later case where there happen to be four people speaking on-screen like the example I gave. So it’d look like this, going with no spaces:

Thought about it, and I don’t think there’ll be a situation like that, so this may have been a moot question, lol. with the ojamas i can only hope But hey, thought I’d see what people would think.
Should have 35 posted up by tomorrow morning~
